  阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

A global analysis of Earth’s threatened and endangered species has changed our scientific understanding about how much climate change is affecting wildlife.
The research, published Monday in the journal Nature Climate Change, shows that 47 percent of mammals and 23 percent of birds have been negatively affected by our changing planet. Those figures are shockingly larger than previous assessments, which have shown 7 percent of mammals and 4 percent of birds were affected. Of the 873 mammal species looked at, 414 are hurt by climate change. For threatened birds, 298 of 1, 272 species are experiencing negative effects, according to the findings.
However, a new study follows the analysis of threatened wildlife shows that the biggest threat to wildlife is not climate change, which gets a lot of attention, but human activities, including logging (伐木), hunting and farming. Today, three-quarters of Earth’s land surface faces “human pressure”, according to a global analysis professor Watson carried out in August.
“When it comes to the effects of human activities on wildlife, ” Watson said, “most studies look at what might happen to a population in the future, perhaps 50 or 100 years down the line. The problem with such forecasts is that they are absolutely unhelpful for the here and now. ”
“Nature is extremely resilient (能复原的) if you give it a chance, ” Watson said. “But the big thing is acting now, not in 20 to 50 years’ time. Not make climate change and“human pressure” a future threat, but take action now. Because every day, every minute, which you delay, you lose those opportunities. ”
21. What has been found about the effects of climate change according to the passage
A. Human activities are suffering severe disaster due to the climate change.
B. The species affected by climate change are more than people thought.
C. More than half of the mammal species were affected by climate change.
D. Three-quarters of Earth’s land surface has been damaged by climate change.
22. What does the underlined word “they” refer to
A. Human activities. B. Negative effects.
C. Assessments. D. Forecasts.
23. What’s the attitude of Watson towards the recovery of the environment
A. Optimistic. B. Pessimistic.
C. Doubtful. D. Uncaring.

On a day in Arkansas, some fishermen saw a bear cub(幼兽)in a tree. As hours went by, its mother didn’t return. So they called wildlife biologist Eastridge.
The bear cub was sick and hungry, weighing only 5 pounds and with his eyes not completely open. Eastridge called Lisa Stewart, who works at Appalachian Bear Rescue in Tennessee. Stewart always makes room for a new cub.
She named the bear Miracle because she thought it was a miracle that he had survived! As soon as she could, she stopped having contact with the cub so he would not become too used to humans. When the cub arrived, Stewart cleaned his eyes and put him in a house alone. Since Miracle was already 5 months old, Stewart gave him bowls of food and another bowl of a special formula(配方奶粉), similar to a bear mother’s milk. Sometimes, Miracle would reach his head out of his house and take some formula or food. But he wasn’t eating too much.
Miracle was too weak to be with other bears. So Stewart gave him a toy bear named Buddy. He took it into his house and covered it with straw. He fed Buddy, too. Stewart often found the toy covered in formula and berries and its ears full of apple chunks. Now that Miracle had Buddy, he came out of his house more often and wanted to eat.
After two months, Stewart introduced Miracle to other bears so they could learn from one another. She avoided any direct contact with Miracle and the other bears. Stewart wanted to make sure they stayed afraid of humans so they could go back into the wild again. She always hid behind a fence and threw food over the top secretly. The bears hunted for this food as they would soon do in the wild.
Five months later, Rick Eastridge returned to pick up a healthy 90-pound Miracle and another bear from Arkansas named Rocky. Eastridge loaded the bears into boxes on his truck and transported them back to the wild. As soon as the bear boxes were opened, the two cubs ran for the woods─where they belonged.
24. What did Stewart do shortly after the cub arrived
A. She helped him eat food.
B. She contacted with him.
C. She settled him down.
D. She named him Miracle.
25. A toy bear was given to Miracle in order to _______.
A. remind him not to waste his food
B. kill his lonely time in his house
C. develop his skills of making friends
D. rid Miracle of its fear of humans
26. Why did Stewart always give food to Miracle in secret
A. Because he could learn how to find food in the wild.
B. Because he was too weak to be frightened by humans.
C. Because a good relationship could be developed.
D. Because she didn’t want to disturb his peaceful life.
27. What is the best title for this passage
A. An Unusual Bear B. The Growth of Miracle
C. Rescuing Miracle D. Contacting Miracle

