5. Encourage students to do sports very often.
Teaching contents:1.New words: rope/ sit-up /push-up/ race/ result /none /twentieth
2.Phrases: one by one/fall off/ jump rope/ the result of/ win first place/ come in twentieth/ two seconds slower
Teaching key points: Practice the usage about comparative and superlative of adjectives and adverbs .
Teaching difficult points: Retell the thing that happened.

Teaching procedures:
Step1 Lead in
Invite three students to compete in a high jump event, to review comparative and superlative of adverbs , and to lead in the topic-classroom Olympics.
Purpose: Arouse their interests in learning this lesson. And get a general understanding of the topic.
Step2 Show some pictures for students to learn the following phrases:
jump rope /long jump /sit-up /push-up
Activity: Ask individual students to act the events, then discuss the following questions in pairs and finish Ex.3. (1) How many times can you jump in one minute (2) How far can you jump (3) How many sit-ups or push-ups can you do in one minute Make sentences following the examples: Lisa jumped farther than Jenny in the long jump. Danny was the fastest in the “Jump over the Dinosaur” event. Help them pay attention to comparative and superlative.
Step3 Listening
listen to the tape and fill in the table.
(1) Jenny’s class have _____ different events.
(2) Sandra won ______ place in the jump rope event.
(3) Lisa jumped very far, but Kim jumped ______ .
(4) Jenny’s favorite event was ______ .
Purpose: understanding the contents by listening.
Step4 Reading
T: Now, Let’s open the book and find out what Danny’s event was like. Get the Ss to read the passage and answer the following questions:
(1) What did Danny call his event
(2) What things did they need to prepare for Danny’s event
(3) Who was the champion of the “ Jump over the Dinosaur ” event
(4) How did Brian feel Why What was Brian’s result
(5) What did Jenny think of Brian After answering, make the students listen and repeat.
Purpose: Make the students get the detailed information of this lesson. It’s the main way to train their reading ability.
Step5 Retell the text by filling the blanks.

Step6 Activity:
Hold our own classroom Olympics. Make the students work in groups of three. Each group chooses an event to compete. Then share the result to the class(use comparative and superlative forms of adjectives and adverbs ).
Possible events: push-ups sit-ups high jump long jump
hand wrestling
possible result: We competed in high jump event.
Student1 jumped high.
Student2 jumped higher.
Student3 jumped the highest.
Purpose: Practice using the important grammar, based on the topic of classroom Olympics.
