Naomi Cooke was walking with a friend and their dogs through her local park in Burnside, on Tuesday when she heard someone shout to watch out. Cooke turned and hardly had time to react before a flying disc(飞盘) hit her in the face with a “big bang”, leaving her right cheek swollen almost to the size of a golf ball.
Two men playing disc golf at the course in Jellie Park were about 20 metres from the pair when one of them threw the disc hard, aiming for a nearby goal.
After being hit Cooke immediately went to the emergency department, where two CT scans on her face and cheek found she had escaped any broken bones. “I’m lucky it didn’t hit my eye because I think I would have lost it.”Cooke said.
Cooke often walks her dog at the park and said it was always busy with people playing disc golf, but it was not until after Tuesday that she became concerned about public safety there.
There were no signs about the disc golf course in the park, she said, and the area is shared with children and people walking their dogs.
“If it had hit one of the kids in the head, it could have killed them.”Cooke did not think she was the only person who had been hit before, and said there would be others who share her concerns.
Cooke planned to go to the council(议会), saying it needed to realise how dangerous it was for the space to be shared by everyone and to provide disc golfers with a space where they can play safely.“There should be rules about how it’s done, making it safe for everyone.”
24. What happened to Cooke on Tuesday
A. She was struck by a golf ball. B. She was hit by a flying disc.

A. Cooke and her friend. B. Cooke and her dog.

26. How did Cooke feel about people playing disc golf in the park
A. Acceptable. B. Shocked. C. Angry. D. Worried.
27. Why did Cooke plan to go to the council

C. To ask for personal protection. D. To call for safer places for disc golf.

My little cousin is already three years old. Last week, when I was shopping with my aunt, 1 suggested she buy some wordless books for him. She refused and said wordless books were useless. If you also think so, then you're wrong.
Anyone who has “read” a picture book can tell you that you don't need words to tell a story. Preschoolers(学前儿童)can follow a story told in pictures. And even though kids aren't reading words, it turns out that wordless books can help them develop important skills. Here are some reasons why little kids should read wordless books.
Through reading wordless books, young kids and preschoolers can learn how a book works: from front to back, left to right, and top to bottom. Following a story helps kids understand the structure of storytelling: cause and effect, conflict(冲突)and resolution, character development and a narrative(叙述的)way with a beginning, middle and end.
kids can hear many new words. They can also learn to recognize objects, people, places, animals and actions and tell a story based on pictures. This helps kids have a larger vocabulary and connect pictures with things they see.
Reading wordless books helps kids obtain confidence. A young kid or preschooler is proud to have finished a favorite book and have understood the whole story from start to finish without adults' help. When they're proud of themselves, they become more confident.
Reading wordless stories helps little kids develop a love of books. Wordless book can be enjoyed by little kids. After they find the pleasure in reading, they'll fall in love with reading.
Wordless books can be enjoyed by all little kids. Books without text are great for kids who speak different languages, are learning English, or have developmental or learning difficulties that make reading words challenging.
28.The author's aunt refused to buy wordless books because .
A. her son didn't like reading B. she considered such books useless
C. there're too many books at her home D. her son was too old to read such books
29.According to Paragraph 3, through reading wordless books, kids can .
A. learn to explain pictures with help B. learn about how to read stories
C. learn how to think on their own D. know what forms a book or a story
30.What does the underlined word “obtain” in Paragraph 5 mean
A. Get. B. Use. C. Show. D. Expect.
31.What is the text mainly about
A. Why there are wordless books. B. Why kids love reading wordless books.
C. Why reading wordless books helps kids. D. Why people should read wordless books.
D
It's clear that hiking-and any other physical activity-can reduce stress and anxiety. But there's something about being in nature that may expand those effects. Scientists are beginning to find evidence that being in nature greatly influences our brains and our behavior, helping us to reduce anxiety and stress, and increasing our creativity and our ability to connect with other people.
In a recent experiment in Japan, participants were asked to walk either in a forest or in a city center (taking walks of equal length and difficulty) while having their heart rate variability(可变性), heart rate and blood pressure measured. The participants also filled out questionnaires(问卷)about their moods, stress levels and other psychological(心理的)measures.
Results showed that those who walked in forests had apparently(明显地)lower heart rates and higher heart rate variability, indicating(显示)more relaxation and less stress, and reported better moods and less anxiety, than those who walked in city settings. The researchers concluded that there's something about being in nature that has a helpful effect on stress reduction, above and beyond what exercise alone might have produced.
In another study, researchers in Finland found that city people who walked for as little as 20 minutes through a city park or woodland reported more stress relief than those who walked in a city center. The reasons for this effect are unclear, but scientists believe that we evolve(进化)to be more relaxed in natural spaces.
These studies provide evidence that being in natural spaces-or even just looking out of a window onto a natural scene-somehow helps us become calm and relieves(缓解)stress.
32. What does the underlined word "expand" in Paragraph 1 probably mean
A. Increase. B. Reduce. C. Spread. D. Improve.
33. How did the researchers in Japan make their discovery
A. By studying a previous report. B. By doing experiments in the lab.
C. By experimenting and comparing results. D. By studying examples and their causes.
34. What is the best way to reduce stress according to the text
A. Doing exercise in the gym. B. Walking in a city park.
C. Wandering along city streets. D. Watching a classic movie.
35. What does the text mainly want to tell us
A. Stress comes from city settings. B. Being in nature can reduce stress.
C. Why nature can relieve our stress. D. How we are affected by natural scenes.

Money Matters
Parents should help their children understand money. 36 So you may start talking about money when your child shows an interest in buying things, candy or toys, for example.
1. The basic function of money
Begin explaining the basic function of money by showing how people trade money for goods or services. It is important to show your child how money is traded for the things he wants to have. If he wants to have a toy, give him the money and let him hand the money to the cashier(收银员). 37 When your child grows a bit older and understands the basic function of money, you can start explaining more complex ways of using money.
2. Money lessons
Approach money lessons with openness and honesty. 38 If you must say no to a child‘s request to spend money, explain, ― You have enough toy trucks for now. Or, if the request is for many different things, say, ― You have to make a choice between this toy and that toy.
3. 39
Begin at the grocery store. Pick out two similar brands of a product--- a name-brand butter and a generic (无商标产品),for example. You can show your child how to make choices between different brands of a product so that you can save money. 40 If he chooses the cheaper brand, allow him to make another purchase with the money saved. Later, you may explain how the more expensive choice leaves less money for other purchases.
A. Wise decisions
B. The value of money
C. Permit the child to choose between them.
D. Tell your child why he can –or cannot --- have certain things.
E. Ask yourself what things that cost money are most important to you
F. Talk about how the money bought the thing after you leave the toy store.
G. The best time to teach a child anything about money is when he shows an interest.
