A
Different countries have different tipping customs. When you travel, you need to know how to tip in the country that you’re in; otherwise you’ll leave servers angry everywhere you go. Here are just a few guidelines to tipping around the world.
Brazil
There will always be a standard 10% service charge added to your bill, and you won’t necessarily have to tip. If you do feel like being generous, an extra 5-10% will really make your server very happy. Just remember to do this as skillfully as possible—Brazilians don’t make a big show of this.
Dubai
In Dubai it’s a rule for restaurants to charge 10% tip on all restaurant and bar bills. You can add a couple of dirhams(迪拉姆,货币单位) to this if you feel like it. Waiters are not paid very much in Dubai, so it is always very appreciated.
Germany
German bars and restaurants will include the tip as part of what you owe, but that’s not all you have to pay. It is a custom to round the bill up after that, usually to the euro. This can be anywhere from 5-10%. When it’s time to settle up, you won’t get a bill: your waiter tells you the total and then you tell them how much you want to pay, including your “tip”, and hand over the money.
Czech Republic
While locals in the Czech Republic don’t leave tips, that doesn’t mean you’re off the hook. Foreign tourists are definitely expected to leave some kind of tip for service—as long as you’re in a high tourist traffic area, like Prague for instance. The standard tip is 10%.
India
If you like the service, go ahead and tip your server 5-10%. You have to adjust that amount though, based on how big the meal you’re eating is. If the bill is for a small meal, and totals less than 300 rupees, tip the full 10%. If the bill is higher, tip towards the 5%.
21.In which country do customers have to tip at least 10% for the service
A. Dubai B. India
C. Germany D. Czech Republic
22.Which country has different tip cultures between citizens and foreigners
A. Dubai B. Germany
C. India D. Czech Republic
23.If your bill is 2000 rupees in India, it is proper for you to tip________ rupees.
A. 10 B. 80
C. 120 D. 200

Alvin Bamburg was deep in the woods when something caught his eye. As Bamburg approached, he found it was a broken balloon with a note:“Dear Santa, my name is Luna. I am four years old. I live in Liberal, Kansas. This year I have been nice. I would like candy, Frozen doll, dog. With love, Luna.”
Bamburg felt his heartbeat quickened. Ever since he was a child, he had dreamed of this. “Years ago,” he says, “classes at school released balloons with notes. I’ve always wanted to find one.” He believed this was his childhood wish coming true. And he knew he would make Luna’s wish come true too.
On January 2, 2021, Bamburg posted a photo of the balloon and the Christmas list on his Facebook page, asking for help locating the sender. At first, he wasn’t confident the strategy would work. But as he saw the number of people sharing his post increase by the hundreds, “My hope grew into expectations,” Bamburg says.
At around the same time, Leticia Flores, the mother of four-year-old Luna, had no idea that such an effort was underway. One day last December, Luna had an idea of sending letters to Santa by balloon. Flores helped her write the letters, put the notes into festive red balloons and took her outside to release the wishes.
One day in early January, Flores got a call from a friend, saying “Someone found Luna’s balloon.” “It’s unbelievable!” Flores says. She was more than touched when Bamburg drove 600 miles to send a dog and other gifts to them in April.
Bamburg was happy and decided to attend a Santa Claus training school, hoping to bring fun to more kids.
24. What did Alvin Bamburg’s dream of since childhood
A. Having some balloons sent to the sky.
B. Having his own wish realized by balloons.
C. Picking up a balloon with wishes on a note.
D. Making others’ wishes come true in person.
25. What do the underlined words “such an effort” in paragraph 4 mean
A. Sharing Luna’s wishes. B. Making a Christmas list.
C. Collecting likes for the post. D. Finding out where Luna lives.
26. Which of following best describes Alvin Bamburg
A. Confident. B. Responsible.
C. Caring. D. Creative.
27. What’s the text mainly about
A. A special New Year gift. B. Kindness from a stranger.
C. A balloon’s magic journey. D. The great function of Facebook.
C
Four years ago, more than 700 computer scientists competed in a contest to build an artificial intelligence (AI) that could pass an 8th-grade science exam. They all flunked. Even the most developed system couldn’t score higher than 60 points on the test. AI can’t match the language and logic (逻辑) skills that students are expected to have when they enter middle school.