Snow leopards (豹) are so hard to photograph that scientists aren’t even sure how many of these endangered animals still live in the wild.
The Snow Leopard Conservancy(SLC) set up 20 cameras in Russia in 2010 to learn more about the big cats. After a full six months, they had exactly zero picture! That’s when the organization understood they needed help. And the only people who could help them in finding the leopards were the very people from whom they wanted to protect the animals—local hunters (猎人).
Hunting snow leopards is against the law in Russia, but in the terrible climate of Siberia, the few people living there had to turn to poaching (盗猎) to feed their families.
In 2013, Russian naturalist Sergei Spitsyn approached Mergen Markov, a local hunter, and told him his project. Markov agreed to set up the camera where he knew he would find leopards, and it worked.
Markov, once a poacher, works full time for the conservationists now and has 10 cameras monitoring leopards. “I visit each camera once a month. I have known this whole region since I was a child, ” he said proudly.
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) began working with other local villagers in 2015. The villager would be paid 40, 000 rubles at the end of the year if the image of a snow leopard is caught. WWF also rents horses from the villagers so that they do not need to make money by poaching anymore. “Today there are far fewer leopard poachers but leopards still get caught in traps set for other animals, so I have to stay watchful, ” said Markov.
Changing guns for cameras has made a big difference in the lives of these former poachers, the village, and the Russian snow leopards. The number of snow leopards has been rising and their population is expected to recover to normal levels within 10 years.
28. Why was no picture of snow leopards taken in six months
A. SLC’s 20 cameras failed to work properly.
B. The number of snow leopards in the wild was too small.
C. The local poachers destroyed these cameras on purpose.
D. The researchers knew little about the animal’s living habits.
29. What did Sergei Spitsyn persuade Markov to do
A. Find the poachers.
B. Repair cameras in the forest.
C. Catch more leopards.
D. Work for SLC.
30. Why did the WWF begin working with local villagers
A. To get some pictures of snow leopards.
B. To help villagers make a living.
C. To prevent villagers from hunting animals.
D. To rent their horses at a low price.
31. How can we describe the WWF’s cooperation with the villagers
A. Practice makes perfect.
B. Curiosity kills the cat.
C. Kill two birds with one stone.
D. Old habits die hard.

Hungry deer in the northeastern US are likely changing the acoustics (音效) of their forests by eating up bushes, small trees and other leafy plants that normally would affect the transmission(传播) of natural sounds such as bird calls.
Megan Gall, an ecologist at Vassar College who studies how the environment shapes animals’ senses, showed curiosity about the possibility after talking with a couple of colleagues who were studying how browsing (吃草的) deer could transform a forest ecosystem by eating up the entire lower level of leafy plants.
Gall already knew that sound travels differently through open fields than through the woods. She also had previously studied how human noise can influence wildlife communication. Confused about how deer might change what other animals hear, she decided to do some experiments in a couple of forested areas that her colleagues had set up for their deer studies.
One area was fenced off in a way that kept out the deer. The other area was marked off but left open so that deer could enter and browse. Gall and two students set up audio equipment around these areas. They broadcast different sounds and checked to see how those sounds changed after traveling through each environment. They checked sounds that they sent through the lowest level of the forest, in the middle-level of the forest and at angles going from the ground upward.
The results, published in the journal PLOS One, show that the structure (结构) of a sound changed a lot when it was traveling through an area that the deer hadn’t snacked on. “When deer were browsing, we actually found that the sound was clearer, ” Gall says. “The challenge for further study is to find places that have not been browsed, ” he says, “to see if any of these changes have already occurred. Deer are so pervasive. You’d really have to look hard to find areas that have not been browsed. ”
32. What made Megan Gall curious
A. That hungry deer may change how things sound in the forest.
B. That the environment shapes animals’ senses in the long term.
C. That bird calls have great influence on the acoustics of the forest.
D. That hungry deer are likely to eat up all the lower level of plants.
33. Why did Megan Gall start the experiments
A. To study how human noise affects wildlife communication.
B. To conclude that sound travels differently in different areas.
C. To help her colleagues continue their present study on deer.
D. To figure out deer’s influence on what other animals hear.
34. What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A. The process of analyzing the results.
B. The preparations for the experiments.
C. Why some forested areas were set up.
D. How the experiments were conducted.
35. What does the underlined word “pervasive” in the last paragraph probably mean
A. Rare. B. Generous.
C. Widespread. D. Straightforward.

