Car﹣sharing is catching on
Car﹣sharing is a new concept. Previously, car ownership helped to develop China's economy and its cities. But now people have found that it has led to traffic jams and other challenges to the environment and economy. Conversely, car sharing serves as a model to provide car access without the requirement of ownership.
Unlike traditional car﹣rentals over the counter, car﹣sharing refers to services where users can gain access to vehicles, often by the hour, online. The cars are usually parked at designated parking lots, where drivers can get to and return them. More than 40 companies in China currently offer car﹣sharing services, while most cars are new energy vehicles.

Among all the fast growing science and technology, the research of human genes, or biological engineering as people call it, is drawing more and more attention now. Discussions about it are increasingly heated around the world.
The greatest thing that gene technology can do is to cure serious diseases that doctors at present can almost do nothing with, such as cancer and heart disease. Every year, millions of people are murdered by these two killers. And to date, doctors have not found an effective way to cure them. But if the gene technology is applied, not only these two diseases can be cured completely, bringing happiness and more living days to the patients, but also the great amount of money people spend on curing their diseases can be saved. Therefore, it benefits the economy as well. In addition, human life span(寿命) can be prolonged.
Gene technology can help people to give birth to more healthy and clever children. Some families have genetic diseases. This means their children will for sure have the family disease, which is a great trouble for these families. In the past, doctors could do nothing about genetic diseases. But gene technology can solve this problem perfectly. Scientists just need to find the wrong gene and correct it, and a healthy child will be born.
Some people are worrying that the gene research can be used to create human beings in large quantities. In the past few years, scientists have succeeded in cloning animals such as mice, sheep, and dogs; therefore, these people predict that human babies would soon be cloned(克隆) and that it would be beyond control, leading to some disastrous consequences. But many believe that cloned babies will not come out in large quantities, for most couples in the world can have babies in a very normal way and they also believe the governments will control gene technology and make laws to make sure the gene technology will help improve our lives instead of harming us.

A daughter complained to her father about her life and how things were so hard for her.She did not know she was going to make it and wanted to give up.She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved a new one arose.
Her father,a cook, took her to the kitchen, and he filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire.Soon the pots came to a boil.In one he placed carrots,in the second he placed eggs, and in the last he placed ground coffee beans. He led them sit and boil, without saying a word.In about twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl.He pulled the eggs out and placed them a bowl. Then he ladled the coffee out and placed it in a mug.Turning to her he asked,"Darling, what do you see?" "Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.
He brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots and she did and noted that they were soft. Then he asked her to take an egg and break it.After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard﹣boiled egg. Finally,he asked her to sip the coffee. She smiled as she tasted its rich aroma.
What does it mean,Father? He explained that each of them had faced the same adversity, boiling water, but each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. But after being subjected to the boiling water,it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water. Its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique;however, after they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.
Which are you?He asked his daughter.
When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot,an egg or a coffee bean?

They are part of a project starting in 2012 that provides them with free housing in exchange for 30 hours per month of their time living as a "good neighbor". Only one activity is compulsory: preparing and serving a meal on weekday evenings.
Such projects could help fight loneliness, an increasing problem across the world. The very old, migrants, the sick or disabled, and singletons are most at risk of feeling lonely. 11.How many times have you heard the expression that most people spend more time planning their vacation than they do planning their lives. I would expand that expression by adding that most people spend more time "thinking" about their vacation than they do thinking about what's important in their life. While rest and relaxation are a must in living a balanced life, it's not what we were created to do. After all, the Master Creator took his R&R (Rest and Recreation) on the seventh day, only after six days of "definitely directed thought."
Wallace D. Wattles, wrote "There is no labor from which most people shrink as they do from that of sustained and continuous thought; it is the hardest work in the world."And yet it is the first and primary labor of achievement.
What is your life's purpose or your personal mission statement? Is it written down? Do you review it and think about it often? Is your life organized around your purpose and a set of goals that support that purpose?
Without purpose and goals ﹣ definitely directed thought﹣ you are like the proverbial "ship without a rudder (舵)."There is power in your purpose and in your goals. It is the power that takes you over obstacles, the fuel that pushes you toward the life you expect.

12.It was an Art lesson. Rachel sat at the desk watching her classmates busy preparing the water jars and paints. She understood why Mrs. Weston asked her to sit down and got Lisa to fetch everything for her. It was always a disaster when Rachel tried to do Art!
Rachel sighed and reached out to dip her brush in some black paint and﹣oh, no! She knocked over the jar. The water spread across the desk and drowned the paper. Lisa called Mrs. Weston to see what Rachel had done. Rachel went red in the face. She jumped to her feet to get a cloth. Her chair fell over backwards. She turned round and her paintbrush caught Lisa across the face, giving her a black moustache. Lisa was so surprised that she fell back against a wire bookstand. It came crashing down and the books went all over the floor.
How clumsy(笨拙的)! Rachel thought as she went home on the bus. The bus stopped outside her house. She jumped up and her elbow (肘部) knocked a woman's hat right over her eyes. Oh, no! Rachel said sorry, got off and ran indoors. Mum wasn't in the kitchen but lay in bed as she caught an awful cold. Rachel offered to make a cup of tea but Mum would rather wait for Dad. Rachel sighed. She understood Mum was afraid she would spill (溅出) it.
"But would you go to Mrs. Willow for some cold medicine?" asked Mum. Rachel turned to the door at once. "But Rachel, Mrs. Willow's house is full of beautiful things, so if she asks you to come in, you'd better say no." Rachel sighed and ran out.
Mrs. Willow was an old lady with white hair and sharp blue eyes living in an old house. She opened the door and invited her in. Rachel said why she came and that she preferred to wait outside remembering her mother's warning. Mrs. Willow insisted Rachel come inside. Rachel took a deep breath and stepped in. She looked round Mrs. Willow's sitting room and saw at once why Mum had been worried.

