In Britain you may often hear “Drop in any time” or “Come to see me soon”, but you can't really do that. People just say those things to make you feel welcome. It is better to telephone before visiting someone at home. If you receive a written invitation to an event that says “RSVP”, you should reply to let the person who sent the invitation know whether or not you plan to go.
You should never accept an invitation unless you really plan to go. You may refuse by saying, “Thank you for inviting me, but I will not be able to come. ” If, after accepting, you are unable to go, be sure to tell those who are expecting you as soon as possible that you will not be there.
Though it is not necessarily expected that you give a gift to your host, it is considered polite to do so, especially if you have been invited for a meal. Flowers, chocolate, or a small gift are all appropriate (合适的) . A thank you note or telephone call after the visit is also considered polite and is an appropriate way to express your appreciation for the invitation.
( ) 58. What can you do when a British friend says, “Drop in any time”
A. Visit him or her at any time.
B. Say no time to him or her seriously.
C. Visit him or her soon.
D. Telephone him or her before visiting.
( ) 59. What should you do if your British friend sends you an invitation but you
do not want to go
A. Do not give him or her an answer.
B. Tell another friend to go instead of you.
C. Tell him or her that you can't be there for some reason.
D. Tell him or her that you don't want to go there.
( ) 60. Which of the following is considered impolite in Britain
A. Refuse the invitation without telling anyone.
B. Buy small presents when invited.
C. Write a thank you note after a visit.
D. Give a telephone call after a visit.

What are the basic ingredients(要素) of good manners A strong sense of fairness is one of them.
A friend once told me an experience that he had. When he was driving along a one lane(单行小路) , unpaved(未铺路的) mountain road, the car ahead of his produced clouds of choking dust(呛人的尘土) , and it was a long way to the nearest paved main road. Suddenly, the car ahead stopped at a wider place on the road. My friend thought there must be something wrong with the car ahead. He stopped and asked if anything was wrong. “No, ” said the other driver.
“But you've endured(容忍) my dust so far. I'll endure yours the rest of the way. ”
Another ingredient is empathy(同情心) . It makes a person see into the mind or heart of someone else. Recently I happened to read such a story in a book.
A man was having dinner alone, and he was trying to open a bottle. But he failed. Then he asked a waiter for help. The waiter took the bottle, turned his back and opened it without difficulty. Then the waiter closed it again and turned back. He pretended(假装) to make a great effort to open the bottle without success. Finally he took it into the kitchen and returned very soon. He told the man that he managed to open it, but only with a tool.
Yet another ingredient is the ability to treat people alike(一视同仁) . No matter who he is and what he does, everyone is worth respecting.
( ) 61. Why did the driver in the car ahead stop
A. To repair the car. B. To have a rest.
C. To ask the way. D. To let the back car go.
( ) 62. How did the waiter open the bottle
A. By himself easily. B. By using a knife.
C. By asking his partner for help. D. We don't know.
( ) 63. Where may the second story happen
A. In the kitchen at home. B. On the main road.
C. In the restaurant. D. On the busy street.
( ) 64. What's the best title of the passage
A. The Ability to Solve Problems
B. The Ways to Help Others
C. The Good Manners to Treat Others
D. The Empathy for Strangers

We all have to ask for favors (帮忙) sometimes. But it can be a difficult thing to do—even when you ask a good friend. So how can you ask for a favor and be sure to get a positive response (正面回应) Here are some suggestions.
▲
When you ask someone for a favor, you're really asking the person to go out of his or her way to help you. Show the person that you understand he or she is doing something especially nice for you. If people think you're friendly, they're more likely to want to help. Thank them sincerely when they help you. And, of course, a smile goes a long way.
Choose your words carefully.
How do people respond to requests like this one: “Hey, Mike, lend me your car!” They probably refuse. How can you avoid this problem Choose your words carefully! For example, say, “Mike, would you mind doing me a favor ” Mike will probably respond like this: “Maybe. What do you need ” Now you have his attention and can explain the situation. People are more likely to agree to help you when they know the whole story.
Show your respect.
If someone agrees to do you a favor, allow the person to choose when he or she helps you. Be respectful(尊重的) of the other person's time, and try not to ask for too much. If someone refuses your request, you should accept the answer politely. Don't make a habit of asking for favors, and always make sure you're ready to do someone a favor in return.

