Dear Daniel,
I feel that I've grown up and should make my own decisions, but my parents disagree. My mum still helps me choose what clothes to wear. My dad asks me to pay attention only to study. I know they do this out of love, but I feel controlled. What should I do
Amanda
Dear Amanda,
Your parents sound very strict. It's hard to believe that your mum chooses what you wear. Are you a Barbie doll
Try to take the first step when possible. Dress yourself before your mother has a chance to come in and choose your clothes. If she asks you to change, tell her you'll be late for school.
You should also talk to her. Ask about her choices: What makes a set of clothes acceptable or unacceptable Tell her you will follow her rules, but you want to make the choices. You are not in first grade. You are a young lady in high school.
As for your father, it's difficult to argue with his mind. After all,he is not totally wrong. How strict is he Does he lock you up with your textbooks Are you allowed to have a hobby Are you allowed to have a smartphone Are you allowed to hang out with friends
Such strict parents should know the law of diminishing returns(收益递减). A weightlifter, for example, can only lift for an hour or two each day. If she does more, her muscles will not become stronger. She will just get tired. She may even hurt herself!
Our brains also have limits. Some violin teachers say you should only practise a new skill for 15 minutes each day. Our brains need to relax and understand new information. Our brains also have a basic need to socialise(社交). Ask your father: what is the meaning of so much studying if it makes you feel unhappy
  Stay strong.
Daniel

Every time I felt upset or sick, I liked to go to a special place where I could relax myself. It was the club. I joined the club one year ago. My sister recommendedthis place to me. She told me that I could find lots of fun there. It's near my house and our hospital. I usually stayed there for 2 or 3 hours and went home. I loved the club because I felt comfortable there!
The club only allowed women to be members. I didn't worry about my privacy. The club was the biggest women's club in my country where there was a lot of space to do different activities. You could see a beautiful pool that was filled with warm water. You could find many big rooms behind the pool. There was an exercise room, an MTV centre, a massage centre, and two restaurants.
Working in the hospital, I had much stress. I needed to find a way to relax myself. It was the best choice for me. I often took a shower first and then swam for 20 minutes to relax myself. When I finished the exercise, I liked to watch a video and take a short sleep.

The Power of Dream

Do you have difficulty falling asleep at night If so, here is a piece of advice for you: Listen to some soft music.
Scientists have found that soft music can help to improve sleep quality(质) and quantity(量). This works for sleepers of all ages, and even for those with sleeping problems. Soft music can help us fall asleep faster, wake up less during the night and feel more rested in the morning. You may not notice the effects(效果) overnight, though. It could take as many as three weeks to see some improvements.
Why can soft music help us sleep better The reasons aren't clear yet. It may have something to do with the relaxing effect of a good song. Music can have real physical effects, too. Soft music can lower our heart rate(心率) and slow down our breathing. This prepares us for sleep.
Scientists say that for most people, music that has 70 beats(节拍) per(每) minute (bpm) works best. Classical, jazz and folk music are usually more effective than other musical styles. Familiar songs work well, too. You may need to make your own playlists. If you are not sure how many beats a song has in a minute, you can find out by entering its title into . And remember to get the volume(音量) right. Make sure that the final piece is one that fades out. Or, you may be woken up by the sudden silence.

Ⅳ.阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题(共10分,每小题2分)
If you do not use your arms or your legs for a long time, they will become weak; when you start using them again, they slowly become strong again.Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory works in the same way.
When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chances to become strong.
If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his fault(过错). But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame(责备), and few of us know that it is just his own fault.
Have you ever found that some people can't read or write but they have better memories This is because they cannot read or write and they have to remember things with their mind; they cannot write them down in a small notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories, so their memory is being exercised the whole time.
So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people: Practise remembering things in a way as other people do.
34.Does memory work in the same way as arms and legs

35.Is it right to blame his parents if one has a poor memory

36.Why do the people who can't read or write usually have better memories

37.What should you do to have a good memory

Confidence is very important. I have learned to be confident enough to get over difficulties both in school and in life. When I meet problems, I am not afraid. I try my best to think of ways to solve problems.
