I lost my mom last month and it’s been really tough. You don’t expect to lose a parent until it’s their time or until you’ve at least given them a grandchild. Needless to say, February was not my favorite month.
I flew to my hometown to express my respects and say my goodbyes. After spending a few days with my family making arrangements and taking care of a few things, it was time to head back. I boarded the plane to find a young man sitting in my seat. Usually it’s not a big deal to me, but I really wanted that window seat so I could just wear my headphones to sleep.
He obliged kindly when I asked him to move, all the while I was apologizing profusely. After the doors were closed and we began to taxi to the runway, the emotions began to hit. Something about leaving the place I grew up and knowing that my mom was no longer there just crushed me. As I watched the ground grown more and more distant out the window, my vision became blurry as my eyes were filled with tears. As I wiped them away, I felt a tap on my elbow. That same young man was checking on me. He asked me if I was OK and I said something along the lines of having to say goodbye to someone who I really loved. Without hesitating, he said he was there if I needed to talk. After all, we had a three-hour flight sitting in the same row.
I assured him that I wasn’t ready to talk, but that his words had made me feel better. Honestly, I felt seen. I felt like I wasn’t alone on that plane traveling hundreds of miles across the country. Although I never took him up on his offer, I was touched that a stranger knew that I may need someone in that moment.

As teenagers, we’d like to succeed in our everyday life, in my opinion, at first we should have our own confidence, which is very necessary for us. Self confidence (自信)is the answer to success, or we can say the most important step to success. If a person has confidence in himself, he has already won half the battle. Those people who seem to be self confident at work, school, and also in their daily life constantly appear on top of the world in every given task. Everything seems to go correctly for these people and they always seem to present themselves as peaceful, calm and victorious in everything they do.
If you pay a little attention, you might become aware of that these self confident people generally are successful in each area of their lives. Have you ever wondered ‘why ’, that is because self confident people realize the impact of believing in themselves and relying on their own abilities. They talk so confidently that they make you believe they are correct and make you agree with their point of view. A confident person seems to be more aware and educated even if he knows a little about the subject. However, a person who is learned but lacking confidence might fail in making you agree with the same.
This confidence finally creates opportunities for success and with each fresh success; another self confidence building block is put into position. Success builds up your self confidence with each new accomplishment. Self confident people recognize themselves as able to attain those things they set out to do and this recognition creates reality in their lives.
28. What does the author tell us in the first paragraph
A. Self-confidence is the key to success.
B. Success depends on self-confidence.
C. Success isn’t concerned with confidence.
D. Self-confidence has nothing to do with failure.
29. Why will confident people be successful
A. Because they have good education.
B. Because they work hard in their lives.
C. Because they have their own point of view.
D. Because they trust themselves and have abilities.

A. He will fail in work and life B. He will go on working hard
C. He will become frustrated D. He will dislike others
31. What does the author suggest in the last paragraph
A. The relationship of both success and confidence
B. The effect on recognition and reality
C. The reason for success and chances
D. The cause of success and confidence
D
More Americans say they are on a special diet compared with Americans about 10 years ago. That information comes from a report released this week by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC. The increased dieting comes at a time when obesity levels continue to rise. The CDC report found that 17 percent of Americans said they were on diets in 2017-2018 — up from 14 percent about 10 years earlier. Over the same period, obesity levels increased in the U.S. to 42 percent — up from 34 percent.
Dana Hunnes is a professor of public health and nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles. Hunnes said that the number of Americans who said that they are on a diet is lower than expected. This is because diet-related diseases are very common in the country. The report noted that about half of American adults have diet-related health problems, such as diabetes and heart disease. Generally speaking, more women reported being o n a diet than men. The heavier and more educated people were, the more likely they were to report being on a special diet, the study found.
Between 2007 and 2008, and 2017 and 2018, diets described as "weight loss or low calorie" grew in popularity. Low-carbohydrate diets became more popular, while low-fat and low-cholesterol diets became less popular. The findings were part of an continuous national survey. People who took part in the survey were asked the following question: "Are you currently on any kind of diet, either to lose weight or for some other health-related reason "
Becky Ramsing is a dietician and program officer at Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future. Ramsing said that people make very different kinds of choices in hopes of losing weight. In some cases, she said people might not understand why the choices they make do not help them lose weight.
32.Why do more Americans start to go on a special diet at present
A. Because of their health B. Because of their wealth
C. Because of their disease D. Because of their age
33.What became popular in 2017 in America
A. Losing weight B. Putting on weight
B. Low-fat diets D. Diet-related diseases
34.What does the last paragraph suggest
A. Some Americans aren’t interested in losing weight
B. Some Americans have had serious diseases in their life
C. Some Americans don’t make good choices in their life
D. Some Americans have doubted the importance of science
35. What’s the best title of the passage
A. Diseases on Diets for More Americans
B. More Women on Diets than men in America
C. Diseases Related to Health problems in America
D. More Americans on Special Diets for Health Reasons
