Speaking in
an interview, Naveen Jain, founder of a space exploration company called Moon
Express, said that he believes moon travel is just a decade away. And his
company, which is the first private firm to get approval from the U.S.
government to carry out the project of moon travel, wants to play a role in
helping people get to the moon surface.
''I believe
in the next ten years, there is going to be gentlemen on their knees asking
their sweethearts, honey, will you go to the moon with me for honey moon ''
Jain said in the interview.
Many people
in the technology and scientific communities are crazy about space exploration.
Space presents an unprecedented(史无前例的)number of
chances for scientific and human panies, big and small, are
determining how they can create technologies that would allow people to explore
space, the moon, and even Mars. Other companies are eyeing ways to play a role
in space travel.
The key of
that gold rush has been the declining cost of actually getting to space. Jain
said that while it once cost billions of dollars to go to the moon, his
company's unmanned space flight next year will cost just 7 million. As costs
continue to decline(减少),he believes that within the next decade, getting to
the moon will cost just $10,000.Better yet, it'll take just four hours to get
there.
Still, Mars
is the final prize. And even Jain, whose company will focus on moon travel,
said that ''Mars is certainly the right place to be finally. '' When asked if
he'd like to stage space fights to Mars, Jain said ''of course'', adding that
he believes Moon Express could partner with Elon Musk's SpaceX to make that
happen.
''Elon will
build the rocket and we do the travelers,'' Jain said of a theoretical
partnership. ''Generally, he lays the cables and we do the last mile.''
SpaceX and
Musk have not said whether they would work alongside Jain and Moon Express.
Either way, it looks like hopping from the moon to Mars (and back) might be
just a part of our lives.

Turtles have a habit of eating plastic objects oating in the sea, which may kill them. Many believe that it is because floating plastic bags look similar to jellyfish, which many types of turtles love to eat. However, lots of plastic objects that turtles eat do not look loke jellyfish at all. Joseph Pfaller of the University of Florida doubts that the smell of sea microorganisms (海洋微生物) which live on oating plastic objects attracts turtles to eat.
The kind of idea first appeared in 2016. researchers at the University of California, Davis, noticed that certain chemicals, especially dimethylsulphide (二甲基硫), which can be found on plastic where microorganisms live, are those which many seabirds sniff (嗅) to find food. These birds are more likely to eat plastics.
Since turtles usually appear above the sea surface and sniff the air when going to their feeding areas, Dr Pfaller believed that they are following these same chemicals like those seabirds and mistakenly think that floating plastic objects are edible.
To test that idea, he and his team did an experiment using loggerhead turtles. They exposed 15 turtles to four smells: the smell of clean water; the smell of turtle-feeding food; the smell of a clean plastic bottle; and the smell of a bottle that had been kept in the ocean for five weeks to allow microorganisms to grow on it. When sniffing both the smell of the turtle-feeding food and that of the five-week-old bottles, turtles kept their noses out of the water more than three times as long, and took twice as many breaths as they did when sniffing the smell of the fresh plastic bottle or clean water.
Though they have not yet tested whether dimethyl sulphide on the five-week-old bottles cause turtles to eat plastic objects, Dr Pfaller and his team think it is the highly possible.
( ) 1. Why is the research on seabirds mentioned
Seabirds prefer the smell of the plastic bottles.
Seabirds feed on the food similar to turtles.
Seabirds produce a certain microorganism.
Seabirds break up the plastics without difficulty.

Rainbow-coloured rubbish is the colourful waste created by a Swedish city with a unique recycling system. Like many cities in Sweden, Eskilstuna has an impressive recycling record. It met the EU's 2020 target of recycling 50% of waste many years ago.
Almost everyone who lives here follows a strict recycling policy at home. People are expected to sort their household waste into seven separate categories, including food, textiles, cartons and metal. But what really makes the system stand out is the bright colour code.
The reason for this becomes clear at the city's recycling plant. The bags arrive all jumbled up(被混在一 起)because they're collected altogether, once a fortnight from outside people's houses. But thanks to those bright colours, scanners can select the bags and separate them efficiently. The food waste in green bags is processed on site into slurry to make biogas, which powers the city's buses. One of the benefits of this method of recycling is that there is less cross-contamination, so more of the recycled waste can actually be used to make new things.
Like the rest of Sweden, Eskilstuna is committed to sending zero waste from its citizens to landfill. Waste that cannot be recycled is incinerated(焚化)at a local plant to generate electricity. This reduces reliance on fossil fuels, but does create greenhouse gases.
As countries around the world try to improve their recycling rates, some may think of Eskilstuna as an example to follow, as long as they think they can persuade their citizens to get busy sorting at home.
( ) 1. Why are bright colours used in Eskilstuna’s recycling system
To reach the target of recycling 50% of waste.
To reduce the citizens’ burden of sorting rubbish.
To make rubbish easy to separate and recycle.
To collect different kinds of rubbish separately.
( ) 2. How is the rubbish that cannot be recycled dealt with
It is used to produce electricity.
It is sent directly to landfill and buried there.
It is processed at once to make biogas.
It is mixed with other waste to make new things.
( ) 3. if other countries want to recycle waste like Eskilstuna, what should they do first
Persuade citizens to use as few fossil fuels as possible.
Not create greenhouse gases unless necessary.
Use the bright colour code to sort the rubbish.
Talk people into sorting household waste properly.
( ) 4. where is this text most likely from
A diary B. A magazine C. A novel D. A guidebook
