Step 1 Leading in
Have a free talk with two or three students. Talk about students’ favorite pets.
Say: Now I know you like dogs, and you don’t like cats. (Point at two students)
For me, I like pandas. Why do I like pandas Let’s watch a short video.
Maybe you can find the answers in the video.
Play a short video about a panda. Let students enjoy it.
After watching it, tell students: I like pandas because they’re friendly and cute. Also, I think they’re beautiful.
Ask students: Do you like pandas Why do you like pandas
Show the title to the students.
Step 2 Show the objectives today
Say: Today we will learn Unit 5 Why do you like pandas
Up to now, we’ve talked about animals.
At the end of this class, you are able to :
1. know some animals and some description words;
2. give reasons why I like animals.
3. understand why we should be friendly with the animals.
Step 2 Presentation
Brainstorm
Say: Just now, we talked about cats, dogs and pandas. I have a question.
What other animals do you know
Let students say the animals they’ve known.
Show some pictures to help students think of more animals.
Let students read the words in chorus.
2. Present other pictures on the screen. Ask and answer in pairs.
A: What’s this / that B: It’s a / an ….
Teach new words that students can’t pronounce.
Show the plural forms of each word and read together.
3. Show the target language:
A: Do you like …s B: Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.
