(Text 1)
M:I'd like to mail this package to California.
W:Fill out this form with the required information. You can do this at the side counter. Pens are available there.
(Text 2)
M:Would you like to join us for dinner tonight, Betty
W:I'd love to. Where are we going
M:Oh, Jake made a reservation at a restaurant near my home.
(Text 3)
W:Do you think the weather will be good this weekend
M:I heard it might rain.
W:That's a pity. I'd thought about going hiking in the hills.
M:Well, we can go to that new art gallery instead.
(Text 4)
M:This book is really interesting. I've enjoyed it very much.
W:What is it Is it a novel
M:No, it's a medical book. It's been very popular recently, even though there's obviously boring subject matter.
W:Really I don't think I'd enjoy anything on such a boring topic, even if it is useful. I much prefer science fiction, especially about what life might be like in the future.
(Text 5)
M:Hey, you look great! How did you get in such good shape
W:I've been going to the club regularly, and the training has really paid off. I'm in better shape than I have been for years and I know much more about how to keep fit.
M:I haven't gone to the club for weeks. I am too busy with work.
W:I know. It's so easy to be too busy for exercise, but I've realized that exercise is extremely important to every other aspect of life.
(Text 6)
M:Do you often shop online
W:Oh, yes, quite often. It is very convenient, and it saves me a lot of time.
M:You know, I've never tried online shopping before. I'd like to try, but I'm a bit nervous I'll make a mistake.
W:Ah, you are talking to the right person. If you keep two very important tips in mind, you'll be fine. First, visit more than one site to find the best products and prices. I can tell you some of the best online shops. Second, when you finally place your order, be sure to write your mailing address and phone number correctly, or you might not receive your delivery on time.
M:So what do I do if I want to buy something
W:You just need to provide your name, mailing address, e mail address, phone number and bank card information. I can help you with that.
M:Oh, thank you! That is so nice of you.
(Text 7)
W:Why weren't you at the Spanish class last night, Jack Have you decided to give up
M:No. I came back late yesterday and found John asleep in his chair. He'd been writing a report all day long and he was too tired to go out again. So we gave the lesson a miss.
W:You've missed quite a lot of lessons recently, haven't you Are you losing interest
M:Yes, I'm afraid so. Neither I nor John has a gift for language. People just laugh at us when we attempt to speak Spanish. How did you and Jane pick it up so quickly and easily You've been in Spain for hardly a month.
W:It wasn't all that quick. We'd both studied the language before we came, and we needed a lot of review before we came back.
M:Anyway, all our friends here speak English very well, so we don't really need to learn Spanish.
(Text 8)
M:I am having trouble with my job. Five of my colleagues and I have been working on a project since last Wednesday.
W:Is the project too hard
M:No, it's not all that hard but no one is working together on it.
W:So your group is having a problem with teamwork.
M:Yes. We have to finish it before next Friday, only ten days from now.
W:Is there anyone in charge of the team
M:No. Everyone is just doing their own separate work.
W:If your group doesn't come together, then no one will know what has been done and what still needs to be done.
M:But how do I get them to work together
W:If your group does not have a leader, then you should step up and be one.
M:How do I do that
W:You should call everyone together for a meeting.
M:And then what should I do when I have them all together
W:Let them know that this project is important, and so is working as a team to get it done.
M:Thank you for the advice. I will call everybody now and tell them we are going to have a meeting in the morning.
(Text 9)
W:Hi there! What have you been up to lately
M:I have been looking for a university to apply to.
W:Really So have I!
M:Cool! What term will you apply for
W:For the fall semester. How about you
M:I'll apply for the spring semester. I need to work and earn some money in the next six months.
W:Yeah, college can be very expensive.
M:How are you paying for college
W:I am getting help from a bank.
M:That's cool. So have you started filling out any university applications
W:Yes, I have. The applications take a while!
M:They do, especially all those essays.
W:Yes, those are hard. I'm not really sure what to write about.
M:I'm glad I'm not applying until the spring, so I have more time to prepare.
W:Yeah, you're lucky you have more time. So do you plan to rent a room near the university you go to
M:Yes, I plan to rent a room near the university and find a roommate to share the cost, so I can save some money.
W:Oh, really My friend Jack wants to do that too. If you're in the same area, perhaps you could rent a place with him.
M:Oh, that's wonderful! Could I get his contact information from you
W:Sure. I'll give you his phone number right now.
M:Thanks!
(Text 10)
Future homes will have some really smart cooking tools. Microwave ovens and refrigerators will probably be combined, so that meals can be ready upon one's arrival home.
Future homes may also have refrigerators that can suggest menus based upon the food you have at home. In the home of the future, the refrigerator will probably also be able to take note of all food supplies in the home and inform you when you're running out, or even be programmed to contact the local supermarket to drop off the needed food supplies.
Future homes will also be very energy saving. Microsoft, Google and others are now working on applications to help you see and track which tools use the most electricity, helping you save electricity and thus your daily expenses.
There will most likely also be systems in place for saving and reusing wash water and bath water, which will probably have to be the main origin of future water, so that both plants and people can still have clean water in the future, when water supplies are low.

