Here are the stories about two famous explorers(探险家).
Zheng He
Zheng He was a famous Chinese explorer. In 1405, he set off from China on the first of seven great voyages(航行).
From 1405 to 1433,Zheng He went on seven trips and visited Southeast Asia, the Middle East and even the east coast of Africa. These voyages allowed China to trade valuable goods like gold, silver and silk. At the end of each voyage, Zheng He returned with many things that were seen in China for the first time. Besides developing trade, the voyages also encouraged the exchange of cultures and technologies.
Zheng He died in 1433 during his last voyage. However, his voyages were such a huge achievement(成就) that people still remember him.
Marco Polo
Marco Polo grew up in the city of Venice, in present day Italy. In 1271, when he was 17 years old, he set off on a journey to Asia with his father and uncle and did not return home until 24 years later.
When Marco Polo finally returned to Venice, there was a war and he was captured(俘虏). While he was in prison(监狱), he told the stories of his travels to another man there. This man wrote the stories down in a book called The Travels of Marco Polo.
The stories gave many Europeans their first look at the life and culture of the people in Asia. Marco Polo told many amazing things that were unknown to Europeans, such as paper money. The book made Europeans more and more interested in the East. It also influenced(影响) many other explorers, including Christopher Columbus.
Marco Polo died in 1324. His last words were “I did not tell half of what I saw”.

Joining a short term research program in China has not only allowed Pakistani agricultural scientist Sayyar Khan to push forward with his academic studies, but also given him a chance to see a country he had heard so much about.
Khan is now doing a one year research program at Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences. Although this is his first visit to China, Khan says he is well informed of the long friendship between China and Pakistan. He is impressed most by the cooperation (合作) in education between China and Pakistan, especially since the start up of the Belt and Road Initiative (“一带一路”建设) in 2013.
“Many students from my university and my city have visited China and completed their higher education here,”he says,adding that he has met with many of them.

Khan says the Belt and Road Initiative will have a very positive effect on the world.
Khan says life in Beijing is much easier than he expected, thanks to the convenient (便利的) public transportation and restaurants. This encouraged him to bring his family to live with him a couple of months ago.
He also enjoys the relaxing working environment and has a very good relationship with his co workers.
