【答案】Dear Mr. Smith,
I’m Li Hua, a student from Class 1, Grade 2. I’m writing to thank you for returning my schoolbag.
Last Sunday I left my schoolbag in the reading-room owing to my carelessness. I was worried because my student ID card, wallet and some documents were all in it, which were very important to me. Just as I was at a loss, I was informed that my schoolbag was at the school’s Lost and Found and it was you who had found my schoolbag. My excitement was truly beyond description at that moment!
Please accept my cordial thanks for your help.
Yours,
Li Hua
【答案】Para 1:
Instead of burying myself in my phone, I focused on something else: my surroundings. I let the noise of the wilderness wash over me, animals and bugs creating a ruckus that was both loud and serene at the same time. My anger turned to peace, then little interest and, finally, excitement. Standing on the high campsite, I felt the weight of stress melt from my shoulders as I viewed the vast expanse that unfolded below me. The sight that met my startled eyes nearly took my breath away. For the first time, I thought camping in a place that had no cell service might not be so bad.
Para 2:
The next four days passed in a flash with many fun activities. I hiked. I swam. I fished. My dad and I learned how to start a fire together after several false starts. We cooked together and I ate the sweetest marshmallows I had ever tasted. Dad told me stories of his life, stories I had never heard or perhaps I hadn’t been listening. When the weekend came to an end, I realized I hadn’t thought of my phone once. I hadn’t felt the need to be connected to anywhere else. It dawned on me that what mattered most were the moments I was sharing with just my father and nature.

The STAR Eco Station is an environmental science museum, a wildlife rescue center, and a shelter
for endangered and illegally-traded foreign animals confiscated (没收)by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service. It carries out the mission “Preservation through Education ”by educating visitors about the
preservation of the environment and the inter-dependence of all living things.
Field trips
STAR Eco Station hosts field trips for schools and camps throughout Southern California. Each
field trip lasts two hours, consisting of a one-hour gathering and a one-hour tour of the facility, with
lessons associated with California State Science Standards.
Throughout the field trip, students learn about the latest developments in environmental protection
and the ways in which wildlife interacts with various ecosystems. The students also receive an up-close
and hands-on experience with our rescued foreign wildlife. The tour includes different environmental
exhibits that showcase the ways students can help protect animals in the wild.
Field trips are offered on weekdays only, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. or 12 p.m.-2 p.m. The rate is $6 per
visitor, both child and adult, with a $120 minimum. We offer one free adult per 10 children for groups of
40 or more. Maximum capacity is 120 people per field trip.
Public tours
Guided tours of the STAR Eco Station introduce visitors to over two hundred rescued foreign
wildlife. Each tour is led by an Eco Station staff member, and features fun animal facts, hands-on
animal encounters, surprising rescue stories, environmental exhibits, and original approaches to going
green. Visitors may only see the animals on a guided tour, for both your safety and the safety of our
animals.
The guided tour lasts approximately 45-60 minutes. Visitors are served on a first-come, first-served
basis. No reservations are required. However, tours may sell out. We suggest larger groups schedule a
private tour.