B
When I was in the third grade, we had a hunt at school. We gathered up chalk, pencils, stones, and so on, rapidly filling our checklists. It was a very close race.I was out of breath when I reached the clover (三叶草) patch in search of the last, most hard to find item:a four leaf clover.
I was pretty sure that I was going to win.I have always been able to find four leaf clovers. I just saw them.
I spent my childhood collecting and pressing four leaf clovers into books at my mother's house. I started with big cloth and leather bound books. When I ran out of romantically bound volumes, I began to put my treasures into anything I could find: fiction paperbacks and cookbooks. The same is true in my house today. Shake a book, and a papery treasure just might fall into your hand.
A few years ago, in Nova Scotia, my husband and I pulled off the road for a picnic. The ground was thick with clover. Some shoots had four, five, even six leaves. I lined them up on the picnic table to admire as my husband, never yet having found one four leaf clover, looked on in awe. To me, it was simple. The differences in their shapes popped out, breaking the pretty pattern of the conventional clover with their three perfect leaves.
Two summers back, while waiting for an airport shuttle in Munich, I found a tiny four leaf clover in a traffic circle and put it into my passport. On the way home, my husband and I were upgraded to business class. Friends attributed our good luck to the clover. I think, it's more likely that we were upgraded because a kind customer service officer took pity on us.
People disagree about whether the luck lies in the finding or in the possession of a four leaf clover. Some believe that the luck is lost if the four leaf clover is even shown to somebody else, while others think the luck doubles if it is given away.I believe that positivity is increased by sharing.I feel lucky to find the clovers so often, but I don't think they influence my life any more than it does to share anything a little special-that momentary closeness between you and a friend or a stranger, as you all lean in to wonder at a rare find.
24.Why can the author notice four leaf clovers so easily
A.Because she always has good luck.
B.Because she has a special gift for plants.
C.Because she practised a lot in her childhood.
D.Because she can tell the pattern differences.
To me,it was simple. The differences in their shapes popped out, breaking the pretty pattern of the conventional clover with their three perfect leaves.
25.How does the author deal with her four leaf clovers
A.She often gives them away.
B.She leaves them everywhere.
C.She treats them with special love.
D.She admires them with her husband.
26.How does the author understand luck and clovers
A.The closeness brought by clovers really counts.
B.Clovers will influence one's good luck a lot.
C.Good luck means finding or owning a clover.
D.Good luck may double if you give clovers away.
I don't think they influence my life any more than it does to share anything a little special — that momentary closeness between you and a friend or a stranger,as you all lean in to wonder at a rare find可以判断出,作者认为四叶草带来的亲密感才是重要的。
27.What may be the best title for the passage
A.Hunting Clovers
B.Sharing Clovers
C.Not just for Luck
D.Just for Luck

Britain's first zero carbon homes are being built — and they look like something from a science fiction movie.
There are 25 eco friendly homes currently being built in Southmoor, near Abingdon, Oxon.Buyers are able to have the final say on floor layouts, kitchens and bathrooms. One three bedroom home is on the market for £801, 000, with a custom build available to suit your own specification. These eco friendly houses are powered entirely by electricity from solar panels around the houses. They also have advanced ventilation (通风) systems, making sure that temperatures inside the building don't go beyond 25℃ for more than 10% of hours annually, as well as mini heat pumps to generate (产生) the heating and hot water on site. Part of the cooling design includes avoiding east or west facing windows, and window shading.
And they're in high demand. Ian Pritchett, of Ssassy Property, thinks the Government should do more to promote the construction of this type of housing.“Unfortunately, the Government relaxed the proposed 2016 zero carbon targets after being lobbied (游说) by house builders,”Ian explained.“At present, the main house building corporations control the land and only build at the rate they are sure will sell, keeping the UK's housing shortage so that the normal rules of ‘supply and demand' don't apply. When there is a shortage of housing, buyers have to purchase what is available rather than what they might want.”
In any sensible society, we would expect the planning system to actively encourage zero carbon houses, and to tough on anyone failing to deliver the necessary standard.Instead, we have a planning system that focuses on other aspects such as numbers of bedrooms, garden sizes, and parking places. These are important aspects, but they pale into insignificance compared to the catastrophic consequences of climate change.
28.What can a purchaser do before buying the type of housing

29.How do people react to the zero carbon homes
A.They like them.
B.They are uncaring.
C.They are skeptical.
D.They are demanding.
And they're in high demand可知,这种房子需求量很大,即人们很喜欢这类房子。
30.What do house building companies intend to do
A.Balance the “supply and demand” of houses.
B.Purchase more land to stop climate change.
C.Build more houses powered by the sun.
D.Make it more difficult to buy houses.
31.What's the author's attitude to the planning system
A.Satisfied. B.Disapproving.
C.Worried. D.Ambiguous.