If we want to grow as people, we can't just depend on our own evaluation (评价) of how we're doing. We also need to know what other people think about our performance. Receiving feedback (反馈) from others can help us see the larger picture and show us a way forward to success. However, someone has to give that feedback, and sometimes, that someone will be you. How should you deal with this
First things first—if you notice a situation in which some feedback would be helpful, give it as soon as you can. If you wait until the matter disappears from the person's mind, he might not understand what you're trying to tell him. Take the person to a safe, comfortable place and offer your advice in private.
When you're giving feedback, it's important to keep in mind that no one likes to be told they're doing a bad job. Make sure you give an equal (相等的) amount of good feedback to balance out (平衡) anything bad. Like the saying goes, “A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. ”
All good feedback shares something in common. First, it should help achieve a goal. It's less useful to tell your friends that their dish tastes “interesting” than it is to suggest adding a little salt. Feedback should also look toward the future. You can't change what's already happened, but you can prevent it from happening again. Tell your friends they should take more notes in class instead of talking about how they should have studied harder for the big history exam they failed.
Finally, don't think your suggestion is the only correct way to deal with a situation. You might even end up with some feedback on your feedback. Don't take it personally — it can only help you give better advice next time
( ) 69. What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 1 probably mean
A. Seeing the picture. B. Giving feedback.
C. Receiving feedback.
D. Showing a way to success.
( ) 70. Why is it important to give feedback in time according to Paragraph 2
A. You might forget to tell the person later on.
B. Perhaps the person wants the feedback right away.
C. Maybe the person needs time to understand your advice.
D. If you wait too long, the person might forget what's happened.
( ) 71. What can we infer (推断) from the underlined saying in Paragraph 3
A. It's helpful to keep on giving bad feedback.
B. It's difficult to do a good job all the time.
C. It's better to balance good and bad feedback.
D. It's important to think twice before giving feedback.
( ) 72. What's the main idea of the passage
A. What characters good feedback includes.
B. How people should give feedback properly.
C. The differences between good and bad feedback.
D. The importance of giving and receiving feedback.

Few words are spoken more often every day on the streets of Britain than “I'm sorry”. This expression has become such a common response (反应) that it has taken on a lot of meanings.
Saying “Sorry” means to apologize(道歉) . ________73We learn it both as a native speaker and as a student of foreign languages.
________74 It is a cultural expression. Imagine this: a man walks down the street, looking down at his phone. A woman is walking in the opposite direction, towards the man. She sees him, but she can't get out of the way in time. The man bumps (碰撞) into the woman. ________75 Naturally, the man should say sorry, because it was he who wasn't looking where he was going. Yet in Britain, it is common for both to apologize.
It is known that British people, like most people, do not enjoy conflict (冲突) . ________76
Other times it may sound funny to hear “sorry”. Some of my friends say it at restaurants, as they ask the waiter, “Sorry, but can I order another drink ”________77 In Britain, sorry doesn't always mean exactly what you think.
A. It just means that we need the waiter. B. Who should say sorry at this situation C. This is simple and easy to understand. D. But in Britain, it takes on another meaning. E. It's not an easy thing for us to apologize to each other. F. The best way to solve the problem is to say sorry to others. G. So British people will apologize to each other to calm the situation.

They can also challenge the longest rides in the world. For children, they can experience interesting climbing programs and watch wonderful 5D theater shows. Dear sir,
My family is planning a holiday to your city. I got some information about your hotel, but I still have some questions to ask. Would you be kind enough to reply to my e mail
We are arriving in your city on October 1st. And we plan to stay in your hotel for 5 days. Would you tell me how far your hotel is from the airport And we'd like to know how we can get to your hotel. Also, we wonder whether you offer a free breakfast. Last but not least, would you mind telling us whether there is a discount for a long stay
Thanks for your time. I'm looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Lucy
