教学目标 1.【知识目标】学生能够掌握并熟练运用以下单词和词组：“save, symbol, flag, forget, get lost, place, water, danger, be in great danger, cut down, tree, kill, ivory, over,(be) made of , Thailand, Thai”2.【能力目标】a. 学生能从阅读材料中准确的获得相关信息。b. 掌握阅读策略，以读促思，提升阅读能力。c.学生能够运用思维导图理清文章主题结构, 并能准确使用所学词汇和表达方式进行文本输出，以读促写。3.【情感文化目标】 a.学生能够了解泰国的大象文化，以及一些濒临灭绝野生动物的相关信息。b.学生能够更加热爱自然，更加坚定地保护野生动物。
教学重点 培养学生的阅读技能以及构建思维导图的阅读策略。
教学难点 让学生理解文章内容。文章篇幅较长，生词较多，这些会成为学生阅读中的障碍。笔者将处理好生词，给与学生足够的时间去读，让他们带着兴趣去读。

Step1.Warming-up（2mins） 1.Greeting to the students as usual.2.To guide the students to say “hello” and introduce their group numbers.3. Step 2(8mins) 1.Let Ss guess what an animal is it in the picture.(an elephant)2.Teach new words in the passage then check the Ss’ answers. Guess what animal it is. 1.猜动物游戏能够激发学生参与课堂活动的兴趣. 结合图片创设语境,通过大象的外形，生活习性的交流，自然地引出本课中的新词，逐渐过渡到阅读环节帮助学生在后面的阅读环节中扫除障碍。为下面的快速阅读做好铺垫。
StageⅡ: While-reading(20 mins)
Step1.Fast reading（5 mins） 1. Ask the Ss to read the text fast and match the main meaning of each paragraph.________ Elephants are very smart,________ Elephants are important in Thailand.________ Elephants are in danger.2. Ask the Ss to choose the general idea of the text. (答案：c )What is an Elephant Come to Thailand.Let’s save the elephantd. Elephants are good pets. Read the text fast and find out the mainsentences of each paragraph. 1. 快速阅读课文，让学生了解文章大意。课本2b部分要求学生阅读后选出最佳标题。在这一环节中要告诉学生在快读的过程中只需关注大意，先从整体上把握文章。2. 根据段意选择文章的标题，培养学生学会捕捉关键信息，整体把握阅读材料。设计让学生先选择段落大意，然后根据段意选择标题。帮助学生降低难度，也让学生了解概括段意和选择文章标题的方法。
Step2.Careful reading （15 mins） Read the article again, according to the reading skills given finish activities of 2c according to mind map.阅读第1-3段，根据提示回答问题：（1）Why are elephants important in Thailand first flag had a _______________symbol of _________（2）Why are elephants in danger People _______ many trees.People kill them for _______________.Today there are only _______________ (over ________ before). Read the passage again then work in groups to finish the exercise. 要求学生细读文章，通过寻找细节来获得更多信息。课本2c部分是要求学生完成一张思维导图，共四块内容，因此教师将课本上的思维导图分解开，让学生分段阅读，将导图中每段内容设计成问题让学生回答，板书时又将这些信息还原到黑板上的思维导图中，将文章内容，清晰地展示。让学生再获得整体的感知。
StageⅢ: Post-reading (15 mins)
Step 1. retell(8 mins) Let the Ss work in group of four to draw the mind map and ask one of them to retell the article. Draw the mind map and tell the story using their own words with the help of the mind map. 1.课文复述是学生对语言吸收、存储、内化和表达的过程。通过对阅读材料反复阅读能较好地帮助学生加深对课文的整体理解,巩固所学英语知识。2.小组分工合作画思维导图可以给学生提供帮助。同时，采用以小组的形式四人一组复述，不仅能降低复述的难度，也因为有同伴在一起学生会更加有说的勇气。
Step 2.discussion(7 mins) Let the Ss to discuss the following question.How to save the animals Talk about their opinions. 通过对目标语言开放的口语活动，突出《课标》强调的语言学习的实践性和应用性。讨论既能帮助学生更深层次地理解课文，也为下一步的写作做铺垫。经过讨论相关内容，学生对接下去的写作练习能更得心应手。讨论分成三步走，首先是学生自己的思考，然后是师生共同探讨，最后是小组合作讨论。层层递进，给学生足够的思考空间和表述的机会。

Homework Level A . Write a passage : How to protect the animals Level B Make a survey about other animal are in great danger and make a report. 作业巩固和运用目标语言根据学生程度，分层次地布置了回家作业。Level A是针对全体学生的作业。写如何保护动物之类的文章，从一定程度上也能进一步增强其保护动物的意识. Level B是选做作业。完成对其他濒临灭绝动物调查报告，这样的设计也是对本课话题的拓展和延伸。

课前预测 本单元的教学主题是动物。本课的教学内容是第四课时，话题转向了对濒危动物的关注。通过调查学生对濒危动物的了解引出保护濒危动物大象的语篇阅读，培养学生的阅读技能，增强学生的动物保护意识。由于语篇篇幅较长，生词较多，所以我需要花费一定的时间处理单词。在篇章阅读上，学生仍然处于阅读策略和阅读能力培养的初级阶段。在课堂上绘画思维导图部分如时间充足在上课时进行，时间不够则作为作业完成。
