We are in the middle of December now, and for many weeks we haven’t even seen a glimpse of the sun. It’s been hidden under a thick layer of clouds. And December is a very dark time of the year even if it’s a clear sky, since we only can see the sun for about an hour above the treetops before it goes back down.
But in some way I really love this time. I love the extremes. The very dark December, and the very light June. The midnight sun and the polar night. It’s so special and magical in some way.
But today, we finally saw the light from the sun again. It was still behind clouds but it was so beautiful to just see the light and the beautiful colors in the sky. That really made my day! I flew up with my drone (无人机) so that I could take a photo of it.
It’s only in the contrasts that we can really appreciate life. We need the darkness to see the light. We need the cold to feel the warmth. We need to put ourselves in discomfort to appreciate the comfort. And every year this time I get the same deep feelings of gratitude for the light and the sun. It’s ok to live in darkness for a long time each year just to get this feeling when standing in the window and suddenly feel a little ray of sunlight hitting your face. It’s like being flushed with a wave of love. It’s like I wanna cry every time.
Our cat Nayeli must have also felt very happy about the little sunlight we got today, since she sat in the window looking out for a long time while the sun was visible.
I took the photo of my beautiful home and my village today. And I always love to see Grundtj rn from far away. It really gives you an idea of how far away we live from towns, cities and streetlights. All you can see is forest everywhere.

A.Taking a photo. B.Feeling the warmth.
C.Experiencing a polar night. D.Seeing the sunlight and beautiful clouds.

26.Which of the following best describes the life the author presents in the text
A.Depressing. B.Peaceful.
C.Colorful. D.Tireless.
27.Where can the text be found
A.In a blog. B.In a science journal.
C.In an advertisement. D.In a guidebook.

The largest sculpture in the world was built to honor the Native American Indians. The sculpture's subject was a Lakota Sioux Indian hero named Crazy Horse. Located in South Dakota's Black Hills, not far away from Mount Rush more, the Crazy Horse Monument (纪念碑) is a work in progress, first started in 1948.
Crazy Horse had a vision and was devoted to preserving the culture and traditions of his people. He died young, at the hands of an American soldier. Because of his modesty and great courage, his spirit lives on through the land and the many stories handed down through gender-at ions of the Lakota Sioux Indians.
Lakota Chief, Standing Bear, and sculptor, Korczak Ziolkowski, started the ball rolling in 1946 by choosing Thunder head Mountain as the place to create the Crazy Horse Monument. By 1948, the first explosives were detonated (引爆) to start sculpting the rock face. Much like the construction of Mount Rush more, the monument is being created in a special explosive engineering process.
Even though the sculptor died in the 1980 s, the work on the Crazy Horse Monument continues and lives on through his family. Funded through only private donations and paid tours, the sculpting process is slow but steady. There is also a museum and cultural arts center con-necked with the monument and open to the public. While the work may take many more years, the devotion to completing the Crazy Horse Monument serves to honor the life of this great fighter and his Native American people, both past and present.

A.The monument was still under construction.
B.Fewer people donated money for the sculpture.
C.A museum was built in memory of Standing Bear.
D.More cultural arts centers were opened to the public.
31.What is the best title for the text
A.A Famous Sculptor: Korczak Ziolkowski B.A Great Work; Crazy Horse Monument
C.A National Hero: Crazy Horse D.A Beautiful Area: Black Hills

More than a million tons a year of America's plastic rubbish are not ending up where they should. As many as 1, 300 plastic grocery bags per person is landing in places such as oceans and roadways, according to a new study of U. S.
In 2016, the United States generated 46.3 million tons of plastic waste, by far the most in the world. Between2.7% and 5. 3% of that was mismanaged, according to a study in Friday's journal Science Advances. “If you took nearly 2. 5 million tons of mismanaged plastic waste and dumped it on the White House lawn, it would pile as high as the Empire State Building,” said Jenna Jambeck, an environmental engineering professor.
Previous studies hadn't put the United States among the 10 worst offending nations for plastic waste in oceans. That's because the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency only tracks what goes into official parts of the waste stream such as landfills (废物填埋场) and recycling centers.
“The new study provides a more realistic view of our mismanaged waste,” said University of Toronto ecology professor Chelsea Rochman, who wasn't part of the study. “We consume a lot of plastic which then becomes plastic waste. We recycle very little of this material, which is a waste of resources.”
“A large but hard to quantify part of the problem involves the 51% of U. S. plastic waste shipped abroad for recycling to countries that routinely mismanage waste," Law said. The situation has been converting since many countries have become more limiting about taking U. S. rubbish imports. American exports of plastic waste have declined dramatically since their peak in 2016.
The government is spending billions of dollars trying to fix the problem, with modernized recycling technology and new business models to reduce waste while urging compulsory recycled content standards for new products and packaging.
“The best thing you can do environmentally is to produce no waste at all,” Jambeck said.
32.What can we know about the plastic waste in America
A.It is improperly dealt with. B.It is increasing every year.
C.It is as high as a tall building. D.It is finding its way into landfills.
33.What did former studies fail to focus on
A.How plastic waste is managed officially. B.Why all plastic waste isn't recycled.
C.When plastic waste reaches its peak. D.Where all plastic waste finally ends up
.34.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “converting” in paragraph 5
A.continuing B.changing C.existing D.affecting
35.What problem might America face concerning plastic waste
A.The lack of capital for waste management. B.The lack of modern technology.
C.The limit of waste exports. D.The seriousness of waste.

Text 10
W: OK. Good morning, everyone. Now I’m going to talk about technology and learning. First of all, let’s talk about the Internet. There’re several ways you can use it to improve your English, because you can read, listen and write. Firstly, writing practice is excellent for your learning. On the Internet there’re two places where you can write — message boards and live chat rooms. (18)Live chat rooms are great for improving your fluency, because you have to write quickly. A message board is good for both fluency and accuracy because you can think and prepare before you write. Also, the Internet is a good place to practice your listening. You should visit a good news site, such as the BBC, and watch the short videos. (19)In order to improve your listening, you have to be an active listener:make notes, try to write down the main points and try to write down new vocabulary. (20)Finally, visit the website for the textbook. There’re extra practice exercises and reading materials. It also offers learners special message boards. OK. That’s all for today. Thank you for listening.

Dear Tom.
We haven’t seen each other for a long time, so I am writing to invite you to spend the weekend with us on June 10th.
My home is located at Zhongshan Road near the city library. You can take Bus No. 1 in front of your school to get here. To have an interesting get-together, I will arrange some activities for us to enjoy. We’ll have a table tennis match in the morning because I know you love this game. In the afternoon we’ll have some Chinese tea and then I’ll show you how to make dumplings.
I hope you can accept my invitation. I promise you will have a good time at my home. Please reply to me at your earliest convenience.
Yours,
Li Hua
