Step Teacher Student Aims
Step 1: Lead in : Free talk Show some pictures of parties and ask students to say about what it is about. And then ask them to answer what kind of party they have taken part in. Look at the pictures and answer the questions. To lead in the topic - a school- leavers’ party.
Step 2: Warming up: Watch and say Ask students to look at the picture and say who he is and what he is doing. And then lead them to answer what they will say before leaving school. Show students the task of this unit. Look at the picture and answer the two questions. Know the task of the unit. To lead students to say out the theme of the unit that is to say thanks to others.
Step 3: Before reading: Guessing Ask students to look at the picture of Betty. And then show them to guess something about Betty’s speech. Have a guess of the two questions. To have a further thinking of the theme of this unit and lead students to know what a successful speech should be.
Step 4: While reading: Fast reading Ask students to divide the speech into three parts and match each part with the correct main idea. Analyze the structure about how to write a speech with students. Analyze the beginning, show what sentences we can write in it and find the key sentences structures. Match the part with its main idea and know the three parts of how to write a speech. Find the key sentences structures about how to write a beginning. To let students to know about the three parts of writing a speech and to know the key words of each part. To let students know how to write a beginning and what sentences they can use. To prepare for the writing task.
Step 5: While reading: Careful reading: Find out who & why Ask students to finish the mind map of “who”(who does Betty want to thank). And give students some key sentences structures. Ask students to finish the mind map of “why”(why does Betty want to thank them). And mention some structures that we can write for reasons. Analyze about how to write a body and an ending in a speech and show students some patterns. To finish the mind map of who and why. To find the structure about writing a body and an ending. Step 6: Post reading: further thinking Let students to discuss the note from Betty’s father and then have a further thinking of the two questions. Ask students to share the notes that they have got with us using the object clauses. And give them three notes. Review what Betty has learnt from three groups of people and ask what else she has learnt. Discuss the two questions about the note. Share the impressed note with students. Say out what Betty has learnt from them. To make students have a further thinking of the note and develop their ability of thinking. To review the usage of object clauses. To show students that the everything comes from love.
Step 7: Post reading: My story & Our story Share my story with students and point out who I want to thank and the reasons. Show the writing task to students and ask them to write a speech using the structure. Point out the evaluation. Ask students to share their speech with group partners. And then invite two students to share with all of us. Write a speech to thank others. Share the speech in the class. To share my stories to resonate their feelings. To let students to share who they want to thank and the reasons.
Step 8: Moral education Educate students wherever they go, they should always show love and express thanks bravely Remember the words. To educate students to give thanks to others around you.
