Michael loves scuba-diving. By 9, he was an extraordinary swimmer and a good listener in the pool.
Michael's first dive, 41 , was truly unforgettable. Instead of using a boat, the plan was to go down a ladder at the boat and drop into about 15 feet of water. Everything went 42 ( perfect). His instructor Polly led him to the nearby reef. While 43 (explore) the reef in 27 feet of water, Michael suddenly signaled a problem with his mask. Polly signaled back for him to clear it. He cleared it 44 then later signaled the problem again. His mask was completely flooded with water. Michael made a sign 45 he wanted to go up. Polly signaled, “No! Stay with me!”
According to Polly, even though scuba 46 (train) teaches new divers how to deal with flooded masks, many beginners panic the first time water fills their masks during an actual dive. Michael wasn't like many beginners, though. He didn't panic. He did 47 (exact) what he learned to do during his years. He stayed calm, 48 (think) it through, and followed Polly's 49 (instruct). Polly gradually led Michael to shallower water in an area. The group swam together back to the shore for a celebration of Michael's 50 (amaze) accomplishment.

41.However 42.Perfectly 43.Exploring 44.But 45.That 46.training
47.Exactly 48.Thought 49.instructions
50.amazing
句中的he wanted to go up解释名词sign,所以这是一个同位语从句。

He reported the case to the police and then sat there, lost and lonely in a strange city, thinking of the trouble troubles of getting all the paperwork organised again from a distant country while trying to settle down in a new one.
Late in the evening, the phone rang. It was a stranger. He was trying to pronounce my husband's name and was asking him a lot of questions. Then he said they had found a pile of papers in their trash can(垃圾桶)that had been left out on the footpath.

Have you ever been to the world's smallest bookstore
The World's Smallest Bookstore, whose official name is 'just these three words, sits quietly about 100 miles northeast of Toronto.
The bookstore is about 10 feet by 10 feet, so it is easy to imagine how tiny it really is. The bookstore is open 24 hours a day. Inside the bookstore are various books, especially literary books and classic authors' works. So if you are looking for something less popular, you may get a bit disappointed there.
Another special feature of this bookstore is that each book only costs three dollars. All the expenses are paid on the honor system, which means buyers should make a note of what they've bought and leave their money by themselves. So the tools of the trade in this bookstore are quite simple: pens, papers, light bulbs and a label-maker.
In order to catch passers-by's attention, the billboards(大幅广告牌) of the bookstore are several times bigger than the store itself. With these large eye-catching billboards, many people are willing to stop by and have a visit.

Now you have a list to end all lists!
Take a look at the following two examples from the list of “101 things not to do”:
Swim with Dolphins(海豚)
Swimming with dolphins is one of the world's most profitable tourist activities. However, not every dolphin will welcome having their busy, tiring day interrupted by tourists screaming and pushing around them in the water. Worse yet, when dolphins get too near to the boats loaded with tourists, they could get caught up in ropes and killed by propellers(螺旋桨).
Here's a little secret. Dolphins look like smiling at you, but actually they're just opening their mouths.

After queuing for hours, many tourists can remain in front of the painting only for 15 seconds at most.
If the mysterious lady in the picture knew her fate, she wouldn't just be smiling, she'd be laughing.
So, still long to see the Mona Lisa If you want to find out more about the list, read 101 Things Not to Do Before You Die. Visit www.not2dobeforeidr:e.co.uk and buy the book at a 20% discount.

How to see yourself objectively
Looking at ourselves objectively isn't easy. 16 Here are some tricks I use to get amore accurate picture of myself.
Look up, not down.lt9s always easy to make yourself look good by finding people even worse than you. Yes, we agree, you're not the worst person in the world. That's not the question. The question is whether you can get better. 17
Criticize yourself. 18 If they're right to be afraid, you need to start by working on that. People will feel more comfortable telling you the truth if you start by criticizing yourself and showing them that it's OK.
Find honest friends. It's important to find friends who you can trust to tell you the cruel truths about yourself. 19 Some people have had success in providing an anonymous(匿名的)form for friends to write down their objective opinions.
20 Since it's so difficult to find friends who will honestly criticize you, you need to listen extra carefully when they do. For
example, if one friend says the short story you wrote isn't very good, you might show it to some other friends and ask them what they think. Wow, they all think it's great! But the fact is that most of your friends are going to say it's great because they're your friends. By just taking their word for it, you end up ignoring the person who's actually being honest with you.
A.Take the outside view.
B.Listen to the criticism.
C.Be willing to believe the worst about yourself.
D.But it's necessary if we ever want to get better.
E.This is really hard because most people don't like telling cruel truths.
F.And to do that you need to look at the people who are even better than you.
G.The main reason people don't tell you what they really think of you is that they're afraid of your reaction.
【答案】16.D 17.F 18.G 19.E 20.B
根据前一句Looking at ourselves objectively isn't easy。
17.根据It's always easy to make yourself look good by finding people even worse than you. The question is whether you can get better.
People will feel more comfortable telling you the truth if you start by criticizing yourself, showing them that it's OK.
19.根据,It's important to find friends who you can trust to tell you the cruel truths about yourself可知要找一些诚实的朋友来告诉你残酷的事实是非常重要的。
Since it's so difficult to find friends who will honestly criticize you,you need to listen extra carefully when they do.

One possible version:
I still remember a day last term when I was in our school library. l lost my glasses, without which I can't see anything.
One rainy afternoon, I came to the school library, hoping to kill time. Unfortunately, I left my glasses on the desk. The moment I noticed it, I returned, only to find the library was closed. The next
day when I went back to the library, I found they were gone. I was very worried. My head teacher told me, to put up a notice outside the lost and found office. My classmates also helped me and some of them even put up a notice on their backs reading that whoever found and returned the, glasses would receive a special gift. A short while later, a teacher in the office called me and told me the good news. I eventually found my “two windows”. No one could tell how delighted I was at that time.
From this experience, I learned that on the one hand, I should be careful enough in future, and on the other hand, “Many hands make light. work.”
