Analysis of teaching material
The teaching content is Part A Let’s talk of Unit 2, which is the second lesson of this unit. It requires students to use the key sentences to ask the family members or other people. It stresses on practicing students’ listening and speaking abilities as well as cultivating their abilities of using English in the daily life.
Analysis of students
The students have learned English for more than a term, so they have basic understanding of simple English. They are quite active, curious and competitive and they show great interest in English. However, they are at different levels in English study and some of them are afraid to speak English in class.
Teaching aims
1.Language knowledge: Learn and master the key sentence patterns “Who’s that … He/She is my …”
2.Language ability: Be able to use the sentences to ask the family members or other people in the real situation.
3.Learning strategy: Learn to cooperate with others to finish the tasks together.
Key points and difficult points
Key points: Use the key sentences in the real situation.
Difficult points: Distinguish and use the pronouns “she” and “he” rightly in the context.

Teaching procedure
Step 1 Warm-up
Let’s chant: read and do action together
Purpose: Enlighten the students and get them be ready for the class.
Step 2 Review
Let’s play: Which word is missing
Purpose:Consolidate the words that have learned in the last lesson.
Step 3 Presentation
Set up a situation: Hello! Boys and girls! I’m Amy. Let’s meet some new friends today!
(1)Look and say
This is a boy. He’s from China.
This is a girl. She’s from the UK.
This is a man.He’s from Canada.
This is a woman. She’s from the USA.
Purpose: Guide students to use the pronouns “she” and “he” rightly.
(2)Know Xiao Xin’s family
Amy: Who’s that boy
Chen Jie: He’s Xiao Xin.
Amy: Xiao Xin, who’s that woman
Xiao Xin: She’s my mother.
Amy: Xiao Xin, who’s that man
Xiao Xin:He’s my father.
(Show Xiao Xin’s family tree)
Purpose:Guide students to use the sentence patterns in the real situation.
(3)Pair work: know Xiao huihui’s family
Amy: Who’s that
Xiao huihui:He’s my .
Amy:Who’s that
Xiao huihui: She’s my
Purpose: Practice students’ speaking ability.
(4)Amy and Chen Jie are good friends and Chen Jie invites Amy to her home.
1)Listen and choose.

2.Who’s that man

Purpose: Practice students’ listening ability.
2)Complete the dialogue.
3)Order the sentences.
Purpose:Strengthen students’ understanding of the dialogue and help them recite the dialogue easily.
4)Listen and imitate.
Purpose: Practice students’ speaking ability and cultivate their standard pronunciation and intonation.
5)Role play.
Purpose: Encourage students to speak English actively and cultivate their spirit of cooperation.
Step 4 Practice&Consolidation
(1)Point and say(talk about your family photo)
A: Who’s that (man/boy)
B: He’s my (father/grandfather/brother).
A: Who’s that (woman/girl)
B: She’s my (mother/grandmother/sister).
Purpose:Guide students to use the sentences to ask the family members in the real situation.
(2)Make a new dialogue.
Do Xiong introduces Tutu to his dad.
Tutu: Hi, Da Xiong.
Da Xiong: Hi, Tutu.
Tutu: Who’s that man
Da Xiong: He’s my father.
Da Xiong: Hi, dad. This is my friend, Tutu.
Dad:Nice to meet you.
Tutu: Nice to meet you, too.
Purpose:Cultivate students’ spirit of innovation and their ability of using English in the situation.
(3)Do exercises.
1)Choose the right answer.
Eg: Who’s this man ( )
A.He’s my father.
B. She’s my mother.
C. She’s my dad.
2)Find out the mistakes and correct them.
Eg: He's Amy. He she
Purpose:Help students master the key sentences and distinguish pronouns “she” and “he” better.

Discussion:What have we learned today
Step 6 Homework
(1)Follow the tape and recite the dialogue to your family.(get two stars)
(2)Draw your family photo and talk about it with your friends.(get three stars)
Purpose: Different homework serves for students of different levels and they can get formative assessment.