My name is John and I must share with you an event which took place on Flight 1553 out of DCA. My wife and I were traveling to Miami to celebrate an achievement for her and as you can imagine, we were looking forward to fun, sun and laughter.
We boarded the aircraft, without a care in the world. It was cold in Washington and we were ready for Florida.
Shortly after taking my seat, I began to feel sick. I knew something wasn’t right but just couldn’t find out what was happening. Being a doctor and a stubborn man, I resisted efforts by my wife to call for assistance. As the aircraft began its departure roll, I lost consciousness for a short amount of time.
As I came around, I quickly realized a few things. Firstly, something very bad had happened to me. Secondly, the aircraft was too heavy with the fuel to go back home. Thirdly, my loss of consciousness had been so deep that I found myself out of control. So not only did I have a medical issue to deal with, but I also had to figure out how to deal with an embarrassing experience.
My wife gathered the crew as soon as it was safe to move about and I made my way to the washroom to attempt to clean up. I did my best and the flight crew members were so supportive, checking on me often and reassuring me that there was nothing to be embarrassed about.
It was their sympathy and support that helped me so much. During the flight they kept watching over me and I suddenly had a small group of nurses, bringing blankets, food, drinks and caring and smile. I was thankful to them.
Paragraph 1:
Upon landing, I remained in my seat, allowing other people to go first.

第二部分 阅读(共两节, 满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2. 5分, 满分37. 5分)
  阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
A global analysis of Earth’s threatened and endangered species has changed our scientific understanding about how much climate change is affecting wildlife.

Dear Peter,
I’m so glad to hear from you and know what you are doing these days. I’m writing to tell you how our schooling is now going on.
Actually, we are having e-learning at home, studying in the “classroom in the air” all the academic and non-academic subjects. The holiday schedule runs from 8: 00 am till 4: 30 pm on workday, with more and longer breaks for rest than usual.
Personally, I’ve got used to online learning, which I think is a creative form of schooling, and also our own way to fight the COVID-19 epidemic. We’ve come to realize how important computers and mobile phones have become to us! But I really miss the days with my friends and teachers on campus. That’s why I pray for the end of the epidemic every day, and I believe it’ll soon come.
Best wishes.
Yours,
Li Jin

As I was in my seat, I looked up and saw the captain standing with a warm smile. “What can I do for you ” the captain asked. I told him I was OK. I was very embarrassed and concerned because of the previous things. He said, “What sizes of pants do you wear ” His voice was full of care. I was puzzled and replied, “34*34. Why do you ask this ”
Paragraph 2:
Hearing that, the captain left and returned a couple of minutes later with a pair of his own blue jeans. The man opened his own luggage and gave me a pair of his pants. I didn’t know what to say. Then I looked at my wife, who smiled and, without saying a word, let me know it was OK. I made my way to the exit and he said, “Change on the aircraft. It is fine. ” Because of the experience, I was thankful to him for his kindness. I made up my mind to treat others with kindness.
