口语化的习语从形式上可以为名词(短语)，如句①、句③；也可为动词(短语)，如句②、句④、句⑤；也可为形容词(短语)/副词(短语)，如句⑥、句⑦。
一、口语化的习语
英语的语言分为正式语与非正式语，口语化的习语属于非正式语，用在特定的语境中可以使句子更加形象生动。此类习语在英语学习中是比较难的一部分内容，掌握此类习语，首先要根据句子判断它是属于哪一类词汇，如名词(短语)、动词(短语)、形容词(短语)/副词(短语)等。其次要根据所在句子的语境，猜出它的含义。最后查词典进一步核实它的确切含义。
二、几类口语化的习语
1．名词(短语)
①I am a movie buff and I often go to the cinema at weekends. (fan)
②My folks can always give me good advice when I need it from them.(the members of your family, especially your parents)
③I have got a lot of stuff to do today so I have no time to play with you. (things)
④It rained cats and dogs that day and my shirt was wet through. (rain heavily)
2．动词(短语)
①When I feel under the weather, I just take a shower, which makes me feel less uncomfortable. (feel sick)
②I often go to the gym to let off steam. (release pressure)
③We have been tired recently so we need kick back and relax. (have a rest and relax)
④I wold rather hang out with my friends than watch TV at home. (play)
3．形容词(短语)/副词(短语)
①I hate the food in that cafeteria, which is totally gross. (very unpleasant)
②The old sayings are meaningful but corny as well. (old and uninteresting)
③That ’s corny, but I still have to repeat that you should be careful in your trip. (used too often to to be interesting)
④I got a chance to pay a visit to the theme park. Wow! That was really awesome.(enjoyable/very good)
