M: I wish I hadn’t thrown out that list of books.
W: I thought it might be useful, so I took it out of the trash can. Now it’s in my pocket.
M: Oh, that’s very kind of you. Can I have it back now?
W: Of course, here you are. By the way, how can you read so many books when you have to study all day long?

W: Thanks, it’s so sweet of you to say so. I just had a new hairstyle. I’m sorry to say this, but what on earth are you wearing? Your suit looks funny.
M: I wouldn’t say that. It looks fine on me.
W: Are you kidding? You are really behind the times.
M: Perhaps so. But I don’t care as long as my clothes are comfortable enough to wear. What’s the point of keeping in style?
W: I can’t believe it! Don’t you know people judge you by the clothes you wear? Your taste, personally, values?
M: I still prefer to be me.
W: You are so stubborn! By the way, I’m going to get some diet pills. I want to look slim.
M: I don’t think that is necessary. That’s not the way a woman should try to stay attractive. Maybe just make-up would be enough.
W: Why not? Come on, be open-minded!
M: Well, in that case all I can say is good luck!
Text 10
When I was at school, my ambition was to be a pilot in the air force. But my eyesight wasn’t good enough. So I had to give up that idea. I went to university and studied physics. I wanted to stay there and do research. But my father died at about that time. So I had to get a job and earn a living. I went for an interview with an engineering company. But on my way to the interview, I met a friend who was working for a travel agency. He offered me a job in Spain. And I had always liked Spain, so I took it. I worked in the travel agency for two years and then they wanted to send me to South America. But I had just gotten married, so I decided to stay in Spain. Then we had a baby and I wasn’t earning enough to support my family. So I started giving English lessons at a school I the evenings. Then the owner of the school offered me a full-time job as a teacher. So I resigned from the agency. Two years later, the owner of the school wanted to retire, so he asked me to take over as the director. And here I am.
