Love is fair. Parents love us and do a lot of things for us. We should also love them and do some things that we can do for them, such as doing a little housework.

Step 1. Leading in—free talk
To create a relaxing atmosphere and narrow the distance with the students.
Step 2. Background knowledge
Introduce the Sunday Mail magazine that is a famous magazine in Australia. In western countries, the common people’s opinions on some news or important topics will be published in some magazines. The two letters we will learn are common parents’ opinions about kids’ doing chores at home.
Step 3. New words and phrases learning
To cultivate the students’ self-study ability by learning them by themselves.
Step 4. Skimming
Task 1. Read the 2 letters quickly and circle agrees or disagrees. Without telling them the reading skill directly, I ask them to find the sentences that help them get the answers. The aim is to improve an inquiry learning environment.
Step 5. Scanning
Task 2. Scan the first letter and answer the question. Why shouldn’t kids do chores at home
Before doing it, I give them the tip, scanning, which is more difficult than skimming, to let them read more efficiently.
Step 6. Construction
It is important and useful to know the construction of the passage. It is helpful for the reading and writing. So I lead them to know the common structure of the passage. Learn it and use it to read the second letter.

Summarize the main ideas of these two parents. Everything has two sides. Lead them to see things from different points of view.

Mother’s Day is coming. It is on the second Sunday of May. Lead them to love parents by showing a short video which is about a busy mother and his sweet son. After learning the passage and watching the video, show a letter to my mother.
