Johannes Gutenberg Job: InventorBorn: 1398 in Mainz GermanyDied: February 3, 1468 in Mainz, GermanyBest known for: Introduced movable type and the printing press(活字印刷机)to Europe
Johannes Gutenberg introduced the idea of movable type and the printing press to Europe. While this may not sound like a big deal at first, the printing press is often considered as the most important invention in modern times. Think about how important information is today. Without books and computers, you wouldn’t be able to learn, to pass on information, or to share scientific discoveries.
Before Gutenberg introduced the printing press, it was quite difficult to make a book in Europe. It wasn’t that hard to write a letter to one person by hand, but to thousands of books for many people to read was nearly impossible. Without the printing press we wouldn’t have had the Scientific Revolution(科学革命)or the Renaissance(文艺复兴). Our world would be very different.
Gutenberg took some existing technologies and some of his own inventions to come up with the printing press in the year 1450. One key idea he came up with was movable type. Rather than use wooden books to press ink onto paper, Gutenberg used movable metal pieces to quickly create pages.
Gutenberg introduced his new idea all the way through the printing process enabling pages to be printed much more rapidly. His presses could print 1000 pages per day versus (与……相比) only 40-50 pages with the old method. Each of us has dreams and goals for our future. What makes us study and make progress each day is closely connected with our personal dream and goal.
But why do you have dreams and goals, you still end up with nothing What separates successful people from the dreamers is their persistent (锲而不舍的) action. When you learn your lessons in school, you must work hard and not give up. You will often find some of your lessons very hard. Try and keep trying, and you’ll be sure to successfully deal with any difficulty you meet with. If we have a hard lesson today, let us try our best to learn it well and then we shall be prepared for a harder one tomorrow.
This is the famous formula (公式) for success:
Dream > Believe > Achieve
Most people have what they want (Dream) and think they can realize their dreams (Believe). And then they do nothing. They just imagine their dreams can come true. When they get tired waiting and lose a lot, they get bored. They say angrily how terrible their life is.
I personally believe that if you really want to achieve your dreams and goals in life, you have to add one thing to your success formula:
Dream > Believe > Act > Achieve
For me, act is the most important thing for success and that’s to Take Persistent Action (Act). If you say, “I can’t do it” and give up, you can never do anything valuable. However, “I’ll try” creates wonders. Let’s remember that there will be obstacles in our life. We must face them bravely and solve them. Success is not something that falls down from the sky. Most successful people made their dreams come true because of their persistent action.
Please remember: Action is the bridge that connects our dreams and goals to reality.
36. What should you do when you find your lessons very hard
A. Ask people for help. B. Try and keep trying.
C. Get ready to create wonders. D. Prepare for a harder one.
37. Which does the writer add to the famous formula
A. Act. B. Achieve. C. Connect. D. Create.
38. What does the underlined word “obstacles” mean

39. Why does the writer use the formula “Dream > Believe > Act > Achieve”

C. To show what his goals are. D. To compare it with a bridge.
40. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage

Our English Week
Last week, there was an English Week in our school. In this week, a book show was held in order to encourage us students to read more books and learn more cultures from different countries. Besides, there was a speech competition, where students were requested to speak loudly in public and keep their voice clear and confident. In addition, the singer competition impressed us most because the songs are wonderful and the singers sang very well.
Last but not least, students also enjoyed the food show very much, which made us taste a
lot of tasty food from all over the world.
As far as I am concerned, it's meaningful to hold such an interesting activity. In this way,
students can not only get relaxed but also broaden our horizons and improve ourselves.

This was a great improvement and allowed books to be used by the middle class for the first time in the history of Europe. Knowledge and education spread throughout the continent like never before.

A. Dangers. B. Imaginations. C. Wonders. D. Difficulties.
39. Why does the writer use the formula “Dream > Believe > Act > Achieve”
A. To support his idea. B. To ask readers to explain it.
C. To show what his goals are. D. To compare it with a bridge.
40. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage
A. Doing Something Valuable B. Studying Hard and Making Progress
C. Realizing Dreams with Persistent Action D. Separating Successful People from Dreams
D
Inventions change how we live, work, play and think about what’s possible. Every year, TIME magazine lists (列出) the 100 best inventions based on their creativity (创造性) and impact (影响) on our lives. What did the magazine choose in 2021 Let’s take a look.

Sweet idea
Honey is produced by bees. But today’s beekeeping business (养蜂业) is not good for these hard-working
insects. Bee farmers may kill them after harvesting (收获) honey because it’s cheaper than feeding the bees through the winter. To save bees, US company MeliBio has found a way to make the world’s first bee-free honey. They used synthetic biology (合成生物学) to create honey directly from plants. This kind of honey tastes just like the real one, and it is healthy, too.
