Analysis of teaching material:
The topic “Personal Information and Interests” is related to “Human and Society”, and students are familiar with it. Based on the background of volunteers at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, students are asked to review and master the words, phrases, sentence patterns about personal information and hobbies in the created situations . By reading two passages about volunteers of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, students will get a better understanding of “What the volunteers are like”; “Why they were chosen to be volunteers”; and “What the benefits of being a volunteer are”and be willing to learn from the volunteers. With full preparations, students are able to write an email to recommend themselves to be volunteers for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, meanwhile, they are motivated to spread love, positive energy and help to others.
Analysis of students:
1. The students in the Grade 9 already have the basic English language ability, they are familiar with the topic and interested in Olympic Games, so most of they are active and able to use lots of words to describe themselves, but a few students still lack in reading and writing.
2. Most students' learning ability is good, and they can broaden the learning channels.
3. Some students’ general language skills are not good enough and they lack of the ability in summarizing and knowledge transfer.
4. For the quality of thinking, most students have a certain logicality and creative thinking, but some lack of innovation.
Learning aims:
1.Language ability
(1). To be able to summarize and master the words, phrases, sentence patterns about personal information and hobbies and put them in use.
(2). To be able to summarize the adverbial clauses and use them in writing.
(3). To be able to understand the passages about some volunteers of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing and get information with simple reading skills.

During the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, 19,000 volunteers served in Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou competition zones. They were responsible for translation and communication, information management and pandemic prevention and so on.
In the media workshop of the National Biathlon Center, volunteer Han Zhebin's hand painted Bing Dwen Dwen Mask was welcomed by foreign journalists. Han Zhebin is from the College of Art and Design of Yanshan University. She feels very honored that she can join in the volunteer service of Winter Olympics. In the process of volunteer service, she applied the painting knowledge she learned in college to her daily volunteer service, and painted Bing Dwen Dwen on her mask and presented it to foreign journalists. Two volunteers, Chu Nan and Kang Zhengzheng, from the Red Cross Society of China Shenzhen Branch provided volunteers service in Zhangjiakou during the Olympics medical rescue training including ways to use automated external defibrillators (AEDs体外自动除颤器)to help people who suffer sudden cardiac arrest(心脏骤停). "Three years ago, there were not too many AEDs placed in public areas. Now, Zhangjiakou's main public venues are equipped with AEDs. “In addition, we spread knowledge on AEDs to around 47,000 people " Chu said, adding that they brought their experience to the Winter Olympics, while the Games also offered them valuable experience.
In the past few days, all the volunteers have worked together to ensure the success of the games. And actually, in recent years, volunteering spirit has spread among Chinese people, especially among young people. Volunteering actions are of great benefits to both society and those in need.
