Everybody can suffer from stress(压力). No matter what your age is, you can feel stressed out by things that are happening in your life. Teenagers, however, have many more opportunities(机会) to get stressed than people in any other age group. Being a teenager is hard. You are not a child any more, but you are not an adult, even though you have to deal with some very grown-up problems and decisions. Families can be one of the biggest causes of stress, such as problems with parents arguing at home,or problems with brothers and sisters. Teenagers also have a lot of stress from school, either from their teachers or from their friends. Some teenagers also feel stressed about choosing their education after high school. Getting a place at university can be very difficult and some cannot afford to go to university. The stress about getting a job when finishing school is hard for some teenagers. There are so many young people finishing school and not enough jobs for them. Sadly, there is nothing we can do to remove these causes of stress from the 1ives of teenagers, but you can learn the best way to deal with it. Arguing with your parents is very natural for teens. From your hairstyle to your friends, your marks at school to your television habits, it might just seem like you argue with your parents about everything. Though this is not pleasant, it is normal and it will most possibly pass. At the same time, remember to argue fairly, respectfully(尊重地) and argue only when needed. It might be hard to stay in control while arguing with parents, but it will do you a lot of good.
Arguments between teens and parents generally come about when both parties believe that they know what is best. Parents have been caring for their teens for over ten years, but teens are quickly becoming adults and believe that they are able to take care of themselves. If you are a teen arguing with your parents, remember that your parents love you and only want what is best for you. If you must argue with them, argue fairly, respectfully by:
▲Letting each person in the argument to speak what they want to say.
▲Refusing to break in others when they are speaking.
▲Only Arguing about the topic at hand. Don’t talk about past hurts.
▲Showing your parents that you have thought about the issue(事情) and are trying to sort things for yourself.
There is a small difference between having a discussion and an argument, but smart teens know that having a discussion with their parents will make things easier.
Arguing with parents is usually a hallmark(标记) of the teenaged years, but out of control arguments don’t serve anyone well. Before arguing with your parents, decide what type of teen you want to be and what you are willing to do in order to achieve your goals.
( )11.Why do teens argue with their parents according to the writer?
A. Parents and teens have different ideas of what is best.
B. Parents don’t want their children to grow up.
C. Teens don’t need their parents’ care any more.
D. They have different habits.
( )12.When arguing with parents, teens should do the following EXCEPT__________.
A. Let both sides tell what they want to say.
B. Show your parents that you have considered the things carefully.
C. Keep yourself in control.
D. Tell your parents that they have often hurt you before.
( )13. The underlined word “sort” probably means _____________
A. 处理 B. 类别 C. 占据 D. 放好
( )14 We can learn from the passage that_________________.
A. the arguments between parents and teens will not possibly pass.
B. having a discussion is better than arguing with parents.
C. teens will not lose control when arguing with their parents.
D. teens should decide whether their parents love them before arguing.

First, more and more people have their own computers and their computers can be joined with the Internet. So it is possible for many of them to do shopping through the Internet. Second, shopping through the Internet can save them some money and a lot of time. Third, they don't need to go to the shop themselves. Because of these good facts, few people refuse it.

I will always remember my mother’s last few days in this world.
On February 14th, 2000, my class went on a field trip to the beach. I had so much fun. When we returned to school, my teacher told me to go to the headmaster’s office. When I got into the office, I saw a police office. Suddenly I realized something was wrong. The police office told me what had happened and we went to pick my sister up. After that, we went to the hospital and waited. Time went slowly. Finally, we got to see our mother. It was terrible.
On the next day, the headmaster came and told my two teachers what had happened. I was taking a rest that day. I knew it had something to do with my mother. I kept thinking that she either died or had gotten better. How I wished that she had gotten better. When my teacher took me outside, my sister ran up to me. She started crying, “She’s gone. Teresa, mommy’s gone. She’s dead.” I couldn’t believe it. We jumped into the car and drove straight to the hospital. Most of my family were there. The silence was terrible. I knew I had to say goodbye.
Today when I look back, I still miss my mother very much, but I know that I will live. My mother was a strong mother, who had the biggest heart. My mother was an angel walking on the earth. I will always remember her as living. When someone is asked who their hero(英雄) is, they usually say someone famous, like Michael Jordan or Britney Spears. When someone asks me who my hero is, I tell them, my mother. My mother lives every day. That is what makes her a true hero.

