022届高考英语复习备考:迎接开学 主题练习
Task 1
Florence, a 17 year old senior student in high school, was busy composing(作曲) a song. She planned to release an album(唱片) with three other music lovers whom she met at the 2016 Campus Singing Competition. Edward, 18, is another one of the four students to make their own album. Actually, he was the one who came up with this fun idea in the first place.
“Everyone loves music. Being a good way to express our feelings and emotions, music can tell something about who we are and our experience of the world. We hope we can use our music to touch our peers(同龄人),” Edward said.
The album includes 15 songs across three themes—love, campus life, and youth, with pop and electronic music styles. The inspiration for the songs came from the students lives. Take the song Sea of Tranquility for example—it was written by Edward during a flight back to Chengdu after he took part in the China High School Biology Olympiad in summer. “The sky is clear and the ground looks small from the plane. This scene makes me feel calm and peaceful,” Edward explained.
The songs were created one by one with the efforts of the four writers. But a challenge soon appeared. The students found that they didn’t have enough money to produce the album. So to cut down their budget, they used an iPod and headphones to record the songs in an empty classroom on the weekend.
Apart from reducing their cost, they also tried to raise money through crowd funding on the Internet. They raised more than 7,000 dollars before the album was released in October. “Thanks to all the supporters, well keep working on our own music,” Edward said.

Task 2
We’ve all heard the phrase, “Work smarter, not harder.” When it comes to studying, there are some very specific ways to improve your effectiveness without adding loads of extra work.
Create a game plan. Before you begin your study session, create a game plan for exactly how you will study. Consider what you will study, how long you’ll spend on each subject and what study methods you will use.1Take at least 10 minutes before your study session to map out your game plan.
Outline your notes. Taking the time to boil your notes down to a standard outline can help you grasp the overall concepts you’re studying. You certainly can borrow or copy someone else’s notes, but you must work hard to put everything in your own words.2Many times, understanding the big picture is just as important as remembering all the individual facts. Outlining allows you to file individual facts under larger ideas.
Maintain balance. Balance can be difficult to maintain in school but its crucial for success.
3Seek to carry out a balanced life. Make sure to maintain a social life and develop hobbies outside of school. Stay in touch with your family and keep them informed of your school progress. Its certainly a challenge, but living in balance will keep you on the path to success.
4If you want to do well in school, you simply have to do it. But there are specific ways to study better. Make the most of your limited time.5
By following the methods above, you can raise the quality of your studying sessions without necessarily increasing the quantity.
A. Keep from spinning your wheels.
B. There’s no way to get around studying.
C. Write out your notes by hand during class.
D. If you don’t, you’ll fail to understand the larger concept.
E. This allows you to study the right materials at the right time.
F. The last thing you want to do is bury yourself in a mountain of books.
G. Don’t spend all your time studying or all your time hanging out with friends.

A mother was angry with her daughters school after the youngster was sent home because her trousers were believed to be too tight by teachers. Teachers at Brantley Academy, South Yorkshire, have been lining up pupils and measuring their trouser width with a ruler if they don’t look appropriate.
The school introduced a strict uniform policy just after Christmas and it has made some parents and pupils angry. On its website Brantley Academy states trousers must be at least 10 cm wide and says smart, tailored, plain, black school trousers of waist height to ankle length are to be worn. A spokesperson for the school said, “The academy has a strict uniform policy which parents and students are fully aware of and which is being properly carried out. All students are expected to adhere to the policy. Our uniform policy here at Cardinal Newman Catholic School is well established and we are simply reminding students of the policy as they come back to start a new term.”
Jane Ogden, 36, the mother of Ellie, 14, and Mollie Young, 12, who both study in the school, is one of the parents less than impressed with the rule. Her daughter Ellie was stopped from going to school between Monday and Wednesday last week for her trousers being too tight, even though, she claims, they were 13 cm wide. Ellie was not alone when she was given such orders—19 other girls were also being sent home on the same day.
Mrs. Ogden, who spent £72 on trousers for her seven children at the start of the year, said teachers were going too far. She said, “The school said that it was a changing problem and that they needed to show the children how to be respectful. I pride myself on my children giving me respect but I think we should respect them as well.” The school has thought these trousers suitable. Mrs. Ogden said, “Ellie is in year 10, so its an important GCSE(普通中等教育证书) year in her education and now she has to catch up with work.”
Paragraph 1:
She claimed that the school also had a major rule on other areas of the uniform and had banned makeup.
Paragraph 2:
A notice about the uniform changes was posted on the schools website.

Task 4
Paragraph 1:
She claimed that the school also had a major rule on other areas of the uniform and had banned makeup. Mrs. Ogden said,“The school tells the girls that they cant wear makeup but the teachers are wearing it. Its just one rule for one and another for another. Which is more important, school trousers or an education?” To stop her daughter being sent of school again, Mrs. Ogden has bought a new pair of trousers for Ellie, which are 14.5 cm in width. And soon she could go on studying in the school again.
Paragraph 2:
A notice about the uniform changes was posted on the schools website. There were an increasing number of students wearing tight fitting trousers. Tight fitting trousers were not acceptable and were not allowed in the school. The school even paid for new trousers for some pupils, saying that they did not want to cause difficulties for parents. However, what they did was considered a waste of money.
