Material analysis
This lesson is chosen from BookⅡ ,Unit7 Topic1 Section A(listening and speaking). It is about birthday. From this lesson, the students are required to talk about birthday and to improve their listening and speaking skills.
Analysis of the students
The students are 13 or 14 years old, they are very active and they like playing games very much, so during my class, I’ll design some interesting games and exciting activities to arouse students’ interest. And to improve their listening and speaking skills. They’ll also be interested in the class.
Teaching key points and difficult points
1)Teaching key points: Talk about birthday and read and spell the months and years.
2)Teaching difficult points: Turn listening and speaking practice into the usage in real life by making conversations.
Teaching Aims
1. Knowledgeable aims:
To learn some phrases and expressions about birthday, students can communicate freely by talking about somebody’s birthday.
2. Ability aims:
A) Teaching ability aims: Train students’ listening, speaking and communication skills.
B) Learning ability aims: Use different sentences to express birthday.
3. Emotion aims:
Enable the students to fall in love with speaking English, encourage them to cooperate and communicate with each other and know their parents’ birthdays.
Teaching methods
In this lesson, I’ll mainly train their listening and speaking skills by using Task-Based Language Teaching Method, Communicative Teaching Method, and Student-centered Teaching Method.
Learning methods
To get more information and improve listening skills and speaking skills, students will use Autonomous Learning Method and Cooperative Inquiry learning Method. Teaching procedures:
Step1 Warming-up and leading in
1. Greetings.
2. Introduce the main task for Unit 7 and Topic 1.
3. Enjoy a video, Twelve Months of the year.
Step 2 Months
1. Look and say
Let the Ss read the months after the teacher.
Show pictures and teach the words of months one by one, with sentences.
2. Listen to the tape and read months together.
3. Pair work: Ask and answer with the given structures. Finish 1c.
Step 3 Years
1. Use the information of Wu Jing to lead to the expressions of years.
2. Read the years shown in 2a.
3. Write the rest of the years in 2a and then check the answers.
4. Listen and write. Finish 2b.
5. Show two pictures of Jackson and Yang Mi, and let the Ss make conversations.
Step 4 Pre-listening
1. Use the information of Liu Xiang to practice the expressions of months and years, and learn the phrase “a big fan”.
2. Show a picture of J. K. Rowling and a poster of Harry Potter. Lead to 1a.
Step 5 While-listening
1. Listen and fill in the blanks. Finish 1b.
2. Watch the video and understand the conversation.
3. Listen to 1a and follow.
Step 6 Post-listening
1. Fill in the blanks to check how much they learnt from 1a.
2. Complete the conversation. Retell 1a.
Step 7 Pronunciation
1. Finish 3a.
2. Finish 3b.