Tired of standing in line Wait a bit longer, and you may never have to again.Everyone from Amazon to Silicon Valley start ups is trying to eliminate lines in retail (零售) stores.
Amazon has opened 24 of its Amazon Go stores, which use cameras and artificial intelligence to see what you've taken off shelves and charge you as you walk out. Some start ups are closely copying Amazon's approach to using AI powered cameras fixed in ceilings. But others are trying an entirely different way to skip the checkout:smart shopping carts. These companies have added cameras and sensors (传感器) to the carts, and are using AI to tell what you've placed in them.A built in scale weighs items, in case you have to pay by the pound for an item.Customers pay by using a credit card, or through an online payment system. When customers exit the store, a green light on the shopping cart indicates that their orders are complete, and they're charged.
The start ups behind the smart shopping carts, including Caper and Veeve, say it's much easier to add technology to the shopping cart than to an entire store.Amazon Go stores rely on hundreds of cameras in the ceiling. The shelves also include sensors to tell when an item is removed.Ahmed Beshry, co founder of Caper, believes the technology to run Amazon Go is too expensive to use in a large grocery store.Neither Caper nor Veeve has said how much their smart shopping carts will cost, making it difficult to compare the different formats.Shariq Siddiqui, CEO of Veeve, said he's finding increased interest from retailers given Amazon's steady expansion of Amazon Go since the first Amazon Go store opened in Seattle in 2018.“We're always happy when Amazon is doing something,” Siddiqui said.“They force retailers to get out of their old school thinking.”
Each time a business uses artificial intelligence and cameras, it raises questions about customer privacy and the impact on jobs.Beshry notes that the cameras in his smart shopping cart point down into the cart, so only customers' hands and part of their arms will be captured (拍摄) by cameras.
32.Which of the following best explains the underlined word “eliminate” in Paragraph 1
A.Cross. B.Remove.
C.Extend. D.Break.
33.What do we know about the smart shopping carts
A.They are linked to the cameras fixed in the ceilings.
B.They can tell customers where to find what they want.
C.They flash the green light when the order is cancelled.
D.They are able to recognize purchases placed in them.
34.What does Beshry think of the technology applied in Amazon Go stores
A.It is far more expensive than their smart shopping carts.
B.It may increase the cost of running a large grocery store greatly.
C.It has attracted many more retailers than before.
D.It is likely to help retailers to think differently.
35.What is the best title for the text
A.The New Technology Promotes Retail Sales
B.AI powered Cameras Are Used in Retail Stores
C.Smart Shopping Carts Will Let You Skip the Line
D.Artificial Intelligence Affects the Future Job Market

A few years ago,I worked in an international company that sold computer devices.I had to travel a lot all over the country as a part of my work.I remember that I was at a stage of my life where I only cared about how to make more money.
On one of my trips,I came out of the airport to take a bus to downtown,as usual. It was the same routine: get into the city, take the bus to the hotel, visit the customer, work late, take the bus back to the airport and fly back ...
That day,for some reasons,I decided to take the stairs down to a different exit, where I came across a beautiful garden I had never seen before.I waited there, enjoying the scenery. Finally the bus came.
Usually I always took the seat behind the driver. That day I sat down somewhere in the middle.A boy was seated next to me,carrying a lot of suitcases.Suddenly,he turned to me and gave me one of the most sincere smiles I had ever seen from a stranger.Warmly,he said,“Hi,the perfect day in the perfect place, huh?”
I remember thinking to myself — this must be one of those typical people who is young and naive and just thinks everything is beautiful and easy. Why was he annoying me when I just wanted to enjoy the bus ride But out of politeness,I replied,“Perfect! Did your parents pay for you to have some vacations on the beach?”“No,I'm not here for vacation, and I don't have parents,” he shook his head.“I'm here because I want to achieve my biggest dream.I'm on the way to the army school where my grandfather studied a long time ago.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;

“I lost my dad 10 years ago then my mom married again. My stepfather threw me out of the house.Since then,I've been living all over the country.I've met many people who were kind to me.And I've learnt a lot from life through these years,” he said softly. At that point I couldn't say a word.I felt the tears coming.Fortunately,he continued talking.
He smiled and told me that for 10 years,he had only one thing on his mind — to join the army school like his grandfather.“My grandfather was a general of the army.He left me this,” he said proudly. He showed me a golden knife and said this was the best memory of his childhood.“The only thing I know is that I will follow my biggest dream and every day I will be happy.” Soon, the bus reached his stop.He stood up,took all his suitcases, and said goodbye with a big smile. From that day on,I always try to do everything with my best smile on my face.

A.Negotiate its price.
B.Choose where to build it.
C.Decide how the inside of it looks.
D.Design its ventilation system.
29.How do people react to the zero carbon homes
A.They like them.
B.They are uncaring.
C.They are skeptical.
D.They are demanding.
