A
Experts believe that there are more than 8 million restaurants in the world today. So it might surprise you to learn that restaurants, as we know them, have only existed for a few centuries. Before 1765, there were no restaurants. That is, there were no places that provided the restaurant experience. There was nowhere in which a waiter brought you food and drink that you picked from a menu. In fact, there were no menus anywhere.
There were eating places travellers could go to centuries before that. The countryside was full of inns that would serve food. And there were taverns where one could get drinks. The rich could also eat special meals prepared by private cooks. But none of them could be called a “restaurant”.
A man called Boulanger changed that. In 1765, he opened a place in Paris that sold soups (汤). On his sign he used the word “restaurant” to describe what he was selling. At that time, soups were considered something that could help “restore” (恢复) your health—in French the word “restore” is “restaurer”—so he called the soups “restaurants”. Soon, people started buying Boulanger’s soups even when they were not ill. And over time, people began to use the word “restaurant” to refer to a place selling soup rather than the soup itself. More “restaurants” opened in France, and people began to buy soups more often.
Later, restaurants in Paris began to serve other food besides soup. In the 1790s, menus started to appear. By the mid-1800s, there were many types of restaurants throughout the world. The United States offered coffee shops. Tea houses became popular throughout China. Paris created beautiful restaurants for the rich. The British began to copy the French, and the restaurant idea spread throughout the British Empire.
Today cities are filled with all types of restaurants. Diners have millions of options from which to choose.

When things get wildly busy in the morning, some people don’t have breakfast in order to save time. But that may be a big mistake for students. Whether at home, on the way to school or at school, eating something healthy for breakfast may help a student get better grades.
Researchers looked at 5,000 9- to 11-year-olds from more than 100 primary schools in the UK. They looked at what the students ate for breakfast and then their grades 6 to 18 months later. They found that the students who ate a healthy breakfast were twice as likely to perform above average in educational activities. The researchers also found that unhealthy breakfasts—such as potato chips or a donut did not appear helpful to educational performance. In 2013, an organization in the United States, also looked at possible connections between breakfast and student success in school. They found that on average students who ate breakfast provided by their school attended 1. 5 more days of school per year. These students also scored 17. 5 percent higher on standardized math tests.
Health experts suggest that the best breakfast is a mix of complex carbohydrates (碳水化合物), protein and fat. This gives your body the energy it needs to think clearly and to remember what it learns. Wholegrain bread is an example. The report explains that the brain needs glucose (葡萄糖) to work well. Simply eating a breakfast rich in carbohydrates may make a student tired. So, adding protein helps to prevent fatigue. Having a protein such as milk, yogurt, eggs or meat can help students to feel full longer. Oatmeal (燕麦片), the researchers say, is an example of a breakfast that is rich in fiber and protein. It releases energy slowly because it is a wholegrain food. So, students will feel full longer.
Health experts also suggest not eating too much for breakfast. This can also make a person feel tired and unable to think clearly. They say eating between 350 and 500 calories in the morning is a good amount of energy to start the day.
31. What's the main purpose of Paragraph 1

A.Wholegrain bread and some juice.
B.A donut, an egg and a glass of milk.
C.An egg, a glass of milk and some potato chips.

