Shadow puppetry, or piyingxi, is an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment(娱乐) in China. It has been an important part of Chinese culture.
Shadow puppetry dates back to the Han Dynasty, more than 2, 000 years ago. When Emperor Wu's favorite wife died of illness, the emperor became very sad. One of his ministers came up with an idea to cheer the emperor up. That night, he cut a puppet(木偶)in the shape of the emperor's wife and put on a performance. It was so wonderful that the emperor felt that he saw the spirit of his love. Shadow puppet shows became popular during the Tang Dynasty. People celebrated festivals and holidays by putting on shadow puppet shows.
It's said that the puppets were first cut out of paper, but later made of colored leather(皮革). One mouth tells stories of thousands of years, and a pair of hands brings millions of puppets to life. This is how a puppet artist works. However, being a puppet artist is never easy. In order to make the puppets look like real ones, puppet artists must spend long hours watching and studying how people and animals move. They usually practice many times before a show. In a show, performers hold puppets behind a white cloth and make the puppets move naturally. They use both hands while performing and have to change their hands from time to time.
( )49. When did shadow puppetry start
A. In the Zhou Dynasty.

( )50. Who created shadow puppetry

Paper or plastic After paper, plastic seems to be the most popular material for making pared with paper money, plastic banknotes are stronger and last for a longer time, so people can keep using them. But they are much more expensive to make.
The fifth edition of the Renminbi (RMB) came out on Aug. 30, 2019. These bills have brighter colors and new security features, which can make printing fake (假的) money even harder. We've been using banknotes for around 1, 000 years. Back in the Northern Song Dynasty, Chinese people made the world's earliest paper money to replace metal coins(金属硬币)﹒These banknotes were called jiaozi.
Obviously, paper money is cheaper to make and easier to carry. These advantages made it more popular than other forms of money. But now, in the digital(数码的) age, paper money seems to be disappearing for the same reason—what's more convenient than not having to carry any money at all
My life in Beijing is quite different from that in India. 在中国, 我出去的时候很少带钱。I can pay for almost everything by Alipay. It's amazing. However, if you don't take a wallet with you, you'll get into trouble. —Sam from India
China seems to be heading toward becoming a cashless society. From supermarkets to street stalls(小摊), people pay by using WeChat Wallet and Alipay apps on their mobile phones. Sweden is even closer to a future without paper money. Many Swedish banks no longer even have cash on hand.
But there are worries about creating cashless societies. Some say, “It's unfair to the poor and people without too much education. ” It's not easy for them to open bank accounts(账户) or deal with mobile phones. And if all of your money is digital, you may lose your money if your accounts are hacked(非法侵入). Although paper money is in a losing war with electronic payment in some countries, it's still a big thing in most parts of the world. It may take a little longer than you think to see it go away.

There is one of various activities which gave me a deep impression. With the aim of encouraging more students to pay attention to handwriting, our class had a handwriting competition. I had made determination to practice my handwriting. I asked my classmate for help and followed her carefully. During the process, I understood the structure of each character and the meaning of it. When I enjoyed the beauty of handwriting, I deeply realized how great our culture is. Finally, I improved my handwriting largely and regained the confidence. In conclusion, we can't ignore the importance of traditional culture too much. It is beginning to capture the attention of the world. We are supposed to do something to reserve, to inherit and to carry forward the traditional Chinese culture.
