Google has reported progress in its plan called “Project Loon” to provide Internet service to rural (农村的) areas without Internet connectivity around the world. The company has no plans to use traditional wiring, which can be costly. Instead the idea is to float huge balloons (气球) about 20 kilometers above the surface of the Earth.

The company also said the discovery should speed up the project and reduce costs: “We ’ll reduce the number of balloons we need and get greater value out of each one, ”they said. But Project Loon workers must still find ways to increase the life of the balloons. A British Broadcasting Corporation report said the longest service for a single balloon was 190 days.

The standing broad jump is an exercise where the jumpers must jump as far as possible. Unlike other classic Olympic events, the jumper cannot run to build up strength. This exercise takes great attention, and it can be difficult to improve. 1
2 Use a form to fill out the greatest distance you have reached every workout. You should also write down which techniques you have used so that you will know what actually works on you. Set a distance goal for a future date, and once you reach this goal, set a new one.
Throughout the jump, jumpers should always look forward, toward their goal distance. 3 Try to achieve a great distance without jumping very high at the take-off and be sure that all of your energy is pointing forward rather than upward.
Using the power from your upper body to push yourself forward can help you achieve a great distance. This can be a great way to warm up before trying the jump. Start by standing in the correct position with your toes lined up and feet shoulder-width apart. 4 Now bend your knees and jump as your arms move forward again.
Having more strength in your legs will allow you to jump a greater distance. Practicing the standing broad jump will exercise your legs as well, but having strong leg muscles to begin with will help you achieve greater distances. 5

Suzy sat on her bed and gave a deep sigh. It was time to pack for Grandma ’s house. But what should she bring
“I can ’t go without Teddy, ” Suzy said. She put her little bear into the suitcase. Then she added her other animals. She might need them to play with, she thought. Her cousins would be visiting Grandma ’s house. But what if they didn ’t remember her
Suzy was afraid she might get bored. “I ’ll need my books, ” she said, “and my beach ball, my baseball mitt (棒球手套), my building blocks. ”
Mama came in to help. Suzy brought over her crayons and paints and colored paper. “What if there ’s nothing to do ” Suzy asked her. Mama smiled. She told Suzy about the fun things she did growing up on Grandma ’s farm.
“Teddy and the other toys will be fun to play with, ” Mama said. “But let ’s pack your swimsuit-just in case you want to try something new. ”
“I don ’t think I ’ll like swimming in a pond, ” Suzy said.
Honk (汽车喇叭声)! Honk! “Let ’s go! Let ’s go! ” Papa called from the driveway. “Last one in is a hairy bear! ”
Mama helped Suzy close her suitcase and carry it to the car. “You ’re going to have fun! ” Mama said.
Suzy felt very nervous. She had never spent the night away from home. She hugged her teddy bear tight as they drove to Grandma ’s farm. As their car pulled up the driveway, Suzy heard the sound of water and the laughter of some kids. She looked out of the window and saw her cousins swimming in the lake.
“Suzy ’s here! ” called her aunts and uncles from the door. They were smiling and waving as they ran down the path. A colorful sign read “Welcome”.

A new study warns that about thirty percent of the world ’s people may not have enough water by 2025.
A private American organisation called Population Action International (PAI) did the new study. It says more than three hundred and thirty-five million people lack enough water now. The people live in twenty-eight countries. Most of the countries are in Africa or the Middle East.
PAI researcher Robert Engelman says by the year 2025, about three thousand million people are short of water. Eighteen more countries are expected to have serious water problems. The demand for water keeps increasing. Yet the amount of water on the earth stays the same.
Mr Engelman says the population in countries that lack water is growing faster than in other parts of the world. He says population growth in these countries will continue to increase.
The report says lack of water in the future may result in several problems. It may increase health problems. Lack of water often means drinking water is not safe. Mr Engelman says there are problems all over the world because of diseases like cholera that are carried in water.
Lack of water may also lead to more international conflicts. Countries may have to fight for water in the future. Some countries now get sixty percent of their fresh water from other countries. This is true of Egypt, the Netherlands, Cambodia, Syria, Sudan and Iraq. And the report says lack of water would affect the ability to improve their economies. This is because new industries often need large amounts of water when they are beginning.
The Population Action International study gives several solutions to the water problem. One way, it says, is to find ways to use water for more than one purpose. Another way is to teach people to be careful not to waste water. A third way is to use less water of agriculture.
The report also says long-term solutions to the water problem must include controls on population growth. It says countries cannot provide clean water unless they slow population growth by limiting the number of children people have.