Later, a system named Aristo was developed by the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence, a lab in the US. It recently passed an 8-grade science exam taken by many US students, the New York Times reported. It correctly answered more than 90% of the questions. Then it was given a 12th-grade exam and it scored more than 80 points.
Aristo was able to pass the exam because it can not only understand language but also use logical thinking to solve difficult problems. For example, it can understand what a forest fire is and how it could affect animals like rabbits. The Aristo system used Bert, a kind of technology developed by Google, to answer the questions. Bert has “read” thousands of Wikipedia articles and books. If it looks at a sentence with a missing word, it can correctly guess what the word is. With the help of Bert, Aristo has “read” a lot of science questions and answers. Over time, it was able to find logical patterns (模式) on its own.
Aristo’s success means that AI systems are getting better at understanding language and even respond to language. However, we can’t compare this technology to real human students and their logical ability, said Jingjing Liu, a Microsoft researcher, who has been working on similar technologies.
28. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “flunked” in the first paragraph
A. Failed. B. Passed. C. Missed. D. Improved.
29. Why was Aristo developed
A. To help students do well in exams.
B. To improve the logical skills of AI.
C. To help make school tests more scientific.
D. To show ATS ability to solve science problems.
30. What is the purpose of the third paragraph
A. To show what else Aristo can do.
B. To tell what Aristo can learn on its own.
C. To explain how Aristo learns to solve problems.
D. To introduce another achievement in technology.
31. What do Jingjing Liu’s words show
A. AI is not as developed as it might seem.
B. Humans can’t live without AI in the future.
C. AI will soon replace humans in many tasks.
D. Aristo’s logical ability still needs improving.
D
Tattoos (纹身) are becoming more and more common. But they are not a new thing. Scientists have found some frozen bodies from around 3,000 BC and their skin shows the marks of tattoos. For example, Otzi, the Iceman (the oldest body ever found), was discovered in the mountains of Austria. He had many different lines and crosses tattooed on his back and his knees.
The most common places to get tattoos are the tops of the arms for men and the bottoms of the backs for women. Any mark can be used but there are some common ideas. Some people like to get animals, like dragons, birds and tigers. Other people like to get something written in a foreign language, so Chinese and Japanese words are common in America and the UK. If you can’t read the language, make sure you get someone to check what they represent because the tattoo artist could write anything and you would never know.
It is a big decision to get a tattoo because they are very difficult to remove. It is possible with expensive laser surgery (激光手术) but this is very painful and amazingly expensive and the skin will never be perfect afterwards. You want to do a test, to see how you look with a tattoo, you can get a temporary tattoo which disappears after about a month. This kind is very popular in India, where people often have them for festivals.
In some countries, such as Japan and Korea, tattoos are still connected with law-breaking activities and it isn’t normal to see a tattoo in public. In many places of Europe and America, most people don’t care very much whether you have a tattoo or not, though there are some types of job where they don’t like tattoos. But some Presidents of the USA have had them.
32. What can we know about tattoos from the first paragraph
A. Some frozen bodies were 3,000 years old.
B. Tattoos appeared early in human history.
C. The Iceman was the first man to have tattoos.
D. People in the past liked different lines and crosses.
33. Why should we be careful when we get tattoos of languages
A. Because tattoos are hard to remove.
B. Because the places to get tattoos are limited.
C. Because the meanings of the foreign words are important.
D. Because the educational level of tattoo artists is unreliable.
34. Why are temporary tattoos getting popular
A. It is not difficult to remove them.
B. They help make people’s skin perfect.
C. People can have a laser surgery to get them.
D. They play an important role in some festivals.
35. What does the last paragraph tell us
A. It is impolite to show tattoos in public.
B. The Japanese are not allowed to get tattoos.
C. Presidents of the USA support people in getting tattoos.
D. Tattoos are accepted more easily in some Western countries.

“Were you Mark’s math teacher ” One day, an old man came to my office and asked. I nodded. “Mark talked about you a lot. I want to show you something,” he said, taking a wallet out of his pocket. “They found this on him when he was killed in the battle. We thought you might recognize it.”