16.Karl walked to the back of the classroom to put his book away. There, lying on the carpet in front of the bookcase, was a golden ticket! He picked it up. His heart beat faster when he saw that the name line was blank (空白的).
The boys and girls in Karl's class could earn golden tickets by doing well in their work or by being extra helpful or kind. Once a week his teacher, Miss Evans, drew a ticket out of a jar (广口瓶), and let the winner choose a prize. Karl couldn't believe his luck.
The golden ticket was going to be drawn, and here was another ticket, just for him. He looked around, but no one else was near the ticket. All his classmates were at their desks, laughing and talking with each other.
Karl decided to write his name on the blank line. Then he could put it into the prize jar with the tickets he'd already earned. With so many chances, at least one of his tickets would be picked! Then he could choose the pink pig as his sister's birthday present, just like what he had been hoping for.
He smiled and reached for the pencil in his pocket. Suddenly his fingers stopped. There was a strange feeling in his chest ( 胸膛 ), and it wasn't his heartbeat. He looked out of the window and tried to figure it out (弄清楚). He did find the ticket, but he hadn't earned it. Maybe whoever lost it was looking for it. But he needed this extra ticket for his great plan!
He remembered what Dad had told him and his sister. "When you make a right choice, you can feel peaceful inside. You never have to feel bad about your choice later."

When in London by tube with mainly English passengers, we tend to sit together in total silence. However, when I traveled in China, people sitting next to me often asked me about my age, salary, and even marriage. They were also willing to introduce themselves as much possible.
On the first day I arrived in China, a Chinese professor invited me to dinner accompanied by his colleagues. After dinner, the professor paid for the meal alone, although the others also offered to pay for it. In Britain, we are accustomed to going "Dutch" while eating in a restaurant.
One day, at a friend's birthday party, I met with a foreign friend and offered my hand, meanwhile he bowed to me. We were both at a loss for a moment, but soon he seemed to be conscious of something and shook my hand naturally.

Are you stressed at work? A recent study found that one third of workers describe their jobs as highly stressful; and 75% believe that work is more stressful now than it was 20 years ago. Work﹣related stress can lead to headache, depression, memory loss, a lack of concentration, stomach problems and an inability to sleep. But what causes it?
Lots of things, apparently. For example, someone who finds their job too difficult may become stressed, especially if they don't get any help. Similarly, someone who works too hard for too many hours can become stressed. Finding a job boring can also cause stress, as can working in an unfriendly environment do. But everyone is different. So, while one person may find working 60 hours a week very stressful, another may find it challenging and enjoyable.
So, what can managers do to prevent stress ? Once again, lots of things. They can make sure that the demands of the job and the skills of the workers are matched, that the worker is provided with the resources he or she needs to do the job, that problems are discussed, that employees are given timetables that allow them to organize their life outside work, and that everyone is given clearly defined roles and responsibilities. Also, that employees are offered rewards for good work, and that there are opportunities for career development.
More importantly, what can you do to reduce stress? Lots, too! For a start, you can talk about it. If you've got a problem, find someone to discuss it with. Get moving﹣﹣﹣ensure you're getting lots of exercise. Make sensible food choice and eat food that's good for you. Get lots of sleep. When you lack sleep, your ability to handle stress is compromised. Ensure that jobs are evaluated carefully before agreeing to take them on. Develop the capacity to meet challenges with humor. Laughter is a great stress buster. Give yourself more time! If you are always running late, set your clocks fast so you get things done in time. You have to do it all yourself.
Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi for a living. One night I went to pick up a passenger at 2:30 a. m. When I arrived to collect her, I found the building was dark except for a single light in a ground floor window.
I walked to the door and knocked, "Just a minute," answered a weak, elderly voice.
After a long time, the door opened. A small woman in her eighties stood before me. By her side was a small suitcase.
I took the suitcase to the car, and then returned to help the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly towards the car.
She kept thanking me for my kindness. "It's nothing," I told her. "I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother treated."
"Oh, you're such a good man." She said. When we got into the taxi, she gave me an address, and then asked, "Could you drive through downtown?"
"It's not the shortest way," I answered quickly.
"Oh, I'm in no hurry," she said. "I'm on my way to a hospice (临终医院). I don't have any family left. The doctor says I don't have very long. "
I quietly reached over and shut off the meter (计价器). For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked, the neighborhood where she had lived, and the furniture shop that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl.
Sometimes she'd ask me to slow down in front of a particular building and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.
At dawn, she suddenly said, "I'm tired. Let's go now." We drove in silence to the address she had given.
"How much do I owe you?" she asked.
"Nothing." I said.
"You have to make a living," she answered. "Oh, there are other passengers," I answered. She said thanks to me, but she looked so sad.

