I have been watching my daughters play sports since they were four, and have been shocked at how some parents in the crowd behave.
At soccer games, when my girls were very young, parents would be screaming at their children to get their heads into the game,to charge,to “get” an opposing player, or to “kill it”. I understand parents want to encourage their children and their team —but at some point it becomes too much.
My daughter Grace is a high school and AAU (Association of American Universities) basketball player and a very good one at that. During a recent game,a parent sitting near me was shouting loudly to her daughter, standing up, expressing displeasure about the way her team was playing and, during halftime, speaking loudly about her personal life. After having her in my ear for more than half of the game, I was so put off that I had to move.
Admittedly,I am the quiet parent at games. I clap for the schoolgirls when they make wonderful plays. For the most part, however, I remain silent. Shouting out makes them nervous.
I asked Grace to weigh in on this, and she tells me: "Some parents become extremely emotionally invested in sports games, which can become a problem for the players. The worst thing is when people point out that 'crazy parent’,they don’t know that’s your parent."
I am all for parent spectators cheering on their children and the rest of the team. But I hope you can cheer your children on in a positive way. Shouting things like "Where’s your head Go after her!” is not, in my view, the way to cheer on high school students or younger children.
If you have nothing positive to say, hold your tongue. If you find yourself struggling to keep it together, get some fresh air during halftime.

C.cheering on the players D.leaving during halftime
4.Who are the intended readers of the text
A.Parents. B.Teenage players. C.Soccer spectators. D.Coaches.

In the future, when robots can be used both in homes and in other areas, they could improve the living standards of people. Many people burn their energy on their day-to-day tasks like cooking, cleaning after work, etc. When robots can complete such jobs, people can spend more time with their family and friends. Experts say that many major problems in the modern world are caused by miscommunication. When people have more time, they can talk freely to solve such issues and eventually create a happy society.
Robots can be used on certain jobs to avoid accidents caused by careless behaviour of some people. When robots are used on such work, it does not risk any human life due to accidents at the workplace. Human resources can be efficiently used by performing tasks which demand human skills like critical thinking and problem solving. Robots can be used on low-end jobs like moving heavy things and heavy weight lifting.
While some people talk about how robots can be useful to humans, others voice their concerns about reduction in human value and the creation of a lazy society due to heavy dependency on robots. When robots become cheaper to produce, employers may prefer to use more robots than humans. As the technology constantly improves the abilities of robots i it could weaken the value of humans. Many people may rely on robots heavily. Some may even develop the habit of using robots on tasks that they can easily do. This could create a lazy society.
As an aging society, Japan sees it as a must to build robots that take care of elderly people at their homes, because without them, the nation’s health care system can't cope. There will simply be too many elderly people to care for as the nation faces a decreasing birth rate, an aging population, and the loosening of family ties. However, many of Japan's elderly people would prefer human helpers rather than robots. Above all. Japan wants,if not “needs”,its dreams of robots in the home to come true because its immigration(移民) policy is anti-immigration.
In conclusion, robots can be used on anything that can eventually improve humans’ living standards but we can't depend on them too much. Robots can be used to help humans live in harmony and form a happy society.
1.According to the first paragraph, when robots can be used in homes, __________.
A.people will spend more time on their work
B.there would be more misunderstandings between humans
C.people's living standards will he improved
D.people may communicate more with robots than human beings
2.Compared with humans, robots are better at ___________.
A.problem solving B.communicating with others
C.critical thinking D.working safely
3.Some people worry that with more robots being used __________.
A.people will be unwilling to work hard
B.human resources won't be needed at the workplace
C.it will be harder to improve the abilities of robots
D.robots will be beyond our control
4.What can we infer from Paragraph 4
A.Japan will try to develop robots to be used in the home.
B.The robots are well received by elderly people in Japan.
C.The Japanese government encourages foreigners to move to Japan.

Claude Sammut, a professor of computer science and engineering at the University of New South Wales in Australia, said it would soon be possible for robots to defeat the stars of the future.
For many years, Mr. Sammut has been a member of a project called RoboCup, where robots have been programmed to learn how to play football and compete against others in a football match.
As he explains, the robots are having difficulty in learning how to control the ball and move the ball on their own, but he is still full of confidence that one day in the future they will show the same skills as Wayne Rooney, who is one of the best football players in the world.
Mr Sammut also said, "In 1968. John McCarthy and Donald Michie made a bet with David Levy, who was then the chess champion in Scotland, that within 10 years a computer programme would be able to beat him. It took a little bit longer than 10 years (nearly 30 years) but eventually such programmes came into being."
"In the same spirit of a grand challenge, RohoCup aims to develop a team of robots that can defeat the world soccer champion team by the year 2050. To achieve this, or come even closer to the ambition, the robots will have to be able to sense and act in completely unstructured environments. This will require major advances in robots' perception(感知), decision-making, learning, and cooperative behaviours. Considering robots are integrated hardware and software systems, great advances will also be needed in sensors(传感器), energy storage, and materials."
1. The RoboCup is aimed to develop robots that know how to ________.
A. play computer football games
B. play football and win in real matches
C. understand the rules of the football game
D. improve the skills of real football players
2. What kind of difficulty are the robots facing in playing football
A. They can't run as fast as real people.
B. They can't recognize their partners accurately.
C. They can't control the ball well by themselves.
D. They can't pass the ball to their partners.
3. We can conclude from Mr Sammut's words that _____.
A. many parts of robots still need improving
B. robots would be smarter than human beings in the near future
C. robots have more ambitions than human beings
D. robots are able to sense and act in completely unstructed environments
4. What's the best title for this passage
A. Scientists' Wisdom in Designing Robot Football Players
B. Robot Football Players to Beat World's Best by 2050
C. Robot Football Players' Bright Future
D. Mr Sammut—the Father of Robot Football Players

Mo was waiting outside her class. She was feeling sick. She had two exams that day. Physics was first and she hated physics, it was her worst subject. Terry looked back at her from the front of the line, then looked away quickly. Mo thought she looked guilty. She didn’t have a problem with physics. She didn’t have a problem with anything!
“Hi, Mo, it’s your favourite exam today!” said Nima as she arrived. Terry looked back again. “What’s wrong with her ” said Nima. “I thought you were friends.” “Yes, so did I,” said Mo. “But she looks absent-minded and acts strangely these days. She promised to help me revise for the physics exam, but then she ignored all my calls and texts!” said Mo angrily while going into the exam room.
Mo couldn’t answer question number five. She looked up and saw Terry sitting in the next row. Mo was surprised. Terry was holding her phone under the table and she was reading from it. Is that how Terry always got good grades She felt really angry at Terry and thought about telling the teacher, but what would everyone else think of her It wasn’t fair! Mo never cheated and she failed lots of exams. Terry had already put her phone away when Mo looked up again. She looked back at Mo and smiled sadly. “Stop writing and put your pens down” said Mr Reed as he started to collect the exam papers. Oh no, Mo hadn’t answered two of the questions. She was going to fail again!
The next exam was history. That was Mo’s favourite subject but she didn’t feel good. “It wasn’t fair!” she thought. “Terry was getting good grades by cheating all that time. And I thought we were friends!” Just then, Mr Reed walked past her table. “Mr Reed...”
Mo was sitting behind Terry again in the history exam, but Terry didn’t take her phone out. Mo was feeling bad again. Why did she tell Mr Reed But it was too late now.