Opening the wallet, he carefully removed two worn pieces of notebook paper that had obviously been tapped, folded and refolded many times. I knew without looking that the papers were the ones on which I had listed all the good things each of Mark’s classmates had said about him. And that happened 20 years ago.
Mark was in the third grade class I taught. All 34 of my students were dear to me, but Mark was one in a million. Very neat in appearance, he had that happy-to-be-alive attitude that made even his occasional misbehavior delightful.
Mark also talked without stopping. I tried to remind him again and again that talking without permission was not allowed. What impressed me so much, though, was the sincere response every time I had to correct him for misbehaving. “Thank you for correcting me, sister!” I didn’t know what to do with it at first but before long I became used to hearing it many times a day.
One morning my patience was running out when Mark talked once too often. I made a new teacher’s mistake. I looked at Mark and said, “If you say one more word, I am going to tape(用胶带粘) your mouth shut.”
It wasn’t ten seconds later when Chuck shouted, “Mark is talking again.” I hadn’t asked any of the students to help me watch Mark, but since I had stated the punishment in front of the class, I had to act on it.
Paragraph1:
I walked to my desk and took out a roll of tape.
___________________________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph2:
One day I decided to do something different when Mark talked again in class.

One possible version:
Paragraph 1 :
I walked to my desk and took out a roll of tape. Very deliberately, I proceeded to Mark’s desk, tore off two pieces of the tape and made a big X with them over his mouth. I then returned to the front of the room. As I glanced at Mark to see how he was doing, he winked at me. I started laughing. The entire class cheered as I walked back to Mark’s desk, removed the tape and shrugged my shoulders. His first words were, “Thank you for correcting me, sister.”
Paragraph 2 :
One day I decided to do something different when Mark talked again in class. I asked the other students to think of the good things they could say about Mark and write them down. Then I listed them on a separate piece of paper. The next day I gave it to Mark. “Really ” Before long I heard him whispering. The paper did work. Mark listened more and more carefully to my instruction from that day on. “Thank you so much for doing that,” the old man brought me back down to earth. “As you can see, Mark treasured it,” he added. That was when I finally cried.
【阅读A】21.A 22.D 23.C
根据文中Dubai(迪拜)部分的介绍“In Dubai it’s a rule for restaurants to charge 10% tip on all restaurant and bar bills. You can add a couple of dirhams to this if you feel like it.”
根据第五段第一、二句“While locals in the Czech Republic don’t leave tips, that doesn’t mean you’re off the hook. Foreign tourists are definitely expected to leave some kind of tip for service”可知捷克共和国的公民不给小费,但是外国人一定要给小费,在这个国家对于公民和外国游客的小费文化是不同的,故选D。
结合最后一段的总体介绍,一顿饭是否为“大餐”决定了小费比例,并根据“If the bill is for a small meal, and totals less than 300 rupees, tip the full 10%. If the bill is higher, tip towards the 5%.”
根据文章第一段“Ever since he was a child, he had dreamed of this. “Years ago,” he says, “classes at school released balloons with notes. I’ve always wanted to find one.” He believed this was his childhood wish coming true.(从孩提时代起,他就一直梦想着这个。“几年前,”他说,“学校的班级放飞了写有纸条的气球。我一直想找一个。”他相信这是他童年的愿望实现了)”可知,阿尔文·班伯格从小的梦想就是捡起一个写着愿望的气球。故选C。