So you thought the hamburger was the world’s most popular fast food After all, McDonald’s Golden Arches span the globe. But no, there is another truly universal fast food, the ultimate fast food. It’s easy to make, easy to serve, much more varied than the hamburger, can be eaten with the hands, and it’s delivered to your front door or served in fancy restaurants. It’s been one of America’s favorite foods for over 50 years. It is, of course, the pizza.
It’s kind of silly to talk about the moment when pizza was “invented”. It changed over the years, but one thing’s for certain—it’s been around for a very long time. The idea of using pieces of flat, round bread as plates came from the Greeks. They called them ‘plakuntos’ and ate them with various simple toppings such as oil, garlic, onions, and herbs. The Romans enjoyed eating something similar and called it ‘picea’. By about 1000 AD in the city of Naples, ‘picea’ had become ‘pizza’ and people were experimenting with more toppings: cheese, ham, anchovies, and finally the tomato, brought to Italy from Mexico and Peru in the sixteenth century. Naples became the pizza capital of the world. In 1889, King UmbertoⅠ and Queen Margherita heard about pizza and asked to try it. They invited pizza maker, Raffele Esposito, to make it for them. He decided to make the pizza like the Italian flag, so he used red tomatoes, white mozzarella cheese, and green basil leaves. The Queen loved it and the new pizza was named ‘Pizza Margherita’ in her honour.
Pizza migrated to America with the Italians at the end of the nineteenth century. The first pizzeria in the United States was opened in 1905 at 53 Spring Street, New York City, by Gennaro Lombardi. But the popularity of pizza really exploded when American soldiers returned from Italy after World War Ⅱ and raved about ‘that great Italian dish’. Americans are now the greatest producers and consumers of pizza in the world.
36. Which is the correct order of the change of pizza
A. Plakuntos→pizza→picea B. Pizza→plakuntos→picea
C. Picea→Plakuntos→pizza D. Plakuntos →picea→pizza
37. Why are Mexico and Peru important in the development of pizza
A. Because pizza first became popular in these countries.
B. Because pizza was invented in these countries.
C. Because one topping was brought to Italy from these countries.
D. Because the people in these countries are the greatest consumers of pizza.
38. What do the Italian flag and a Pizza Margherita have in common
A. There is a picture of a Pizza Margherita on the flag.
B. They have the same colours.
C. Both of them represent Italy.
D. They are both popular in Italy.
39. When did pizza become really popular in the United States
A. After 1945. B. In 1889. C. In 1905. D. By1000AD
40. What is the best title for the passage
A. McDonald’s and Pizza. B. Global Pizza.
C. Pizza in the United States. D. How to Make Pizza.

Eating food is enjoyable, but cooking can be challenging. For those who don’t have basic cooking skills, or are too busy working or traveling, one thing can save them — instant noodles.
This year marks the 61st anniversary of the invention of instant noodles. Ever since they were created by Japanese businessman Momofuku Ando in 1958, instant noodles have been popular around the world. In China, the product has almost become a necessity for those who travel by train.
There are some fun facts about instant noodles: The total length of the noodles in one package is 51 meters. The first instant noodles were considered a luxury product. When they first came to Japanese supermarkets in 1958, they were 6 times the cost of fresh udon noodles. Japanese people even voted instant noodles as one of their best inventions of the 20th century.
For instant noodles, as well as many other “instant” foods, convenience is the key selling point. They are supposed to make our lives easier.
44 . For example, in wars, soldiers eat compressed biscuits and canned meat because they don’t need to cook these foods. And in the 1960s, frozen dinners of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables became popular in the US. This is because more women started working and had no time to cook.
In recent years, however, online meal-ordering services have brought challenge to instant foods. Uber Eats is a popular app of this kind in the United States. In China, we have Ele me,Dianping and Meituan. These services offer not only convenience, but also more choices and tastier food. According to the World Instant Noodle Association, instant noodle sales dropped by 17 percent in China as of 2016.
This might show that Chinese people are now more interested in having higher-quality diets and not just simply filling their bellies, experts say.

42.Which of the following is NOT the fun fact of instant noodles
A.The total length of the noodles in one package is 51 meters.
B.The usage of online-ordering services reduces the sales of instant noodles.
C.The first instant noodles were much more expensive than fresh udon noodles.
D.Japanese people even voted instant noodles as one of the best inventions of the 20th century.
43.If you need to help your parents order food online in Guangzhou, which app can’t you choose
A.Uber Eats B.Ele.me C.Meituan D.Dianping
44.Which sentence can be put in the beginning of the fifth paragraph
A.Food trend often reflects changes in society.
B.Different country has different kinds of instant food.
C.The development of instant food changes the society.
D.More and more people were interested in instant noodles.
45.What can we infer from the passage

根据后句“Everyday heroes are normal people who are working to make the world a better place.”

根据后句“Using an app developed by Lee's team, restaurants ___16__ how much leftover food they have each day.”
故选A。
故选A。
分析“Lee has shown that a ___24___ action can help people around us greatly.” 故选A。
根据后句“With more restaurants, who knows how much more we can do.”

A
Experts believe that there are more than 8 million restaurants in the world today.

A. To analyze why breakfast is ignored.
B. To lead in the main topic of the text.
C. To stress the effect of eating healthily.
D. To share a common mistake among students.

B.A donut, an egg and a glass of milk.
C.An egg, a glass of milk and some potato chips.

C
A. After 1945. B. In 1889. C. In 1905. D. By1000AD

A. McDonald’s and Pizza. B. Global Pizza.
