Dear John,
I’m more than sorry to know that you are addicted to Dou Yin. I’m very worried about you. Now I’m writing to inform you of the harm caused by Dou Yin and offer you some advice.
Firstly, spending too much time playing Dou Yin may make you exhausted and absent-minded during taking a class. What’s more, playing Dou Yin for a long time will affect your eyesight. Therefore, you should limit the time you spend on Dou Yin. And it is suggested that you should develop an interest in other things, such as reading and running.
Hopefully, what has been mentioned above will be helpful to you. Looking forward to you good news.
Yours, Li Hua

Sensing our helplessness, Viraaz offered to put us up in their accommodation for the night. “It’ll be crowded and small but I hope you won’t mind,” he said. I was surprised at his generosity. Necessity forced us to agree and we set off by foot towards the guesthouse. Upon our arrival, Viraaz’s family worked tirelessly with supplies to make us feel at home — food was quickly heated and shared and blankets brought out for us. The guesthouse was filled to three times its usual capacity, but everyone managed.
Our friendship has since continued for decades. We phoned each other, traveled together several times and got together regularly. Viraaz even came to live with us in Ahmedabad when he shifted to the city. We frequently went fishing together on the weekend. It was quite a wonder that this rich friendship between families started with just a half-eaten packet of biscuits at a train station. We’ve been happy about it.

Good morning, boys and girls. Welcome to our sports camp. Before you are divided into groups, I’d like to give you some information about the plans for this week. During your time here, you’ll play at least 12 different sports. In the mornings, there are plenty of programs including physical training, skiing, and visiting the stadiums. But you will have a free choice for afternoon activities. And on Tuesday night, you’ll see a movie about a world-record holder. Now, a quick word about clothes: you can wear your sports suits for most sports. But you should remember to take your swimsuits with you on Wednesday, because we’ll have a swimming lesson in the afternoon. Throughout the camp, we’ll do both outdoor sports and indoor activities. So, please make sure that you have two pairs of sports shoes with you, too. Lunches are served in the dining room between half past twelve and a quarter to two. We also have a shopping center where you can buy drinks, chocolates, biscuits, and other snacks. But a word of warning: don’t eat too much at any given time, or you won’t be able to run as fast as you want to. You’ll all go home next Friday.宿迁青华中学2021-2022学年度第二学期第一次月考

Four years ago, Alastair Driver was made director of Rewilding Britain, a charity with a mission to shake up conservation in the UK. Rewilding, in theory, is to restore land and let nature take back control. Once he got started, he fell in love with conservation all over again. Alastair’s goal is to make the concept mainstream. So far, he’s moving in the right direction. “The British government is including rewilding in future farming policy,” he says.
If anyone knows what’s good for Britain’s wild spaces, it’s Alastair. His father was a country naturalist, so the natural world played a big role in his life from an early age. After studying ecology at university, he went on to become a conservation officer for the Thames Water Authority, where he spent 34 years preserving rivers and wetlands. Then, in 2002, Alistair took charge of the Environment Agency, shaping national policy and strategy until 2016.
Now, he believes rewilding is the next step for nature restoration in the UK and it needs to happen on a much larger scale. As such, Alastair spends most of his time travelling around the UK, meeting with landowners, advising them about the advantages of rewilding their land, and offering practical tips for getting started. In just four years, he’s seen a massive uptake in interest. In the early days, Alastair would literally ring around his contact list to get people involved; now, he can hardly cope with emails and calls coming his way. Part of this change is a symptom of the bigger environmental challenges facing mankind. “People are more aware of climate change and the biodiversity crisis,” he says.
Towards the end of 2020, with Alastair’s continuous efforts, the Rewilding Network was launched, a platform where farmers and landowners can connect, share ideas, and seek expert advice. Currently, just over 200, 000 acres of land are being rewilded through the network. For Alastair, it’s a huge step in the right direction.
What is Alastair’s goal in Rewilding
A. To regain his interest in conservation. B. To force the government to make policies.
C. To get the idea recognized by most people. D. To advertise the charity for more donations.
25. What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A. What Alastair studied in the past. B. When Alastair started conservation.
C. How Alastair’s father influences him. D. Why Alastair knows much about nature.
26. Why does people’s attitude towards rewilding change
A. Alastair puts efforts to promote rewilding. B. Alastair has faith in the value of rewilding.
C. People face fewer environmental challenges. D. People are taught measures to rewild the land.
27. What can we learn from Alastair’s story
A. Don’t judge a book by its cover. B. Birds of a feather flock together.
C. A devoted soul can achieve his goal. D. A man becomes learned by asking questions.