25.词句猜测题。根据上文“On January 2, 2021, Bamburg posted a photo of the balloon and the Christmas list on his Facebook page, asking for help locating the sender. At first, he wasn’t confident the strategy would work. But as he saw the number of people sharing his post increase by the hundreds, “My hope grew into expectations,” Bamburg says.( 2021年1月2日,班伯格在他的Facebook主页上发布了一张气球和圣诞礼物清单的照片,请求帮助找到发送者。起初,他对这一策略能否奏效没有信心。但当他看到分享他的帖子的人数增加到数百人时,“我的希望变成了期望,”班伯格说)”和“At around the same time(大约在同一时间)”可知,4岁的卢娜的母亲莱蒂西亚·弗洛雷斯根本不知道正在进行寻找发送者这样的努力。由此可知,划线词组such an effort指的是“找到卢娜的住处”。故选D。
26.推理判断题。根据文章第二段“He believed this was his childhood wish coming true. And he knew he would make Luna’s wish come true too.(他相信这是他童年的愿望实现了。他知道他也能让卢娜的愿望成真)”、文章第三段“On January 2, 2021, Bamburg posted a photo of the balloon and the Christmas list on his Facebook page, asking for help locating the sender.(2021年1月2日,班伯格在他的Facebook主页上发布了一张气球和圣诞礼物清单的照片,请求帮助找到发送者)”和文章倒数第二段“She was more than touched when Bamburg drove 600 miles to send a dog and other gifts to them in April.(今年4月,班伯格驱车600英里给他们送去一只狗和其他礼物时,她非常感动)”可知,Alvin Bamburg帮助一位素不相识的女孩实现愿望做出了努力。
B项:Kindness from a stranger.(来自陌生人的善良)符合题意。故选B。
【阅读C】28.A 29.B 30.C 31.D
根据划线部分后面的句子“Even the most developed system couldn’t score higher than 60 points on the test.(即使最发达的系统在测试中的得分也没有高于60分)”可知,AI在测试中的表现不尽如人意。 故选A。
根据第一段的“AI can’t match the language and logic (逻辑) skills that students are expected to have when they enter middle school.(在语言和逻辑能力方面,人工智能无法与学生进入中学时所期望的能力相媲美)”和第四段的“Aristo was able to pass the exam because it can not only understand language but also use logical thinking to solve difficult problems.(Aristo能够通过考试,不仅因为它能听懂语言,还因为它可以运用逻辑思维解决难题)”可推知,开发Aristo是为了提高人工智能的逻辑和语言能力。故选B。
根据第三段的“The Aristo system used Bert, a kind of technology developed by Google, to answer the questions. Bert has “read” thousands of Wikipedia articles and books. If it looks at a sentence with a missing word, it can correctly guess what the word is. With the help of Bert, Aristo has “read” a lot of science questions and answers. Over time, it was able to find logical patterns (模式) on its own.(Aristo系统使用谷歌开发的Bert技术来回答问题。Bert阅读了维基百科上数以千计的文章和书籍。当它看到一个缺词的句子时,它能正确地猜出这个词是什么。在Bert的帮助下,Aristo已经阅读了许多科学方面的问题和答案。随着时间的推移,它可以依靠自己找到合乎逻辑的模式)”可推知,本段主要是为了说明Aristo是如何学习解决问题的。故选C。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段的“However, we can’t compare this technology to real human students and their logical ability, said Jingjing Liu, a Microsoft researcher, who has been working on similar technologies.(一直致力于相似技术研究的一位微软研究院刘静静表示,但我们不能将这项技术与真正的人类学生以及他们的逻辑能力进行比较)”可推知,刘静静认为Aristo的逻辑能力还有待于提高。故选D。
【阅读D】32.B 33.C 34.A 35.D
Scientists have found some frozen bodies from around 3,000 BC and their skin shows the marks of tattoos. For example, Otzi, the Iceman (the oldest body ever found), was discovered in the mountains of Austria. He had many different lines and crosses tattooed on his back and his knees.
If you can’t read the language, make sure you get someone to check what they represent, because the tattoo artist could write anything and you would never know.
由第三段you can get a temporary tattoo which disappears after about a month.

38.根据上文“Don’t wait until the night, before a test to start reviewing.(不要等到考试的前一晚再复习)”推知,空处陈述这样作的危害。
39.根据上文“Exercise is a great way to weaken anxiety. It releases endorphins that will elevate your mood. It will also distract your mind from the test and studying. So your brain will have a chance to relax and refresh itself.(锻炼是缓解焦虑的好方法。它会释放内啡肽,提升你的情绪。这也会让你的注意力从考试和学习上转移开。所以你的大脑将有机会放松和自我更新)”再结合本段小标题“Stay active.(保持活跃)”推知,下文继续陈述锻炼在减轻焦虑方面的作用。G项“任何数量的体育活动都会帮助你减轻焦虑”符合题意,exercise是关键词。故选G。
40.根据小标题“Have a good rest(休息好)”和空后句子“Commit to getting a full 8 hours of sleep or more every night.(每天晚上保证8小时或更长时间的睡眠)”可知,空处内容应与睡眠对焦虑的影响有关。
