Chinese scientist Yuan Longping, who is famous for developing the first hybrid(杂交的) rice that pulled countless people out of bunger, died of illness at 91, on 22 May, 2021.
Having spent over five decades(十年) in hybrid rice research, the academician(院士) with the Chinese Academy of Engineering has helped China work a great wonder --- feeding nearly one-fifth of the world’s population(人口) with less than 9 percent of the world’s total land.

What’s the most important thing for you to have in your life Somebody mentions hard work. Others suggest knowledge, love and luck.
If you arrange the 26 English letters alphabetically(按字母表的顺序) and use numbers to represent(代表) each of them, for example, 1 for a, 2 for b, 3 for c..., you can change an English word into a number, so hard work becomes 8+1+18+4+23+15+ 18+11= “98,” meaning 98 is its mark; Knowledge: 11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5= “96,” while love: 12+15+22+5=“54,” and luck: 12+21+3+11= “47,” a small mark. None of these words can give one a full mark. What about money or prayer(祈祷) They can’t, either.
Then what else Don’t be worried. You can always find an answer to a problem in your life, when you change your way of looking at things or doing things, or your attitude(态度). Yes, attitude is the word. See for yourself: ttitade:1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100, a full mark.
Different attitudes lead to different courses of life. Most times people hope for a better life. It is possible that one will have a change for the better after one has changed one’s attitude.
When you change your manner and become friendly towards others, you’ll meet more smiling faces towards you. In the same way, if you take a positive attitude towards failure (失败), you’ll find it’s also rewarding(值得的) though it has caused you losses.
46. In the writer’s opinion, what is the most important thing in a person’s life

C. ask for help from others D. try math-solving methods
50. From the passage we can learn that __________.

It’s exciting to see so much fantastic technology(技术) from TV shows and films come true. However, there are still things from these shows and movies that we don’t have yet. Will we see them become real in the future Let’s take a look at some of these “impossibilities”.
Faster-than-light (FTL) travel
In the Star Wars films, spaceships can travel faster than the speed of light, crossing an entire galaxy in minutes. This is called faster-than-light travel.
Physicists say that this speed is impossible to reach because traveling so fast takes a lot of energy --- and hitting light speed would take an almost infinite amount. But some people think we could take “shortcuts(捷径)” in space by traveling through wormholes(虫洞), which would allow us to cover great distances more quickly, but that sounds not practical.
Teleportation (瞬移)
Imagine being able to travel from Beijing to Paris in the blink of an eye. This is the idea behind teleportation --- a way to move people or objects somewhere quickly with a special machine. The theory is that the machine can break you down into molecules (分子) and then send your molecules to a second machine that “rebuilds” you. You can see it in the Star Trek TV series, where characters use it to “beam (发射) down” to the ground.
Obviously this sounds dangerous. For one thing, how would the machines know how to break you down or rebuild you without hurting or even killing you This technology, if it’s even possible, is likely to happen hundreds of thousands of years away.
Brain in uploads/downloads (意识上传下载)
When we die, our brains stop working. Our memories and experience are lost too, but what if we could save them in a computer
In the 2014 film Transcendence, a dying scientist uploads his consciousness(意识) to a computer. He can still think and feel, even though his consciousness is inside a computer instead of a human body.
However, this is impossible because the brain is much more complex(复杂) than the network. Our brains has 86 billion neurons(神经元). Recreating these neurons in digital(数字的) form and finding a way for them to communicate with each other in the way that real neurons do is beyond(超过) our knowledge.
51. According to the text, faster- than-light travel might be achieved by __________.
A. creating an infinite amount of energy
B. building a stronger rocket
C. changing how space-time works
D. traveling through wormholes
52. Why is teleportation dangerous
A. Because it is too fast.
B. Because individual molecules can kill other molecules.
C. Because the machines might hurt or kill their users.
D. Because beaming down to planets is unsafe.
pared with a computer, how does human consciousness work
A. Neurons work Hike digital networks.
B. Neurons in the brain communicate with each other.
C. The brain is powered by electricity.
D. The brain can save more information than computer.
54. Which one of these three technologies is likely to become real in the near future according to the passage
A. Faster than-light (FTL) travel B. Teleportation
C. Brain in uploads/downloads D. None of them
s5. Where can we probably see this passage
A. A story book B. A government report
C. A science magazine D. An opening speech
(D)