You have often looked into a mirror, of course. But you haven’t seen the real picture of your face yet. And why couldn’t you see it? When you look into a mirror, you don’t see your face as other people see it. You see a reversed picture. If you close your left eye, your picture closes its right eye. If you touch your right ear with your right hand, your picture touches its left ear with its left hand.
If you have two small mirrors, you can see your faces as your friends see it. You hold the two mirrors at right angles(角度) to each other and look into them. After some practice you will be able to see the real picture of your face.
Now close your left eye and your picture closes its left eye too. Touch your right ear with your right hand and your picture touches its right ear with its right hand! This happens because each mirror reflected(反射) the picture in the other mirror. So you see a reversed picture of a reversed picture, which, of course, is the same as the real picture.

Stephen Hawking was born in Oxford, England on 8th January, 1942. He went to school in St Albans—a small city near London. Although he did well, he was never top of his class.
After leaving school, Hawking went first to Oxford University where he studied physics, then he went to Cambridge University where he studied cosmology. As he himself admits (承认), he didn't work hard. He was a very lazy student, and did very little work. However, he still got good marks.
It was at the age of 20 that Hawking first noticed something was wrong with him. He started to bump into things. A good memory is a great help in learning a language. Everybody learns his own language by remembering what he hears when he is a small child, and some children -like boys and girls who live abroad with their parents-seem to learn two languages almost as easily as one. In school it is not easy to learn a second language because the pupils have so little time for it, and they are busy with other subjects, too.
Our mind is rather like a camera, but it takes photos not only of what we see but of what we feel, hear, smell and taste. When we take a real photo with a camera, there is much to do before the photo is finished and ready to show to our friends. In the same way there is much work to be done before we can keep a picture forever (永远)in our mind.
Memory is the diary that we all carry about with us.

The world is not only hungry, it will also be thirsty for water. About 97% of water on the earth is sea water, or salt water. Man can only drink or use the other 3%of the fresh water (淡水)which comes from rivers, lakes and underground. On the other hand, because the number of people in the world is becoming larger and larger, more and more fresh water is needed. So water shortage becomes a big problem.
How can we work out this problem? Scientists have found some ways to turn salt water into fresh water. One important way is to boil (使达到沸点)sea water with high heat until vapor (蒸汽)rises, leaving the salt. In this way, a lot of fresh water can be made quickly.
But heating is not the only way to get fresh water. Other ways are tried, for example, digging deep wells, keeping rain water and preventing rivers from being polluted.

Today there are 6 billion people on the earth. By the year 2050 there may be 12.5 billion. This is a lot of people to feed. We need more food.
One way to produce more food is by growing stronger plants. For thousands of years, farmers have made plants better. Every season, they pick the best plants for the next season. It works very slowly. Since 1983, scientists have been able to change plants more quickly by changing their genetic material (遗传物质). Foods from plants grown in this way are called genetically modified foods (转基因食品), or GM foods.
By changing the genetic material of a plant, it is possible to make new plants. They make plants which are strong against plant diseases. They can also help in our diseases: a kind of rice is being prepared (准备), for example, which stops people from becoming blind.
Rich countries produce GM foods because they are easy to grow and bring in more money. Poor countries are interested in them because they help produce more food.
GM plants are not natural. No one knows how good or bad they are. Making GM foods is only one way of feeding people in 2050. There are strong feelings against them, because they are unnatural. They may feed people, then hurt them or their children later. But, both rich and poor countries are very interested in their use, and they are not going to go away. In 2050 we may think differently about them.
