一、when &while
1. when引导的时间状语从时表示“当……的时候”,它既可以指时间段也可以指时间点。从句中既可以用延续性动词,也可以用非延续性动词,且动作既可以和主句的动作同时发生,又可在主句的动作之前或之后发生。
e.g.: John called me when I was doing my homework.
2. while引导时间状语从句时表示“在……期间”,它强调主句的动作与从句的动作同时持续地进行或主句动作是在从句动作发生期间发生的。while引导的时间状语从句中的谓语动词必须是延续性动词。

二、before & after
before引导时间状语从句时表示主句的动作发生在从句动作之前,after引导时间状语从句时表示主句的动作发生在从句动作之后。
e.g.: You must close the windows before you leave the room.
I’ll play outside after I finish my homework.
三、as, as soon as, not... until, until
as 指同时发生。
e.g.: It’s getting warmer and warmer as spring comes.

Tips
as soon as, 表示主句的动作紧接着从句的动作而发生。如:I will give him the message as soon as I see him. (我一看到他,就告诉他这个消息。)
“not … until…” 与“until”:前者表示“直到……才……”,指主句的动作在从句所表示的时间才开始,谓语一般用非延续性动词;而后者则表示主句的动作在从句所表示的时间之前就开始,并且一直持续到该时间为止,其谓语一般用持续性动词。
“主将从现”:即主句用一般将来时态,从句只能用一般现在时。
从句的位置: 时间状语从句放在主句之前或之后均可。但在主句之前时,应用逗号与主句分开。

在由 when, while, after, before等引导的时间状语从句中,
从句的主语和主句的主语相同时,可以用
“连词 + 动词 ing” 的形式替代该状语从句。
