第二部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题:每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
National Space Center, Leicester
An interactive museum of super-size space experiences: from a giant planet Earth you can touch to the UK's biggest domed planetarium(穹顶天文台)and a 42-meter rocket tower. You can’t miss the latter as you drive into Leicester-the structure looks like it's wrapped in giant inflatable pillows. Inside, it houses Blue Streak and Thor Able rockets. Take in the full scale of them by riding a glass-sided lift up to the viewing platform. Elsewhere, there are six galleries with plenty of buttons to press and screens to touch. It's all under cover so it's a good place to visit on a rainy day!
What about lunch
The Boosters Café serves reasonably priced hot and cold snacks and drinks (hot dog from 4. 95,plus jacket potatoes, soups, sandwiches and salads) at the foot of the center's two rockets. The café offers vegetarian and vegan options too. There's more seating in its Soyuz Lounge. Look out for the table with the big red button that says “Do not press”, and make sure you press it. We took sandwiches and ate them while we queued for the planetarium show.
Exit through the gift shop
The gift shop is the first thing you pass on entry and, as this place is one big loop, it’s also the last thing you see as you leave. It's stocked with space-themed souvenirs including books, games and telescopes. Some are quite pricey.
Getting there
There is a regular bus service(No. 54) with a stop two minutes' walk from the center, as well as a park and ride service from Birstall. East Midlands Trains and Cross-Country Trains operate services to Leicester station, from which the center is a 25-minute bus ride. If driving, it’s just off the A6,north of the city center. Parking is 3 for the day.
Value for money
It's not cheap-adult 15,5-to 16-year-olds 12-but once you've paid you can revisit as many times as you want in a year, and admission is free for kids under five.
Opening hours
10 am-4 pm Monday to Friday,10 am-5 pm weekends and school holidays.
21.What cannot be seen in the National Space Center
A.A bus stop. B.A big inflatable pillow.
C.The Boosters Café. D.A gift shop.
22. If a couple want to take their son, a primary school student, and 4-year-old twin sisters to the space center, how much will they spend on the tickets
A. 44. B. 39. C. 57. D. 42.
23.Which of the following is true according to the article
A. It takes visitors 25 minutes to get to the center from Leicester station by bus.
B. Visitors have to take umbrellas when visiting galleries in the center on a rainy day.
C.If buying tickets for the center, you can visit Leicester anytime for free within a year.
D. Visitors can buy space-themed souvenirs at reasonable prices when leaving the center.

There were many institutions in the city where he could find lodging and food in the name of charity. But Soapy was too proud to receive the gifts of charity. He did not enjoy having to discuss his situation and private affairs with strangers. In Soapy's mind, being a guest of the law was a much better option.
Soapy, having decided to go to the Island, set about accomplishing his goal immediately. There were many easy ways of moving toward his desire.
At a corner of Sixth Avenue was a shop with a wide glass window. Soapy took a stone and threw it through a show window. People came running around the corner. A cop was the first among them. Soapy stood still, with his hands in his pockets and smiled at the cop. “It was me,” said Soapy, still smiling.
The cop ignored Soapy completely. Men who break windows do not stay around to turn themselves in. They run as fast as they can. The cop saw a man further along the street, running. He ran after him. Soapy failed, sick at heart.
When he noticed a cop standing in front of a theater, Soapy decided to show the cop some “disorderly behaviors". On the sidewalk, Soapy began to scream at the top of his lungs. To his surprise, the cop turned his back and said to a passerby, “noisy, but no harm!” The wind was gettingcold. Soapy buttoned up his thin coat and walked away with a sad face.
Soapy walked slowly away. He had failed two times.
At last Soapy stepped before an old church on a quiet corner, where the organist played a Sunday anthem. Through the window a soft light glowed. The moon was above; vehicles and pedestrians were few; sparrows twittered sleepily under the roof. The influences of the music and the old church aroused a sudden and wonderful impulse in Soapy's soul, driving him to battle with his desperate fate. He would make a man of himself again.
Soapy felt a hand on his arm.
“What are you doing here ” A cop asked.
“Nothing.”
“Then come along!” said the policeman.
“Three months on the island,” said the Judge the next morning.

A.To receive the gifts of charity. B.To live in an old church.
C.To be a guest of an island. D. To stay in jail on the island.
25. What do Paragraph 3-5 mainly talk about

C.The determination of Soapy. D.The kindness of the cops.
26. What can we infer from Paragraph 7 about Soapy
A.It was the anthem from the old church that led to the change in Soapy's mind.
B.The old church was on a quiet corner with a soft light through its windows.
C.Everything seemed peaceful and quiet in Soapy's life.
D.Soapy would fight with the cop to make a difference.

