Presentation
My name is Teresa. I came to Canada two years ago. Now I’m in Grade 7. My family comes from Hong Kong. I speak Chinese at home, but I speak English at school every day.
How do I learn English Here are some tips:
Read a lot and use a dictionary! I often read English storybooks,
magazines and newspapers. Sometimes I don’t understand some
words. So I look them up in a dictionary.
Watch English TV shows and movies! Every Sunday evening, I
watch English movies. It helps a lot. I can enjoy myself and learn
English at the same time.
Listen to English music! I love music and I often listen to English songs. Just go on the Internet! You can find the words for many songs yourself. I like to write the words down. Then I can sing along with the music. It’s fun!
Speak English every day! I practice my English in class and after class. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes! Sometimes I make silly mistakes and I laugh at myself. My friends help me a lot.

2. So I look them up in a dictionary. (教材P72)
look ... up “查找......; 查阅......”, look up指的是查找与文字信息有关的资料, 用名词或代词作宾语。
当代词it或them作宾语时必须放在look和up之间, 并注意代词用it还是them。
【例句】
Please look up his phone number.
请查一下他的电话号码。
I don’t know the meaning of this word. I’ll look it up in a dictionary.
我不知道这个单词的意思。我要查一下字典。
【拓展】
“look up”还有“向上看”的意思。
【例句】
I looked up and saw him.
我向上看, 看到了他。
3. Then I can sing along with the music. (教材P72)
along with 和......一起; 连同
together with也可表示“和......一起; 连同”, with, along with和together with连接两个名词或者代词作主语, 其后谓语动词的数和第一个名词或代词保持一致。
【例句】
The boy together with his parents goes to the museum once a week.
这个男孩每周和他的父母去一次博物馆。
4. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes! (教材P72)
be afraid的意思是“害怕”, 相当于be scared。afraid是形容词, 只能作表语, 与be和feel连用。
be afraid常用于以下结构:
be afraid + that从句 恐怕......
be afraid so / not 恐怕是 / 不是
be afraid of sth. 害怕某物
be afraid to do sth. 害怕做某事
【例句】
I’m afraid of dogs. 我怕狗。
I’m afraid to go out at night by myself.
我害怕晚上一个人出去。
I’m afraid that you have to stay at home.
恐怕你不得不呆在家里。
—Do you have to go now 现在你必须要走吗
—I’m afraid so. 恐怕是的。
mistake n. 错误
常用短语是: make a mistake / mistakes 犯错误
mistake还可作动词, 意为“弄错”, mistake ... for ... 意为“把......错当成......” 。
【例句】
I often mistake the twins for each other.
我经常认不清这对双胞胎。
5. Sometimes I make silly mistakes and I laugh at myself.

silly adj. 愚蠢的, 傻的
silly既可用来修饰人, 也可用来修饰物。修饰人时, 主要是指某人由于缺乏常识、判断等而做出令人觉得愚蠢的行为或者举止。
【例句】
Don’t be silly. He is a dishonest man. 别傻了。他是个不诚实的人。
6. She is not here right now. (教材P72)
right now 此时, 现在
辨析：right now和just now
right now 常用于一般现在时, “此刻, 现在”
just now 常用于一般过去时, “刚才; 刚刚”
【例句】
They are listening to the concert right now.
现在他们正在听音乐会。
Tony ate a delicious ice cream just now.
Tony刚才吃了一个美味的冰激凌。
注意: right now相当于at the moment和at this moment。同时right now还可表示“立刻; 马上”。