Most of us control our technology using our fingers and hands. But for years, people with disabilities have used their eyes as a way to control digital interfaces (界面). Some tablets give disabled people the ability to use the Internet, communicate and even play games using just their eyes as a mouse.
Now, researchers are experimenting with ways to bring eye-tracking technology to general users. At a conference last week scholars presented two new methods for able-bodied people to take advantage of a user interface that has mostly stayed within the field of assistive technology.
One of the most annoying things about writing is mistakes. Researchers at the university of Auckland and the university of Bath suggest using your gaze (凝视) to fix those little mistakes. First, you look at the wrong word you want to fix. Then you start typing the program called Re-Type, identifies the word you’re trying to change based on your gaze and replaces it with whatever you type. Then you just have to press ENTER to continue. It turns your eyeballs into a mouse. The research team has patented Re-Type and wants to turn it into a product.
It has been found that developers spend about 35% of their time looking through their code while they’re working. When they’re removing mistakes from a computer program, they spend about 50% of their time looking for information—something that slows them down greatly. To solve this problem, Weber and his workmates at media design school in New Zealand and the University of Bath used eye-gaze technology to look into whether using their eyes would save developers’ time. The researchers found that relying on one’s gaze was similar in speed to using a keyboard, though it was slower than using a mouse. However, they also found that when given the choice, most developers chose to use their gaze.
Both studies show that eye tracking could be used to increase productivity and one’s gaze could become a compliment (补充物) to the mouse or even replace it altogether.
28. Why does the author mention “disabled people” in Paragraph 1
A. To help introduce the topic. B. To call on us to help the disabled.
C. To inform us of their different abilities. D. To show their ability to use the technology.
29. What do you know about the new method from Paragraph 3
A. You needn’t type the word you want. B. It prevents you from making mistakes.
C. The patent has benefited general users. D. You can replace the mouse with your gaze.
30. What does the underlined part “this problem” in Paragraph 4 refer to
A. Consuming time. B. Developing programs.
C. Removing mistakes. D. Seeking information.
31. What is the main idea of the passage
A. Eye tracking will help the disabled. B. Your eyeballs will work as a mouse.
C. The technology will free us of mistakes. D. Assistive technology will determine our future.
D
“It's possible to jump to happy endings a little too quickly,” says Laura King, PhD, a psychology professor at the University of Missouri, Columbia. In her research with people who have experienced major life challenges, King has found that people whose stories gloss over(掩盖)conflict tend to become happier over the course of two years.
“The ability to take some time and experience grief(悲伤)or unhappiness improves your ability to appreciate the world in all its richness and complexity,” King says.
In one study, King asked parents to tell the story of discovering that their child had Down syndrome. Immediately after telling their stories and again two years later, the parents completed measures of subjective well-being. Researchers blind to the participants' test scores read their stories and recorded the presence of foreshadowing(预示)and whether the stories had happy or sad beginnings and endings. The researchers also scored how vividly the stories illustrated conflict, struggle and exploration.
Two years later, the parents who had grown happier were the ones who had written stories with happy endings. “I knew everything would be all right,” one woman wrote. Another parent wrote, “I know my daughter is quite special. She's the closest I've come to an angel on Earth.”
However, only the parents who first vividly described their mixed feelings upon learning of their child's diagnosis grew happier. “I cried a lot,” wrote a parent. “The pain was so deep. I felt cheated. I could hardly function.” These were also the parents who later seemed best able to fully appreciate their children's gifts and limitations.
What did the study find
A. People with sick child tend to be happier.
B. People usually jump to happy endings too quickly.
C. People who go through challenges may become happier.
D. People need to suffer difficulty to be able to appreciate happiness.
33. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. Who the research focused on. B. Why researchers did the study.
C What benefit the finding will bring us. D. How researchers carried out the study.
34. What do parents have to do first to become happier
A. Preview what will happen to them. B. Describe their mixed feelings clearly.
C. Write a story with a happy beginning. D. Take good care of their sick children.
35. What is the text
A. A news report. B. A diary.
C. A travel guide. D. A short story.

It was a January afternoon. My wife, Savitri and I sat on the Sahyadri Express. As the train pulled out of the station, we could barely hide our excitement. We were finally on the way to a honeymoon to Matheran! This was the first time we had enough savings to go on a trip together.
The train stopped at Neral, where we were forced out of our reverie (白日梦). As we stepped out and started making inquiries, we realized it was unlikely that we would find a train to take us to the misty hill station we had been dreaming of for months. The afternoon gradually settled into a pink dusk as we sat in a corner at the station, waiting for news of the train services as the cold winter breeze rattled (使紧张)our bones. We unwrapped some biscuits when a little girl, no more than five or six, went past us, screaming, “But I want food! I am hungry!”
Savitri's eyes turned to the girl’s family. Smiling, she called out-her name was Mehrunisa,we overheard-and asked her to seek her parent’s permission to accept biscuits from us. Left with no option, her family accepted, And we began chatting.
After several hours, the train finally arrived. We entered alongside. As the short uphill journey progressed, Savitri and I softly discussed our trouble. It seemed unlikely that our reservation at Ragdi Hotel would still be held. As the train arrived and we rose to bid the family goodbye, Mehrunisa’s father, Viraaz, suggested that he would accompany us to make sure that we had a place to spend the night. He had overheard our anxious exchange.
His family headed to their guesthouse and Viraaz came with us to look for a hotel. To no one’s surprise, Ragdi Hotel was packed with people. The manager offered assistance by placing a few beds in the coal storage room but the cold made it uninhabitable. A gradual dread(恐惧)started to appear in my mind.