Skateboarding has been my life since I was eight years old. Before I knew how to stand up, I
would sit on my cousin's old board and roll down the hills of Caceres, my hometown in Spain. When I
was at university, I heard about Skate-Aid, an organization that builds skate parks for children in
disadvantaged communities. I've always wanted to make a positive impact on the world, and if there
was a way to do that through skateboarding, I was in.
Every project was different. In Rwanda and Kenya, I worked with orphans and children from very
poor backgrounds. In Namibia, I taught kids who were visually impaired. Part of the reason
skateboarding is good for kids psychologically is that it is challenging. If you want to learn a new trick,
you have to practice. And if you persevere, you'll get there.
The latest project was in Qudsaya, Syria. As we reached the city, the scars from wars were
everywhere. And the area where we were building the skatepark had been largely destroyed, except for
a small concrete structure where a family of four was living. The mother was so welcoming, bringing us
tea and coffee every morning before she even knew why we were there.
It took our group 28 days to build the park. Most people didn't understand what we were doing at
first — this was going to be Syria's first skatepark. But once we showed them videos of our other
projects, they wanted to help.
We stayed in a house close to the park, and on the walk home from work we would buy something
from nearby shops. Someone would always start speaking to us in French, Italian or German, because
many locals had family abroad. The first time we went in, they wouldn't let us pay. No tourists had been
to the city in years and they were grateful we were there.
The kids nearby would watch us skating down the street and were so excited. When we finished
the park, I put them on a board one by one and they were amazed by the feeling of rolling along.
We stayed for two months, and then local volunteers took over. When we left, there were 400
children involved, going to the park every day. Now I still keep in touch with the kids on Facebook and
they send me videos of the tricks they've learned. I’ve been to so many countries, but Syria is special.
I’ll go back if I get a chance.
24. According to the text, what may Skate-Aid aim to
A. discover new skateboarding talent B. promote skateboarding in poor areas
C. raise money for skateboarding lovers D. help improve players’ skateboarding skills
25. What were the people the author met in Qudsaya like
A. Rude and ignorant. B. Lazy and aggressive.
C. Polite and intelligent. D. Friendly and generous.
26. What did the author do after finishing building the skatepark
A. He shot videos of local kids. B. He left the country immediately.
C. He visited other cities of the country. D. He taught local kids how to skateboard.
高二英语月考试题 第 4页共 10 页
27. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Helping victims of wars in Syria B. Inspiring kids with skateboarding
C. Building the first skatepark in Syria D. Working with Skate-Aid around the world

Let’s be real: apologizing can be difficult. Nobody likes to admit that they were wrong, or that they
offended somebody. However, you still have agreed-upon ways to acknowledge that you did something
wrong and to express your remorse to others. When you have harmed someone, a genuine, well-given
apology demonstrates that you care about them, allows you to take responsibility for your actions,
rebuilds trust, and prevents the further deterioration of relationships. It can also help you avoid the
shame and guilt of wronging someone from eating away at your self-esteem.
A proper apology should express your understanding that you've done something wrong. Telling
somebody “I'm sorry you feel that way!” is not an adequate apology. You should also be aware of over
apologizing; it can have negative effects, too. So try to make an effective apology when the situation
calls for one.
As Professor Karen A. Cerulo from the University of New Jersey explained, an effective apology
has several elements. Number one: don't wait. Forget your ego. Unless you're involved in a legal
situation, where you're advised not to speak, you should make an apology right away. Second, don't
apologize for what people thought. Instead of saying, “I’m sorry that you misunderstood me!” or “I'm
sorry that you misinterpreted or misread my actions!”, apologize for what you did—not for what other
people might have thought about it. Third, don't give context. The “why” of what you did is less
important to people than your regret and remorse. Finally, there's really a successful formula that you
need to use: identify your victim right up front, then express remorse, and, if possible, make restitution.
Dr. Ben Ho, an associate professor of economics at Vasser College, says that people often want to
see an apology that costs something. This cost doesn't have to be financial; it can come in the form of
admitting your incompetence in making the previous error or promising to do better in the future.
As for promises, avoid the ones that can't be kept. Don't say that you’ll ensure that this will not
happen again if you not confident it won't. It could come back to bite you, Martin Stone of Public
Relation agency Tank explains. And do remember that the use of "but” can hugely change the tone of an
apology. As Stone points out, “I'm sorry but …” sounds like you are making excuses and aren't actually
taking any form of responsibility.
28. What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A. To tell you not to harm others. B. To persuade you to make apologies.
C. To remind you to reflect on your behaviors.
D. To advise you to improve relationships with others.
29. What should a good apology be like
A. As formal as possible. B. As positive as possible.
C. Neither serious nor forced D. Neither inadequate nor superabundant.
30. On what condition does Cerulo advise people not to apologize quickly
A. When people misunderstand you. B. When you are held legally responsible.
C. When you are forced to do something wrong.

D. When you don't know whom you have harmed.
31. What does the underlined word refer to
A. A previous error. B. A weak apology.

