Thanksgiving was just around the corner. The menu had been set. The shopping list was made. Everything seemed perfect. I could taste my favorite food—turkey and mashed potatoes. Pictures of different pies, fruit and vegetables came into my mind. I couldn't wait!
The day before Thanksgiving my dad called a family meeting. He said we needed to practice being thankful. To my surprise, my father said that we were going to help out at a homeless shelter (收容所) on Thanksgiving Day. So we wouldn't cook our own Thanksgiving dinner. The holiday wouldn't be the same. I thought the day would be awful.
The next morning, we got up early. I followed my father to the shelter with my sleepy eyes. I had no great expectations and felt down all the way. As soon as we arrived, we got to work. There was so much to be done. But all I could think about was the dinner I couldn't enjoy.
However, those thoughts soon disappeared. Over the next few hours, I watched hundreds of people come through the shelter. For some, this was the only hot meal they would eat that week. For others, it was the first time to eat a Thanksgiving meal. The shelter was filled with joy.
Through this experience, I learned that Thanksgiving is a time to think about your blessings (祝福) and look for ways to bless others. When I gave up what I had wanted, I discovered how much I had. It was much better to give than to receive. In the end, that Thanksgiving became an unforgettable experience.

C) People in Australia began to celebrate Mother's Day in the 1920s. A woman called Janet Heyden started the tradition of giving presents to moms. When she visited a patient in hospital one day, Heyden decided to do something for those lonely women there. Many of them had lost their loved ones. Heyden called on people to give presents to women like them. Later she came up with the idea of celebrating Mother's Day. Today, of course, a present for Mom is just a natural thing. On the second Sunday of May, people around the country will spend time expressing love to their mothers. Flowers, cards and clothes are common Mother's Day gifts. My Favorite Chinese Festival
As we all know, there are many traditional festivals in China. Among them, I like the Spring Festival best.
It comes in January or February. It is a time for family members to get together. On the eve of the Spring Festival, all family members enjoy different kinds of food, such as dumplings and fish. We also watch the Spring Festival Gala and stay up late, hoping to have a new start in the following year.
The Spring Festival can not only make us feel love and happiness, but also the importance of home and family.
