Study the techniques that the writer uses
Quotation It doesn’t matter. It’s just me. And, anyway, no one knows.
Every individual matters. Every individual has a role to play. Every individual makes a difference.
Examples … say you leave the tap running while you brush your teeth, leave a light burning when you go out or you drop a piece of litter and can’t be bothered to pick it up.
Colloquial style You know that all those things are wrong, but so what
You get to choose: do you want to use your life to make the world a better place for people, animals and the environment
Repetition … How can it matter if I leave one little tap running, one little light burning, one little piece of litter on the road
… Millions of gallons of water would be wasted, millions of lights would be left burning, millions of pieces of litter would be dropped.
Parallel structures: To create a strong effect on readers so that they understand the writer’s point better and reflect on their own behavior deeply as well.
It doesn’t matter.
It’s just me. And, anyway, no one knows.
Discuss:
What is your explanation for the two quotes from Dr. Jane Goodall
Every individual matters.
Every individual has a role to play. Every individual makes a difference.
Dr. Jane Goodall’s quotes mean that changing the role is an individual act, because there are millions of people who can make a difference if they all act on their own.
