Analysis on the Teaching Material Class Type Reading
Teaching Objectives Knowledge and ability: 1. Ss can read and understand the new words and phrases: India, scary, scared, snake, forest, put up tents, get a surprise. 2.Ss will be able to have an overall idea about Lisa’s weekend and understand some details of the passage. 3.With the help of pictures and key words, Ss can retell the story of Lisa’s camping experience. They are expected to use the past tense of verbs correctly.
Emotion: Ss will be willing to develop the consciousness of safety when they go camping.
Learning strategy: Make predictions about the passage according to the title and the picture. Skim to find the topic sentence. Scan to obtain some detailed information. Skills to put the activities in the right order.
Cultural awareness: Know some basic information about snakes. Learn about camping.
Key Points 1.The past tense of verbs in the passage. 2. Camping activities which belong to “interesting”/ “scary”. 3. The lesson we can learn from Lisa’s camping.

Pre-reading from the passage. ※Ask: Why will Lisa remember the weekend the possible answers. make predictions according to the title and the picture.
Step 3 Skimming ※Ask:How was Lisa’s weekend ※Guide Ss to find the topic sentence. Read for the answer and check whether their predictions are right. Present the reading strategy: Topic sentence is usually in the first paragraph.
Step 4 Scanning ※Let Ss scan the passage and answer the questions 2-5 in 2b. ※Deal with some of the new words while checking the answers. ※Read and underline the answer. ※Read, understand and even act out some of the new words. Practice the reading strategy: Scanning.
Step 5 Careful reading ※Ask Ss to read the passage again and put the phrases in 2c in order. ※Check the answer by taking photos of two Ss’ answers and present the photos on the screen. Read again and finish the exercise. Help students to find the time order of the activities.
Step 6 Story telling ※Present some pictures and guide Ss to observe the pictures and give some key phrases according to the passage. ※Present the timeline and lead Ss to conclude these activities happen on two different days and they belong to two different key words: “interesting” & “scary”. ※Guide Ss to repeat the lesson Lisa learned. ※Encourage Ss to retell the story with the help of the pictures and key words. ※Observe the pictures and say the verb phrases(past tense) from the passage. ※Think and put the pictures into two different timelines. ※Read and find the lesson Lisa learned. ※Retell the story with the help of pictures and key words, trying to add some body language. ※Use pictures to help Ss know the activities better. ※Use the timeline to help Ss remember the order of the activities better. ※Consolidate the understanding of the whole passage by story-telling.
