Desertification is a serious environmental problem around the world. As the name suggests, when non-desert areas slowly become deserts, desertification happens.
Desertification can be caused by several factors, such as global warming, overpopulation and droughts. If people use the wrong farming methods or cut down too many trees, farmland can turn into desert. With about two billion people directly affected, desertification has become growing concern for many countries.
We need to take steps to prevent desertification. We should pay attention to how much energy we use in our daily life. That way, we can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released. We can walk or cycle short distances, and use less water. We can also protect our forests by reusing paper and not using disposable chopsticks. What’s more, we should try to make people around us aware of the problem and encourage them to change their daily habits in the same way.

We are faced with all kinds of environmental problems nowadays. But what is the one that Rachel Carson dealt with in her book Silent Spring
Pesticides. Pesticides have been regarded by many other environmentalists as a type of pollution, too. It is believed by her that pesticides are poisons which should be used as a last resort and if used, then they should be used with extreme caution.

“Humans have now acquired a fateful power to alter and to destroy nature. But Man is a part of nature, and his war against nature is inevitably a war against himself.”

Why did the author paint such a beautiful picture of a non-existent town What was she trying to appeal to
Nature is innocent, man is a part of nature and is blessed by nature. We human beings should follow nature’s law and feel gratitude for nature’s blessings. Only in this way can we establish a happy homeland.
Nature is an integral nature. We should promote our knowledge of relation of chemicals and ecology. Before we use chemicals, we should know clearly about their effects on the environment and people, and make reasonable use of them.
