I ran to the bus stop ... but, I still missed the bus. It was eight thirty when I got to school. My teacher was angry and I felt bad all day. At four thirty, it was time to go home. I was waiting for the bus when ... all of a sudden ... it began to rain heavily.

Language points
1. My alarm didn't go off so I woke up late.
为不及物动词短语。
go off (闹钟)发出响声
I arrived late for school because my alarm didn’t go off.
wake up 醒来
wake up 在此处意为“醒来”，用作不及物动词短语，其后不能接宾语。
I often wake up at 5 in the morning.
【拓展延伸】wake up还可意为“叫醒”，此时，及物，当宾语是代词时，代词要放在wake和up中间。

begin v. 开始
begin作动词，同义词是start。常见用法有：
begin to to sth. = begin doing sth. 开始做某事
begin with 以······开始
beginning n. 开始 at the beginning of 在---开端

3. I called at seven and you didn't pick up.
pick up 接电话
与answer the phone同义。
She was cooking in the kitchen, so she didn't pick up the phone/answer the phone.
pick up的其他常见含义：
捡起；拾起 He picked up the litter and threw it in the dustbin.
搭载；驾车去接(某人) Dad, can you pick up my friends to my party
(偶然)得到；学会 She picked up Japanese when she tarvelled there last year.
4. I called again at eight and you didn't answer then either.
either adv. 也
either在此作副词，用于否定句句末。
Jenny won't go and Bill won't either.
【拓展延伸】
either还可作代词，意为“（两者中的）任何一个”。
You can take either of the toys ,but don’t forget to give the other to your brother..

while 在此作连词，意为当---时候，while引导的从句通常为进行时态，谓语动词必须是延续性动词。
While I was sleeping, the phone rang.
注意：当主句的动作正在进行，同时从句的动作也正在进行时，常用while引导从句。
