Ⅵ. 阅读理解
As we all know, summer is quite wonderful. It is often filled with outdoor parties and food tables. That means you’re spending more time standing and eating food. But if you want to enjoy your meal comfortably, you’d better find a seat first.
A new study in a magazine, Journal of Consumer Research, shows food will taste better when you’re sitting down. Lead author Dipayan Biswas, a professor(教授) and an expert at the University of South Florida, found that standing for even a few minutes could bring physical stress(压力). And people’s taste buds(味蕾) would stop working at once. The stop made people’s feelings very weak. Because of this, people have different ideas about the food, including the food temperature and the amount of the food. When people feel uncomfortable, even nice food doesn’t taste as delicious as it used to be. Biswas ever invited 350 people to try a kind of food to do the experiment. Those who were standing gave it worse feelings than those who were sitting in a chair. Besides, those who were standing didn’t notice the changes in the taste, for example, saltier.
The result is so useful that it will help many parents take care of their babies in trouble. They can ask their children to stand while they don’t like eating food. In the same way, parents can ask their children to stand and take the nasty(难吃的) medicine.
Besides trying food, the experiment also had another record—drinking coffee in different ways. The result showed that those standing drank less than those sitting. So if people stand, they will eat less food than usual. It means standing can also help people lose weight for a long time. Do you want to be thinner You can choose to stand!
