In our life, we don’t often express our gratitude(感激) to the one who’d lived those years with us.
In fact, we don’t have to wait for anniversaries(周年纪念日) to thank the ones close to us — the ones so easily overlooked. If I have learned anything about giving thanks, it is this: give it now! While your feeling of appreciation is alive and sincere, act on it. Saying thanks is such an easy way to add to the world’s happiness.
Saying thanks not only brightens someone else’s world, but it also brightens yours. If you’re feeling left out, unloved or unappreciated, try reaching out to others. It may be just the medicine you need.
Of course, there are times when you can’t express gratitude immediately. In that case don’t let embarrassment(尴尬) sink you into silence — speak up the first time you have the chance.
Once a young minister, Mark Brian, was sent to a distant church of Kwakiut Indians in British Columbia. He had been told that the Indians did not have a word for thank you. But Brian soon found that these people were very generous. Instead of saying thanks, it is their custom to return every favor with a favor of their own, and every kindness with an equal or more kindness. They do their thanks.
I wonder if we had no words in our vocabulary for thank you, would we do a better job of communicating our gratitude? Would we be more responsive, more sensitive and more caring?
Thankfulness sets in motion a chain of reaction that transforms people all around us – including ourselves, for no one ever misunderstands the melody of a grateful heart.
45. In the first paragraph the writer mainly encourages us ______.
A. to express our sincere thanks timely to those around us
B. never to overlook our close friends in daily life
C. to wait for a proper occasion to show our gratitude
D. to increase the world’s happiness by saying thanks
46. When we say something for what others do for us, it ______.
A. is good for both us and people who help us
B. benefits the people who do something for us
C. wastes our and our friends’ time at the same time
D. does harm to both us and people who help us
47. According to the writer, ______ could be the best way to prevent ourselves from being left out.
A. seeing a doctor to find the right medicine we need
B. expressing our gratitude in an easy way
C. speaking up the moment we have the chance
D. showing others actively we are willing to help them
48. Mark Brian’s story is mentioned in the passage in order to show the fact that ______.
A. the Indians didn’t have any words for appreciation
B. the Indians were particularly generous to others
C. some people may express their gratitude through different ways
D. Mark Brian set the Indians an example to show saying thanks is very important
C
There have been a few articles in the press over the last couple of months about “Chinese-style road crossing.” The definition of this phrase is “a large number of people jaywalking together because they feel safe in a big group.”
Crossing the road is a simple task but sometimes it can be time-consuming and dangerous. It can be attractive to try and rush across the road while the red light is still on; it’s only a short distance, what’s the worst that can happen?
Many walkers don’t seem to understand the risk they are taking. If the light’s on green, then most drivers won’t pay attention, believing that no one will be crossing the road. If the driver does notice, it’s possible that they may not have the required stopping distance to be able to stop before hitting the person.
Also, stepping out onto a road at the wrong time causes the traffic to slow down, meaning the cars behind them have to slow down, creating a chain reaction, possibly even a long traffic jam. On the other hand, it can be difficult to obey the rules when there is a lack of walkers-friendly crossings and it seems that drivers don’t follow the rules, either. Even if the green light is showing, cars are still allowed to turn right at many lights, often turning into large crowds of people legally crossing the road. Many times these cars don’t slow down, meaning walkers have to quickly move out of the way. It also means that people can’t cross the road when they should be allowed to -- maybe this is a motivating factor for so-called jaywalkers.
Driving a car doesn’t mean you have more rights. It’s a privilege(特权) and with that privilege comes a lot of responsibility. It doesn’t seem completely fair to punish walkers for taking matters into their own hands on a road system that’s designed against them. A rethink of the way walkers crossings work and driver education may put a stop to “Chinese-style road crossing.”
