Reading 1 Help William make a robot Mum’s problems at homeskimmingMy dear son,
Congratulations! You won another flying machine competition.
I know you are always creative and imaginative. I’m so proud of you. But at the same time, I have some words from the bottom of my heart.
It’s cold winter now, everyone including you hopes to stay in bed for an extra hour. So you get up later and don’t have breakfast with me now.
Look at your bedroom, things are not in order. They’re spread everywhere. And when I return home from work, they’re still in a mess. You knock things over and don’t put them back. You never throw rubbish into dustbin. Nobody opens the window to air the room, it smells so bad!I don’t know why your computer often catches a virus. When it goes wrong, you spend all night long fixing it.
I’m not happy with these. You’re busy with your schoolwork. You’re busy with your hobbies. You’re busy with everything. I have no way out but to help you do some cleaning. And I no longer know when I should do some own things. I wonder when you yourself can make your room look as good as new.
I’m really tired. I want to make a great difference to my everyday life. I’m still that pretty woman you know. I hope to spend more time in front of my mirror trying different clothes and dressing up. In order to make my dream come true, I need your help!
Love you always.

I really understand that you do hardest work at home every day and I ‘m sorry for what I did at home. I seldom care for you and only pay attention to myself. I’m really sorry.
Yesterday, I went to the online shop to look for a right robot which can help you at home. Here are some I searched for:
*Robot shopper
If you can’t find what you want to buy in a supermarket, you may need the help of Robovie II. Developed by Japanese scientists, this robot is a good shopping helper. It can also follow you around and carry what you buy.
*Robot dancer
The 1.58-meter-tall robot HRP-4C can sing and dance. Developed by a Japanese company, HRP-4C has motors(马达) in her face and body that allow her to walk, smile and move her arms. The robot dancer can teach you to sing and dance.
*Robot teacher
Some students in South Korea have a new English teaching robot. It speaks both Korean and English. The robot teachers are helping to solve a shortage of English teachers.
*Space robot
R2, the human-like space robot, is going to the International Space Station. R2 has human-like fingers and can hold things. It will help astronauts do chores(家务) and repairs. R2 will stay in space forever.
After viewing all the homepages, I’m still not happy with the results. I want a handsome robot which can help you with housework. It will not only make my room look as good as new but also make a great difference to both of our lives. In order to make it come true, I decide to make a robot by myself. Obviously, I still need my friends’ suggestions.
Don’t worry, Mum. Things will be better soon. Love you.
