The type of language depends on Who are you talking or writing to and the situation
What you expect or hope
Language is a system of communication used by a particular country or community.
Consider these aspects:
When communicating in English ask yourself the following questions:
Who am I speaking to
Why am I giving this explanations
What do I want to achieve
How can I achieve that
The answer to those questions will lead you to the type of language you need to use: FORMAL or INFORMAL speech
Style of language where choice of words and grammar tend to be familiar.
It is when you know the person you are talking or writing to.
e.g. a family member or relative, a friend, a classmate, a team mate, etc.
Informal Language
Style of language used when you are speaking or writing to someone you do not know or whom you want to make a good impression.
e.g. a boss, an authority, a teacher, a director, a manager, etc.

Hi!
I think you’ll laugh when you read the letter. Believe it or not,
there’s a real Harry Potter in the world. It’s said that it’s a lot of
trouble being Harry Potter, esp. when you’re a 78-yr-old man and
you happen to share the name of a world-famous boy with magic
powers.
The real Harry Potter often gets phone calls from both children and
TV stations. “The kids want to know if I’m Harry Potter,” he says
with a smile. “I tell them I’ve been Harry Potter for nearly 80 years!”
However, the real Harry Potter says that the Harry Potter series isn’t
his cup of tea, and he doesn’t care if he’s famous or not.
Love,
Kitty
