After visiting an animal shelter in Hefei on 15 January, my four friends and I decided to organize a volunteer team to help it. The shelter was founded by James George and his friends. George has been living in China since 2017.
We helped George overcome the language and cultural barriers (障碍), so he could better maintain the lovely animal shelter for homeless dogs. Our team has also explored various ways to attract the attention of the public.
We realized that the publicity of the shelter on different social platforms should be our top priority. One method was to set up a special column (栏目) called “Shelter” on our WeChat account to record events, such as a virtual adoption program.
Another way we enhanced the shelter's exposure was to upload short videos on Tik Tok. We have gained over 900 followers on the platform. In total, there are 29 episodes(片段) on the shelter with more than 15,000 likes. The most popular one featured a little three-legged dog jumping to hug George, against the background music of Dad, where are you going. It got over 13,000 likes and 270 comments, all showing affection and respect.