Artificial light should be treated like other forms of pollution, research says. Human illumination
(照明) of the planet is growing in range and intensity by about 2% a year, creating a problem that can be
compared to climate change, according to a team of biologists from the University of Exeter. Hormone
levels, breeding cycles, activity patterns and vulnerability to predators are being affected across a broad
range of species, they write in a paper published in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution.
From reduced pollination (授粉) by insects and trees budding earlier in spring, to seabirds flying
into lighthouses and sea turtles mistakenly wandering inland to bright hotels in search of the dawn sun,
their study brings together 126 previous papers to assess the extent of the impact.
In all the species examined, they found reduced levels of melatonin — a hormone that regulates
sleep cycles — as a result of artificial light at night. Rodents (啮齿动物), which mostly search for food
at night, were active for a shorter duration, while birds started singing and searching for worms earlier
in the day. However, the outcomes were not purely negative. Owing to night-time light, some plants
grew faster and some types of bats thrived. But the overall effect was disruptive, particularly to the
insects drawn to hot bulbs or fast-moving car lamps.
“What stands out is how ubiquitous the effects are. The effects are found on microbes,
invertebrates (无脊柱动物), animals and plants,” said the lead author, Kevin Gaston, a professor at the
university's Environment and Sustainability Institute. “We need to start thinking about lighting in the
way we think of other big systemic pressures like climate change.”
According to Gaston, there has been an increase in studies in the past five to ten years as the
amount of lighting in the world has increased and the effects have become more evident. Satellite
images of the Earth at night show how rapidly the problem is expanding geographically, and lights are
also becoming more intense as expensive bulbs with yellow light are replaced by greater numbers of
cheap bright white LEDs. This is biologically problematic because the white light has a wider spectrum,
like sunlight.
Gaston urged governments, companies and individuals to be more discriminating. “At the moment,
we just take lighting for granted. But we need to think in terms of using it only when we need it, where
we need it and how we need it,” he said. “It is another pollutant.”
Unlike the climate crisis, however, he said solving the lighting problem would save rather than cost
money. If people use fewer lights, it would mean lower costs, less electricity and lower emissions.
“At the heart of this is a deep-rooted human need to light up the night. We are still in a sense afraid
of the dark,” he said. “But the ability to turn the night-time into something like the daytime is something
we have pursued for beyond the necessity of doing so.”
32. Why is artificial light a pollutant according to the biologists
A. It has a serious impact on nature.
B. It shortens the growing time of plants.
高二英语月考试题 第 6页共 10 页
C. It contributes to other forms of pollution.
D. It threatens the existence of human beings.
33. What did the biologists find about artificial light
A. It can be used to act as the dawn sun.
B. It can regulate the sleep cycles of animals.
C. It can prevent all species developing properly.
D. It can disturb behavior patterns in some species.
34. What does the underlined word "ubiquitous” mean
A. Normal. B. Common C. Ordinary. D. Special.
35. How did Kevin Gaston feel about solving the lighting problem
A. It is worth the cost. B. It is time-consuming.
C. It requires a change of attitude. D. It needs to be discussed globally.

skin; wearing clean clothes, and so on—can help you build a positive body image.

A couple of months before I started high school, my parents gave me the greatest gift any teenage
boy could ask for: a cellphone. I lived on that phone all summer with my face buried in its screen. I
ignored my family and my surroundings . Being connected was more important than being present.
So, you can imagine my displeasure when I learned what my dad had planned for our family

vacation that year. “This year,” my dad said, “we’ll be doing something special. We’re going camping!”
His excitement was met with a disappointed sigh . It wasn’t my dream vacation because mind was on
my phone. I was so buried in the screen, in fact, that the first time I can remember truly looking up was
when we drove across a bridge on the way to our campsite.
I stared out the window and saw redwoods towering above us, their branches threatening to pierce
(刺破) the blue sky. I saw a roaring river, with slivers of silky black water appearing between crashing
white rapids. The air blowing into the car from the open windows was hot. But none of that mattered to
me. The reason I had looked up was for something far more serious: my phone no longer had service.
The last hour of the drive was increasingly tense. My dad announced that he had chosen a campsite
that had no cell service, and that my phone would be useless until we returned home. I would be trapped
in the forest for four days with no way to contact the outside world! I went through the full cycle of
teenage emotions during the first day of the trip. I raged . I bargained. I begged. I flip-flopped from a
depressive state to anger and back.
I went to bed angrily that night. But when I awoke in the morning, something had changed.
