【辨析】win与beat/defeat
①win作及物动词时,意为“赢得;获得”,它的宾语往往是奖品、奖学金、名誉、财产、战争或运动等。但不能跟表示人的词作宾语。例:He won the first prize.他获得了一等奖。
②beat/defeat作动词,意为“击败;打败”,其宾语为参加比赛的组织、团体或个人等。例:We beat their team by 5∶4.我们以五比四战胜他们队。

(1)The five rings stand for the five continents united together.
stand for代表,象征,意味着。它多指代表某种抽象含义或指用字母、数字或符号来表示一个单词、名字或是某种概念的缩写的形式。例:NBA stands for National Basketball Association. NBA代表(美国)国家篮球协会。
(2)形容词和副词的比较等级:
比较级
当两个人或物进行比较时,形容词和副词要用比较级,其后常用than来连接被比较的人或物。例:Sue runs faster than Jim.苏比吉姆跑得快。
最高级
当三个或三个以上的人或物进行比较的时候,形容词和副词要用最高级。最高级后常用of或in短语来表示比较的范围。形容词最高级前一定要加the,而副词最高级前the可以省略。例:Liu Li studies (the) hardest in our class.刘丽是我们班上学习最努力的人。
形容词和副词比较级、最高级的变化规则:
分类情况 规则 例词

以 “辅音字母+y” 结尾的词 把y变为i,再加-er或-est heavier,heaviest

多音节词和部分双音节词 在词前加more或most more popular,most popular
特殊结构:
①“as+原级+as” 表示 “与……一样……”; “not as/so+原级+as” 表示 “……不及……”。例:Math is as interesting as English.数学和英语一样有趣。
②“比较级+and+比较级” 表示 “越来越……”; “the + 比较级,the + 比较级” 表示 “越……,越……”。
③“one of the+形容词最高级+可数名词复数” 表示 “……中最……之一”。
注意事项:
①比较级前面可以用 much、far、even、still、a lot、a little、a bit等词(组)来修饰,表示程度。
②最高级通常可以和比较级进行互换。例:He is the tallest student in his class.=He is taller than any other student/the other students in his class.他是班里最高的学生。