49. What does the underlined word “jaywalking” in the first paragraph probably mean?
A. Walking freely on the roadside. B. Crossing the road at a wrong time.
C. Crossing the road hurriedly. D. Rushing into cars.
50. From the second paragraph we can infer that some people believe ______.
A. it’s not dangerous to cross the short distance B. crossing the road is time-consuming and dangerous
C. crossing the road with the red light on is attractive D. the simple task can be dangerous
51. The risk of Chinese-style road crossing exists in the following EXCEPT ______.
A. most drivers believe there is no jaywalking with the light green
B. stepping out onto the road at the wrong time can cause traffic jams
C. it’s not easy for drivers to follow traffic rules
D. drivers wouldn’t like to take their responsibility
52. The passage is mainly developed by ______.
A. analyzing causes B. making comparisons C. examining differences D. listing opinions
第二节:阅读下列材料,从所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出符合53—56小题要求的最佳选项。
Tipping is very common in many countries. Different country has different tipping rules because of differences in culture. Read the rule description(A, B, C and D) and match them with the introductions of some cities in Asia marked 53-56.
53. Though tipping is not allowed, people who have served you accept tips in a certain way.
54. Culturally, tipping is unnecessary, but customers sometimes pay service charge when checking out.
55. If you want to get loyal service, you should give a tip more than 10%.
56. You are not expected to pay tips at a low class hotel.
A
Kuala Lumpur Like Indonesia, tipping in Malaysia is only common in the expensive westernized joints, which often add a 10% service charge to your meal or hotel bill.
Restaurants: If you are at a hotel restaurant, expect a 10% service charge or add the same amount yourself. But at local stalls, there’s no need to add a tip.
Porters: At five-star hotels, one or two ringgit will be enough. At low-end establishments, you are not forced to tip.
Taxis: Many taxis are now metered, so you can just round up to the nearest ringgit. In unmetered taxis, expect a session of hard bargaining for the ride.
B
Manila Tipping is common in Manila, the Philippines, and anything above 10% will gain you long-lasting loyalty.
Restaurants: Even if a service charge is included, it is a custom to add another 5-10% to the bill.
Porters: Service in top hotels is good and should be rewarded with 20% pesos per bag.
Taxis: Most taxis are metered, and rounding up to the next five pesos is a good rule of taking taxis.
C
Seoul Tipping is not part of the Korean culture, although it has become a rule in international hotels where a 10% service charge is often added.
Restaurants: If you are at a Korean barbecue, there’s no need to add anything extra. But a luxury Italian restaurant may require a 10% service charge.
Porters: If you are at a top-end hotel, international standards apply, so expect to tip 500-1,000 won per bag.
Taxis: Drivers don’t expect a tip, so unless you’re feeling remarkably generous, keep the change for yourself.
D
Singapore City According to government rules in the Lion City, tipping is a no-no. It’s basically outlawed at Changi Airport and officials encourage tourists to neglect the 10% service charge that many high-end hotels added to the bill.
Restaurants: Singaporeans tend not leave tips, especially at the outdoor eateries. Nicer restaurants do sometimes charge a 10% service fee, but there’s no need to supplement that.
Porters: Hotel staff are the one exception to the no-tipping rule. As a general guide, $ 1 would be enough for baggage-lugging service.
Taxis: Drivers don’t expect tips, but they won’t refuse if you want to round up the fare to the next Singaporean dollar.

书面表达:
Possible version:
It is known to us all that some students copy others' homework. On one hand, we students have to do a large amount of homework both at home and at school. It is also true that sometimes we have some problems which are too difficult for us to work out. On the other hand, lazy and uninterested in their lessons, some students copy others’ homework both to finish the assignments and please their teachers.
In a word, copying others’ homework is a bad habit. For one thing, it’s against the rules of the school. We should be honest and work hard to achieve high grades. If we have difficulties, we can turn to our teachers and our classmates for help. For another, copying others’ homework too often, we will lose the ability that can help us to think.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s for our own sake to study. We should do our best to gain knowledge. Let’s do our bit to prevent such bad behavior from spreading.
