As the taxi leaves, my father stands at the living room window looking out, watching me move off into the darkness, at 4:30 a. m. His grey hair is untidy from sleeping.
Moments ago, he got up to carry my bag for me and went into the cold open air.
He thanked me for a daughter’s cooking and for having traveled so far to spend the holiday with him. I told him that I worried about he would feel lonely again in the empty house.
“I have my plans,” he said, in the moments before I walked out the door.
When I arrived 10 days ago, I felt it was quiet and lifeless in the house. Then my brothers and I came and filled the rooms. But, now, they’re gone, I am the last to leave.
As the taxi began to move, I watched the lights go off, but my father didn’t leave. Even though he couldn’t see me in the dark, he stood by the window watching, beside the tree. It was a fresh tree. He buys one every year for the new year.
The life is hard for my father: my mother died years ago, and now his children are far from home, our selfish choices taking us from one end of the country to the other, the life of the tree, cut for Christmas, is short; my father’s is long and strong. But both of them are tall and straight.

Mom was cooking in the kitchen. She could hear the girls arguing in the living room. It was the third time this week that the sisters had been arguing over nothing. A few minutes later, Maria rushed into her bedroom angrily and closed the door heavily.
“Come to the kitchen, young lady,” Mom firmly (坚定地) said to Maria in her best mother tone (语气) of voice.
Maria walked into the kitchen and shouted, “I can’t stand living with Felicia another minute. I don’t ever want to talk to her again!”
Mom called out, “Felicia, come to the kitchen right now.”
While Felicia was on her way, Mom put two chairs opposite each other but very close together.
“Maria, you sit here and Felicia you sit there.” The girls sat face to face, with their knees almost touching. “Now you look each other in the eye for five minutes,” Mom ordered.
At first the girls moved their bodies from side to side. Mom said firmly, “You must stay staring at each other for five minutes. Each minute you don’t make eye contact (眼神交流) means another minute sitting in the chairs. ” They both wanted out, so they had to sit there and look at each other.
Felicia looked at Maria’s pouting (噘嘴的) face while Maria looked at Felicia’s angry face. They each thought the other one looked ridiculous (可笑的). In fact, they were being ridiculous to fight and be mad at each other over nothing.

C (2020年随州中考)
Anger (愤怒) often makes us uncomfortable. Seeing your child’s anger can be especially uncomfortable. In order to relieve (缓解) this feeling, parents often encourage children to “stop crying” and say things like “It’s nothing to cry about.” It’s moments like those that plant the seeds (种子) of unhealthy anger. The “stop crying” parents are just doing what they were taught by their own parents, who were probably taught that by their parents on and on. However, we should learn how to create healthy anger in our kids.
If a child never sees his or her parents express anger, he or she should never express anger, either. But if parents always express their anger loudly, their child may start to think of anger as something that is always frightening.
The first thing you can do to create healthy anger in your children is to practice creating healthy anger in yourself. Once you’re better at experiencing anger and expressing it in a healthy way, you’ll be able to set a good example for your kids.
Stopping kids from expressing their feelings is wrong. You may feel bad when you believe you are wrong. When children express their feelings and are told that it’s nothing to cry about, they come to know that they themselves are bad.
We need to raise them in an environment where it’s safe to express feelings. Once you feel more comfortable with your own anger, you can teach your children why anger is a helpful feeling. When your kids express anger, help them examine what it is that has made them angry. Why did it make them angry How did it do that Then, you can teach them that those feelings are never wrong and our expressions of feelings are in our control.
Anger is natural and normal, and it can be experienced and expressed in a healthy way.

Many kids do housework such as doing the dishes, making the bed, and folding the clothes. 46 Paying kids for housework is one of the most popular topics, especially at a time when everyone is more careful about money. Some parents think since adults are paid to do their jobs, we should pay kids for everyday housework.

Other people believe that getting a reward encourages kids to do housework. 49 There are also apps(程序) that gives kids points. The points can be exchanged into gifts in the real world. Chris Bergman says, “ 50 And kids need rewards to help encourage them.”

As we all know, family life plays an important part in our daily life. Different people have different family life.
Jack says his family members always get on well with each other. And their family life is great and full of happy things. They often go shopping together or have a walk in a park.
But Mary says she isn’t happy with her family life because her parents are hard on her. And they have no outdoor activities. What’s more, their family members can’t understand each other.
In my opinion, family members should understand each other. They should often talk about their problems and do some things together.

Maria walked into the kitchen and shouted, “I can’t stand living with Felicia another minute. I don’t ever want to talk to her again!”

While Felicia was on her way, Mom put two chairs opposite each other but very close together.
