Do you know of anyone who uses the truth to deceive (欺骗) When someone tells you something that is true, but leaves out important information that should be included, he can give you a false picture.
For example, someone might say, “I just won a hundred dollars on the lottery (彩票). It was great. I took that dollar ticket back to the store and turned it in for one hundred dollars!”
This guy is a winner, right Maybe, maybe not. We then discover that he bought $ 200 worth of tickets, and only one was a winner. He’s really a big loser!
He didn’t say anything that was false, but he left out important information on purpose. That’s called a half-truth.
Half- truths are not technically lies, but they are just as dishonest.
Some officers often use this trick. Let’s say that during Governor Smith’s last term, her state lost one million jobs and gained three million jobs. Then she tries another term. One of the opponents says, “During Governor Smith’s term, the state lost one million jobs! “That’s true. However, an honest statement would have been, “During Governor Smith’s term, the state had a net gain of two million jobs.”
Advertisers will sometimes use half-truths. It’s against the law to make false statements so they try to mislead you with the truth. An advertisement might say, “Nine out of ten doctors advised their patients to take Yucky Pills to cure toothache. “ It fails to mention that they only asked ten doctors and nine of them work for the Yucky Company.
This kind of thing happens too often. It’s a sad fact of life: Lies are lies, and sometimes the truth can lie as well.
41. We may infer that the writer believes people should __________.
A. not trust the Yucky Company B. make use of half-truths
C. buy lottery tickets if possible D. be careful about what they are told
42. Which of the following is true according to the passage
A. Using half- truths is against the law.
B. Technically, half- truths are in fact lies.
C. Governor Smith did a good job during her last term.
D. Yucky Pills is a very good medicine for toothache.
43. How many examples does the writer give to show how the truth is used to deceive
A. One B. Two C. Three D. Four
44. What does the underlined word mean in para 5 mean
A. a person who supports her B. a person who fights against her
C. a person who argues with her D. a person who doubts her
45. Which of the following best expresses the main idea of the passage
A. Sometimes the truth can lie.
B. He’s really a big loser!
C. Advertisers will sometimes use half-truth.
D. It’s against the law to make false statements.

Doctors say anger can be a very harmful emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possible cancer.
46 Some people express anger openly in a calm way. Others burst with anger, and scream and yell. But other people keep their anger inside. They can not or will not express it. This is called repressing (克制) anger.
For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person’s health than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain releases the same hormones (荷尔蒙). They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etc. 47 Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger strongly may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.
48 They say the first step is to agree to the truth that you are angry and to realize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If so, they say, “ 49 Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly. “
Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has made you angry. 50
A. Do not express your anger while angry.
B. Anger may cause you a cancer.
C. In general, the person feels excited and ready to act.
D. They said that laughter is much healthier than anger.
E. Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger.
F. Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time.
G. Expressing anger violently is more harmful than repressing it.