Many Africans have Afros(非洲式发型;圆蓬式发型).And like anyone else, they send emojis to their friends-a zombie, or a mermaid or a genie. But which emoji can they use to represent themselves
Right now,2823 emojis are recognized by the Unicode Consortium(the UC),a non-profit organization that provides standards for text on the Internet and oversees emojis. Fifty-nine additional emojis are on the way, including a deaf person, interracial couples, and a mechanical arm.
Yet there are still no emojis of any person with an Afro, even though symbols exist for women and men with long and short hair, curly and straight hair, and blond, black and red hair.
Rhianna Jones,28,is on a mission to change that. She and Kerrilyn Gibson,25,have started a Change organization calling for the addition of an Afro emoji designed by Ms Gibson. They planned to submit the emoji to the UC over the weekend.
“What is amazing about our culture is that we have big hair, big energy, big stories and big voices,” Ms Jones said. “Emojis are the best way we can summarize our personality in digital conversations. ”
The UC, which acts as the gatekeeper for emojis, includes executives from Apple, Google, Facebook and other tech companies. They meet quarterly and agree to add approved emojis once a year.
“The number of emojis is becoming quite large,” said Mr Welch in an interview, a Unicode board member. “Every emoji adds to the amount of memory space on every phone. This isn't a big deal if you have the latest phone, but if you're in a developing country, with a small phone and not a lot of memory, it could be a big deal. This is why we don't open the floodgates.”
Many black women now see themselves in spaces they were not used to occupying and they are pushing to make those spaces bigger and more encompassing(包容的).“With the Afro emoji I want to create a space
where we can bring that big-hair energy and celebrate our roots in digital spaces,” said Ms Jones, who added
that it was important that the emoji be “for us, by us”.
28. Why does the author list some emojis in Paragraph 2
A.To show the Afro is ignored in emojis at present.
B. To display emojis gain popularity on the Internet.
C.To demonstrate the Unicode Consortium set a strict standard for emojis.
D.To illustrate the Afro is most culturally representative among all emojis.
29.Which of the following may affect the increasing number of emojis
A.People connected to the Africa.
B.A standard created by the UC.
C.Memory space on the phone.
D.A need for greater cultural diversity.
30.How does the Unicode Consortium work as the gatekeeper of emojis
A.Giant tech companies are chosen to serve as gatekeepers.
B.The Unicode allows a large number of emojis on phones every year.
C.The Unicode creates a standard and designs emojis for Internet users.
D.Executives from tech companies meet 4 times a year to approve new emojis.
31.What does Ms Jones want to tell us in the last paragraph
A.She was crazy about the Afro emojis.
B. Afro emojis symbolize more than a digital mark.
C.Only Afro emojis can bring her back to her roots.
D.She has been struggling to achieve cultural diversity.

The blue crab is a native of the east coast of the United States. In their natural habitat the crabs become inactive when the seawater temperature drops in winter. The species was first sighted in the Ebro Delta on Spain's Mediterranean coast in 2012,and since then the population has expanded sharply.
“The delta offers the perfect environment for the crab to flourish. The Mediterranean temperature suits them. The females need both fresh and salt water to complete the reproductive cycle,” say Barbera, a specialist in invasive species.
According to Joan Balague, head of the local fishermen's association, the female crab can produce up to eight million eggs. It takes 30-50 days for the baby crabs to come out and then they grow rapidly, devouring (吞噬)everything with their large claws and powerful jaws. The creature's only predator is the octopus, but only a big octopus could win a fight.
The blue crab has also found a home for itself on the southern shore of the Mediterranean since 2014 and wreaked havoc on the local species, as well as destroying fishing nets. The fishermen appealed to the government for help and a scheme was introduced to provide them with cages and to subsidize the value of the catch until they could develop a market.
Barbera and Balague both agree that eradication(根除;消灭) is not an option and that intensive fishing is the only way to control the species. An estimated 1450 tonnes of blue crabs worth around 2. 5 million have been produced this year. Much of the catch is frozen and shipped to Asia.
“Even though we're catching close to a tonne a day, the price is stable and in fact slightly higher than last year,” says Barbera. The crab is becoming more popular, especially in rice dishes. “The crab is here to stay. It has become another resource and there's a market for it so it's profitable for fishermen. We have to adapt and make the most of what we can get,” says Balague.
32.Where is the original home of the blue crab
A.The United States. B.Spain. C.The Mediterranean. D.Asia.
33.What do the underlined words “wreaked havoc on” in Paragraph 4 mean
A. made a big difference on B. did great harm to
C.had a profound effect on D. took an active part in
34.How do Barbera and Balague think about the blue crab
A.Barbera warns that overfishing blue crabs will lead to a great change in price.
B.They both disagree that careful fishing is the only way to control the species.
C.The blue crab has gained popularity all around the world because of its taste.
D.Balague believes that catching blue crabs for rice dishes enjoys good prospect.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Blue Crabs:Value in Future!
B.The Blue Crab “Invaded” Spain
C.The Reproductive Cycle of Female Blue Crabs
D.The Mediterranean,Perfect Environment of Blue Crabs

Compared with the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games, the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games on the evening of Feb 4 was different, yet spectacular. The audiences were treated 61 a pared down(精减的)ceremony, without the large-scale artistic performances 62 marked the 2008 opening ceremony, but it was no less symbolic-symbolic of a shared future for humankind.
In a bid_63_(hold)a simple, safe and yet spectacular Winter Games, the opening ceremony on Friday was not lengthy or_64 _(mark)with a large-scale performance. Even the number of_65(performer)-about 15,000 in 2008-was down to 3,000,and the duration of the ceremony was reduced to about 100 minutes because of the cold weather and the COVID-19 pandemic. The use of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine vision,5G and cloud broadcasting added to the novelty of the opening ceremony. The performances,_67_(carry)forward the theme of global peace and shared future for humankind, focused on environmental protection, and human health and physical fitness, highlighting the importance of sports to instill new confidence in the international community to contain the pandemic.
Through Friday's opening ceremony, people can_68 (clear) see China's pursuit of building a peaceful world, its reflection of the new Olympic motto of “Faster,Higher,Stronger-Together”69 the Beijing Winter Games' motto of “Together for a Shared Future”.