Millions of haloxylon ammodendron (梭梭树) have been planted to limits and erosion (侵蚀) in deserts in Alxa League, thanks to Ant Forest, an online platform where Alipay users can cultivate virtual trees via online payment. Once the virtual trees have grown online, real ones will be transported to the desert by low﹣carbon means.
In August 2016, Ant Finance cooperated with the Alxa Society of Entrepreneurs and ecology to introduce the Ant Forest platform. It aims not only to encourage citizens to choose a low﹣carbon way for buying transporting and living but also to control desertification in Alxa League.
Virtual trees in Ant Forest need to absorb so﹣called "energy" or "water" exchanged through "green behaviors", including online payment of water and electricity fees, taking public transport, making doctor's appointments online, purchasing train tickets online, walking, etc. The green behaviors usually take 24 hours to transform into "energy" or "water". A user's Alipay friends can "steal" the energy if the user doesn't "absorb" it fairly quickly.
During the process, users can not only be easily satisfied by seeing their trees grow step by step through green behaviors, but also they can enjoy the fun of stealing energy from their Alipay friends. That's part of the reason why Ant Forest has become popular among Chinese people.

Young Chinese parents embracing e﹣books for children

People use more than one exclamation mark ("Sounds good!!!),and all caps ("GREAT IDEA!"),and repetition of letters ("soooo tired")in social media. These are the three main ones that show enthusiasm, according to Deborah Tannen, a professor at Georgetown University. It is the same for the Chinese character "哈(ha)",which we use to represent laughter. We usually text two, three or more of these characters to indicate how happy or amused we are. Using many of these kinds of symbols and characters is clearly becoming a cultural phenomenon.
"HEY STEVE!" someone recently emailed me. Both my name and "Hey" were in caps, and all five sentences in the message ended with exclamation marks. At first glance I assumed the message was a loved one writing from a plane that was going down. It turned out to be someone I hardly knew, discussing minor household chores and thanking me for something that had taken no effort on my part.
I hate it, that if we don't put six exclamation marks in an email or text we sound like a 13﹣year﹣old girl. But when used too much, the exclamation mark makes no sense to the receiver, losing its intended meaning.

Numbers of Shared Cars in China and Tendency
Car﹣sharing is catching on
Car﹣sharing is a new concept. Previously, car ownership helped to develop China's economy and its cities. But now people have found that it has led to traffic jams and other challenges to the environment and economy. Conversely, car sharing serves as a model to provide car access without the requirement of ownership.
Unlike traditional car﹣rentals over the counter, car﹣sharing refers to services where users can gain access to vehicles, often by the hour, online. The cars are usually parked at designated parking lots, where drivers can get to and return them. Cleanliness is important to academic success at one Chinese university where compulsory (强制的)labor is part of a program designed to award class credits while teaching students with proper moral values.
During winter, the sky is still dark at 6:30 a.m. when the first﹣year students in Trade and Management College in Zhengzhou begin sweeping (打扫)the 165﹣acre campus and it can take up to an hour.
Mr Sun, the university official, said labor is good for building character and promotes "the spirit of hard work". Some students also claim that they are always proud of the clean campus. The never litter because they've been through the labor and understand that they should respect the fruits of labor of others.

Generally,I am in favor of the practice. To begin with, through their effort, students provide a clean and comfortable environment, which,as a result,is an assurance of their successful academic life. Moreover,进而论述.not only…but also… Last but not least,最后一点.develop the awareness of gratitude and regard labor as a matter of honor理由确切不牵强. 其中significance, participating和as well as的使用可圈可点.
1. One university in Zhengzhou designs a program where students must clean the campus every day and relates it to class credits.
2. To begin with, through their effort, students provide a clean and comfortable environment, which,as a result,is an assurance of their successful academic life.
One university in Zhengzhou designs a program where students must clean the campus every day and relates it to class credits.(高分句型一)Some people support the program while others do not.(内容概括:郑州一大学设计一新程序:学生必须每天都打扫校园,保持清洁)
Generally,I am in favor of the practice. To begin with, through their effort, students provide a clean and comfortable environment, which,as a result,is an assurance of their successful academic life.(高分句型二)(创造了干净整洁的环境)Moreover, cleaning and labor can not only serve to build students'character but also contribute positively to students developing healthy routines and good sanitation habits.(培养了学生优秀的品德以及健康卫生的习惯)Last but not least,by enjoying the fruits of others'labor, students will develop the awareness of gratitude and regard labor as a matter of honor.(人人热爱劳动)In short, carrying out the cleaning program is crucial. The significance for students of participating in it means more than academic success. It is part of moral education and benefits students as well as the campus.(总之,保证了学生的学业成功也是德育教育的一部分,学生和学校都受益)(支持这一观点以及陈述理由理由)
