Teaching objectives:
1. Language knowledge:
(1) Grammar: Present perfect tense with “already” and “yet”:
I have already finished my work.
I haven’t finished my work yet.
—Have you finished your work yet
—Yes, I have. / No, I haven’t.
(2) Words and expressions: science fiction, technology, French, can’t wait to do sth
2. Language skills:
(1) Ss can finish the exercises of present perfect tense with the help of the key words.
(2) Ss can talk about recent events and experiences.
3. Learning strategies:
(1) Ss can cultivate their ability of individual learning and cooperative learning by doing some activities independently and some in groups.
(2) Ss can communicate with others in English while doing the group work.
(3) Ss can monitor their speaking while making the dialogue.
(4) Ss can monitor their reading while doing the exercises of present perfect tense.
4. Affects: Ss will be grateful for their mom and others.
Language focuses: Learning present perfect tense with “already” and “yet”
Anticipated difficulties:
1. Learning the differences between simple past tense and present perfect tense
2. Making a dialogue in the front using present perfect tense
Teaching methods:Communicative Approach; Task-based Learning Method
Teaching aids: Multimedia devices, PPT documents, and a video
Teaching steps:
Step1: leading-in
Activity1: Free talk.
T: Last Sunday was Mother’s Day. Did you spend time with your mom
Ss watch a video about Mandy and her mom, and then answer what Mandy said to her mom.
Activity2: Knowing something about present perfect tense.
Step2: Learning and practice
Activity1: Learning the structure of present perfect tense.
Ss observe the sentences and try to summarize the basic structure.
Ss try to find the rule of the past participles.
Game Time: T presents the irregular verbs quickly, and Ss stand up and shout out their past tense and past participle forms.
Activity2: Learning how to change the sentence patterns.
Ss observe the changes of the sentences and try to summarize how to change the affirmative sentences into the negative sentences.
Ss observe the changes of the sentences and try to summarize how to change the affirmative sentences into the interrogative sentences.
Activity3: Learning the key words for present perfect tense.
Ss read the sentences together and try to find out the key words.
Ss learn the differences between “already” and “yet”.
Exercises: Ss fill in the blanks to complete the sentences.
Game Time: Ss are supposed to finish the exercises within 10 seconds. Then they have a group competition to give the answers.
Step3: Consolidation and extension
Activity1: Learning the differences between simple past tense and present perfect tense.
Ss compare these two tenses from the dialogues.
Ss get to know about the adverbials of time used in each tense.
Exercises.
Activity2: Completing the exercises 4a in the textbook.
Activity3: Completing the exercises 4b in the textbook.

Activity4: Group Work
Three Ss in a group make a dialogue as follows, using present perfect tense and talking about Mother’s Day.
Children: Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!
Mother: Thank you.
C1: Look, Mom! I have made a card for you.
C2: I have cleaned all the rooms.
C1: I have washed all the clothes.
C2: And I have cooked a big dinner for you!
M: Oh, you’re so sweet! Thank you, dears.
Ss give their performance in the front.
Step4: Affect education
Who’s the most beautiful woman in the world
Mother’s love is the greatest of all.
We should always thank her and love her.
Step5: Summary
Summarize the target sentences using present perfect tense learned in this lesson.
Step6: Exercises
Step7: Homework
1. Finish the exercises in the paper.
2. Make a dialogue about Mother’s Day, using present perfect tense.
