Some think that Huang Qiaoyan is like the German Brothers Grimm. That is because the middle school teacher in Guangdong Province’s Dongguan has compiled(汇编) more than 200 Chinese fairy tales(神话故事) over the past ten years. Her love of these Chinese stories drove her to finish this work.
The idea came to her when she was not satisfied(满意) with a book of Chinese folk stories she borrowed from the library many years ago. “The stories of the book were dry. They were far from interesting,” she said.
Her husband encouraged her to compile interesting fairy tales for their child and all Chinese children. After her husband passed away a few years ago, she decided to complete this work.
It was very difficult for Huang to find materials(材料).
“I read all kinds of texts and took notes. I wrote down the most wonderful parts of different versions(版本), felt them with my heart and tried to put the pieces together. The stories were completed this way. My son liked them very much. I told them to other children. They also enjoyed them,” she said.
Huang wrote almost all of the story of Cang Jie Creates Chinese Characters because she didn’t like the materials she had. She could only find one version of the tale of the Dragon Well and Water Fairy. She kept retelling the story until it became easy to understand. After that, she wrote it down in her own words.
She loved the old words the Tang Dynasty writer Li Zhaowei used in Liu Yi Delivers A Letter. But the ancient Chinese is difficult for children. She thought about it for a long time and decided to keep this story. Then she translated(翻译) and rewrote it.
Huang has collected over 10,000 stories and chose about 300 of the best known that are easy and educational for children. She won the 2009 Bing Xin Children’s Literature Award for a fairy tale she created.
Time is Huang’s greatest challenge today. As a Chinese teacher, her teaching schedule is often full. But she still continues to rewrite 400 fairy tales. “I love those stories. The more I read and write and put my heart into them, the more deeply I feel about their importance,” she said.
29Why did Miss Huang want to create a book about Chinese fairy tales
A. Because her husband wanted her to be a famous fairy tale writer.
B. Because she thought other books were not good enough.
C. Because her child was interested in her stories very much.
D. Because her students wanted to read some wonderful stories.
30 How did Huang finish the story Dragon Well and Water Fairy
A. She found a version, retold the story and then wrote it down in her own words.
B. She wrote almost all of the story in her own words after reading the text.
C. She found different versions, chose the most interesting one and wrote it down.
D. She kept the old words and translated the story with easy words.
31.The book Miss Huang created is _______.
A. famous and easy B. useful and strange
C. difficult and educational D. interesting and educational
32. Which of the following is true according to the passage
A. German Brothers Grimm’s book is not easy for children to read.

A long time ago there was a king called Minos. He controlled the island of Crete. And he also had a horrible monster called the Minotaur. The Minotaur lived at the centre of a very large maze(迷宫). It had the body of a man but the head of a bull, and it liked eating children.
Minos was a bad king. When he was bored, he would attack his neighbour island called Athens. To stop the fights, King Aegeus of Athens promised King Minos to send seven boys and seven girls to his monster the Minotaur every nine years.
It was time again to send the children to Crete. Theseus, the son of King Aegeus, could not stand this, and decided to go as the seventh boy and kill the Minotaur. He promised his father that if he was successful, he would use white sails(船帆) instead of the black ones to show he was alive.
When arriving in Crete, Theseus met King Minos’ daughter called Ariadne. She fell sorry about him and wanted to help him. So when the soldiers took the children to the Minotaur, Ariadne gave Theseus a ball of string and a knife. Theseus left a line of string behind him when he entered the large maze. After he killed the monster, he followed the string and got out of the palace. Ariadne was waiting outside. They quickly ran away together before Minos could catch them.
However, on the journey home, Theseus was very excited and he forgot to change the colour of the sails. As soon as King Aegeus saw the black sails, he was so sad and jumped into the sea. Since then, that sea has been called the Aegean Sea(爱琴海) to remember King Aegeus.

36.D 推理判断。前文提及如果Theseus 杀死怪物,回来时就挂白帆,表示他还活着。但是他忘了更改成白帆。所以国王Aegeus看到黑帆时以为Theseus死了,伤心跳海自杀了。
D
In the 13th century, Marco Polo, the world known Italian traveler, saw many wonderful things in China. One of the things he discovered was money made of paper. People in the West did not have such kind of money until the 15th century. However, the Chinese began to use it in the 7th century
Paper was invented by a Chinese man called Cai Lun almost 2,000 years ago. But it was not made in Europe until the year 1, 100. Four hundred years later, a German discovered that he could make the best paper from trees. After that countries rich in forests, such as Canada, Sweden, America, Finland became the most important ones in paper making.
Paper can be used in many ways. The common uses include newspapers, magazines and books. But do you know that paper can be used for keeping warm In Finland, the farmers wear paper boots to keep their feet warm in the snow. And even houses can be insulated from heat or cold with paper.
However, we have to understand that paper still comes from trees now. If we keep on wasting so much paper, there will not be any trees left on the earth some day in the near future. Every day people throw away about 2, 800 tons of paper in our city. It takes 17 trees to make one ton of paper. This means that we are cutting down nearly 48, 000 trees every day. The fact is that it takes more than 10 years for a tree to grow.
So we must start saving paper right now. We can use both sides of every piece of paper. We can make useful things out of used paper. We can use china cups instead of paper ones. When shopping, we can use fewer paper bags and reuse them if we have some.
In short, we should keep a balance between using paper and protecting trees, and do it now before it is too late.
37.When did the Chinese begin to use paper money
A.In the 5th century. B.In the 6th century
C.In the 7th century. D.In the 15th century.
38.Why did Canada become an important country in paper making
A.Because it was a large country.
B.Because it had lots of forests.
C.Because it was a very rich country.
D.Because the inventor was from Canada.
39.In Finland, paper is used for________.
A.making bed B.reducing waste
